Warren Waugh, Mayor Sefatia, Karen Hanson

Mayor Sefatia and her team, Chef Anthony Caturano and the Tonno staff, and Warren Waugh with Cidalia Schwartz and the Lyon-Waugh Auto Group team brought the community together for a fabulous lunch of the Mayor’s “sugo” versus the Chef’s “gravy.” The luncheon included steaming bowls of polenta and sausage with  gravy versus homemade pasta and meatballs dressed with  sugo. Both were wonderfully delicious! Tori Amos and Brian King provided lovely background music and Scottie Mac was the DJ.

Sadly, the day’s event took place without Anthony’s presence. His sister Christina Caturano Ryan passed away from breast cancer several days ago. She was only forty one and left two young children. Anthony was attending Christina’s funeral today. Despite her tragic death, Anthony insisted that the fundraiser take place. His team did a phenomenal job. The staff donated their time and all funds raised goes to the care of cancer patients. We wish to offer our most heartfelt condolences to Anthony.

Hernan, Aaron, and Neal
Tremendous shout out to the Tonno staff for donating their time today. They are: Chef Neal Maver, AAron Budak, Hernan Castro, Toni Armstrong, Frank DiMercurio, and Bryan Testaverde.

Salmon On The @WeberGrills Smokey Joe

Northeast BBQ

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say there is no easier to prepare and cook on a kettle food that scores more impress points than salmon.

Literally a half a chimney of charcoal on one side, you spray the salmon with olive oil, hit it with salt, pepper and whatever other seasonings you might like and you place it offset the coals til it hits 150 degrees internal temp.

So easy, so sensational.  For the brothers out there- you got a date with a special lady?  Hit ’em up with this recipe,  it’s a panty dropper for sure.

Delicious Breakfast at the New River View Dining Room at Cape Ann’s Marina Resort

Eight of us had an unbelievable breakfast at Cape Ann’s Marina Resort a couple of Sundays ago.  We enjoyed many outdoor Sunday brunches on the Bridge Deck this summer, but now that the weather has turned and winter is here, it was time to move inside.  The new River View dining room has undergone some really fabulous renovations and is a beautiful, bright, and sunny space.  I took a few photos of the new, long and spacious room (particularly the brand new waterfront bar) but I hesitate to post them yet as I know that some parts of the renovations were incomplete.  They were, at the time, waiting on a new bar top and new stools.  Regardless, I was totally impressed and will certainly be going back soon.  I look forward to sharing photos of the space soon as well.  Definitely check it out!

Check out our breakfast!  Yum!

When the moon hits your eye

We drove east from New York to Gloucester last night just as that big beautiful moon was rising.  I watched as the bright light guided us back. (Don’t worry, I wasn’t driving!) I guess it’s no surprise I had a hankering for comfort food Italian style upon our arrival back to town.  We went to Italianos and had chicken parmesan and antipasta.  I was very happy with the marinara which is pretty much what makes chicken parm a success or failure in my book.  Jim enjoyed his antipasta with an eggplant dressing.  It was a quiet night and the staff was in a festive mood.  Simple meal, simple pleasures.  Glowing moon,  bright Main Street decorations.  Win, win, win.  Glad to be back.  It’s going to be a great week in Glosta!

Special Hanukkah Commemoration

Cape Ann Community

Tuesday, December 12th at 5 pm

On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, Cape Ann’s Jewish community will remember the 10th anniversary of the devastating fire that destroyed our building, honor our Cape Ann neighbors who helped us rebuild, and look ahead to continued growth.

The event will begin at 5 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church (10 Church Street) where we held our Sabbath service the day after the fire. Then, we will parade down Middle Street to our new building with lights and music.

At the synagogue, we will light the Lobster Trap menorah and then move upstairs to our social hall for a brief program followed by refreshments and music.
