We hear the coyotes at night in the nearby cemetery and surrounding wooded lots. Audio from the first post is like one that we hear. Check out this site to hear the 20 different sounds:

They sound like fox to me too. The second one could have been anything. A Fisher Cat attacking a few foxes would have made that noise.
The coywolfs have a much more long drawn out call. They sound interesting like they are communicating which they are. Go up to Halibut Point at midnight and listen. You can hear them calling. These sound like scratchy vinyl records played backwards. Fox and or Fisher Cats screwing around avoiding being eaten by the Fisher.
It’s called wildlife.

Isn’t that something. Our dog sat right up and paid attention. He’s now looking out the window. And cuddling in beside me.

Those are fox or coyote pups. We have a pack of coyotes that live in the woods on our street, and they sound very similar when excited. Wolves have a much deeper tone, and they don’t live in this area. Have you been to Wolf Hollow in Ipswich? Great place to learn about wolves, and the differences between them and coyotes.

They sound like coyotes to me. As the moon waxes they seem to get noisier. I saw Wendy Morgan’s comment and can’t help but wonder if it’s just Gloucester that wolves have mixed it up with coyotes. The wolves at least, seem more scrupulous in other areas.

Yeah, probably what we have now are coywolves. They are everywhere. Back in the day up Nawthern Maine, we called them coy dogs. But they were probably coywolves. The Eastern Coyote pared w a wolf.
