Tulips are rising!
Anyone else notice that the tulip bulbs are already rising? Last year I had a “significant” birthday so my husband and I with a couple of friends decided to celebrate it in the Netherlands and had an awesome adventure tooling around Amsterdam, the Tulip fields and Kuekenhof gardens. As a birthday gift my friends sent me 50 various tulip bulbs from the Keukenhof garden and I am now anxiously awaiting for them to bloom! So enjoy the rainy day and know that soon we will be gifted an early bloom of the bright beautiful colors of spring!
Product Review- X-Chef Heat Resistant Silicone BBQ Grilling Gloves
I was looking for a set of grill gloves to handle the Lodge Cast Iron Skillet. When opening up all the vents on the pit and getting that cast iron searing hot, the last thing you want to do is for…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOANIE ON THE PONY CREATOR
From Cape Ann Museum ~
Happy Birthday to CAM artist Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington (1876-1973)! The incredibly successful sculptor had a specialty in portraying animals, partially due to the influence of her eminent paleontologist father, Alpheus Hyatt. Her most well-known work on Cape Ann is the 3,500 lb bronze statue of Joan of Arc in front of Gloucester’s American Legion Post. The monument sits atop historic stones from France as a memorial to the Gloucester men who fought and died among French allies in World War I. Her model for Joan’s noble steed was a local horse named Frank that once pulled a fire wagon.

In Honor Of St Patrick’s Day- Corned Beef Brisket Point Guest Post From Bill O’Connor of www.northshorekid.com @kidns

Bill writes-
Hey Joe,
With Saint Patrick’s Day just around the corner, there are some great deals out there on brisket. $1.66/lb at Stop and Shop – point cut. It was packed in a completely saturated brine, and I should have soaked it in plain water to cut the saltiness. I didn’t figure this out until the first taste of the finished product.

Unpack. Rinse. Salt. Pepper. Let sit [covered] until it reaches room temp.

Low and slow is the way to go. Grill dome top temp was 300 – 350°, offset fire, bricks and hardwood charcoal mix, soaked mesquite chips, pan with water. I figure the dome top temp is 75-100° higher than offset area of grill.
Beef is pulled at ~165-170° internal temp.

Bark.

Yep.

Wrapped plastic over foil – try it. Rest for at least an hour.
Luckily I cooked something to eat because we were too…

LOVE BIRDS!
I’ve been keeping my eye on this pair of Mourning Doves and early this morning I found their nest! They saw me filming and photographing them and flew away. I hope they don’t abandon the nest as it would be wonderful to film the babies (squabs).
The male approaches the female with bobbing head and puffed chest, inviting her to a nesting site.
Female Mourning Doves build the nest.
The male dove carries the nest building material to the female.Â
A loose collection of twigs, pine cone needles, and grass, the nest is usually sited in a tree.
I hope I can find the nest again! Keeping my fingers crossed the pair will still be there when the rain lets up.
I love that you can see a nearby tree reflected in the dove’s eye. This is the above photo of the female Mourning Dove, super cropped.
Beautiful March Evening
When I took this photo before Kay Ellis’s Celebration of Life on Wednesday, my thought was Kay is smiling down on us all.

St. Josephs with Sista Felicia
Working with Sista Felicia on her St Joseph plans is always fun because she is so enthusiastic about what she is doing and has such a great eye for attention to detail. She wants it to be perfect and for anyone who has had the privilege of attending a Novena night or St Joseph’s Feast at her house knows she actually achieves perfection. So when Felicia had an idea for an image to be placed over the altar she, of course, knew exactly what she wanted, unfortunately the exact image she wanted was not large enough to be printed really big so we had to find an image that started off close enough and tweak it to be exactly what she wanted. Crowns and angels were added, flower garlands were created and colors were changed to fit in with her vision.

Sad reality of being a teacher these days.
Remember the days of fire drills in the schools? I wonder what teachers back in the day would think about the ALICE TRAINING (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) schools have to go through in case of possible threat of an active shooter? My daughter Abbey who is a high school teacher (not on Cape Ann) posted this photo the other day. She said they put tape on the door locks so you don’t have to look for your keys in case of a lock down. The handle itself is locked but its taped, so when the kids come and go it doesn’t lock behind them. If there were a lockdown all the teacher has to do is remove the tape and shut the door, that way they don’t have to play around with the keys. It is truly the sad reality of being a teacher these days. Next time parents are frazzled about what to do with their kids on a half day (professional day)…I hope they realize and are grateful for the training these teachers are going through to save their child.
Between my fear of heights and my fear of animans this never would have happened to me.
First of all I never would have been standing on something over two feet off the ground without some type of handle or something. Second of all animals want to kill and eat you. So, no, I’ll never have to worry about being in this type of situation. I’ll be in the cafe on the second floor overlooking all the suckers getting maimed by bulls while I drink a beer.
That’s how I roll sucka.
