BREAKING NEWS: Tickets just went on sale for John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band @ Larcom 1/31

If you’ve been waiting for a multi-platinum recording artist (i.e., Rock Star) to come down the road to Beverly’s Larcom Theatre, wait no longer.  John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band (feat. Michael “Tunes” Antunes on sax) will ROCK the house on Saturday, January 31 with his #1 hits “On The Dark Side”, “C-I-T-Y”, “Tough All Over”, “Hearts on Fire” and one of my favorites “Tender Years.”

You know how you’re gonna feel in late January … like you need some high-energy music to break you out of your winter doldrums.  The thing is, these tickets won’t last that long.  So get them now (right here). They make perfect holiday gifts for all of your friends and family who will be feeling the same way in late January.  Here’s his hit, “On The Dark Side” from the Eddie and the Cruisers movie featuring “Tunes” on Sax.

Minglewood Shuffle with Host T Max was a big hit and a surprise from some Gloucester Firemen treating the crowd with some Christmas Carols!

TMax opened The Minglewood Shuffle then Lynn Taylor, Steve Caraway, Mosey Greams, Bradley Royds, Ric Saint Germain and The Tree House Charlatans (who sat in for Jake Pardee who couldn’t make this event). It was an excellent night of live music at Minglewood. Each performer brought something different to the stage, originals, new songs and a few covers and each one was on fire. Be sure to check out the next shuffle on the third Thursday of the month and that is on January 15th 2015.

I have been searching through all the restaurants but I can not find out if anyone is open on Christmas Eve.

Or are we left with Chinese take out?

Thanks so much

Hi Joey –

I wanted to be sure to share these fun pictures from the rehearsals for Welcome Yule! A Midwinter Celebration which will be presented on Sunday, December 21 at 3:30 PM at the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church.

Welcome Yule! is a family show filled with music, dance, songs and stories to drive the dark away. It features carols, wassailing songs, dancing, a mummers’ play and a Yule log procession. This festive, participatory celebration invites the audience to sing-a-long, laugh-a-long, even dance-a-long!

There is a $15 suggested donation for adults at the door; $10 for seniors and children five through sixteen; $40 family cap; age four and under free. This event will benefit the Meetinghouse Preservation Fund.

For more information visit Sing Through the Seasons on Facebook, or email folklifestudio@gmail.com.

Thanks!

Nichole’s “Family Picks of the Weekend” 12/20 and 12/21

This is the last weekend before Christmas so I’d like to remind you of a few events/attractions that you might want to squeeze in while you can.

Edaville Railroad Festival of Lights

Strawberry Banke Candlelight Stroll

Blink! Boston

My new picks for this week are as follows

#1   Holiday Delights!

Hopefully you’ve already read about this on GMG as it has been well covered!

The Gloucester Stage Youth Acting Workshops proudly presents Holiday Delights from December 19 through December 21 at Gloucester Stage Company, 267 East Main Street, Gloucester. Holiday Delights features a cast of over 30 young people ranging in age from 6 to 17, all students in Gloucester Stage Youth Acting Workshops.

A fantastic holiday event for all ages!  Read much more about it here!

#2  Rockport’s 69th Annual Christmas Nativity Pageant

Follow the torch-lit procession beginning at Dock Square on Saturday evening at 5:00 and celebrate holiday traditions while sharing the story of the nativity.

Discover more here

#3  Wenham Museum

I list this as a “great take” this weekend for two reasons.  On any given weekend from November to February, the Farm to Table by Train exhibit is worth seeing! My boys could watch the trains all day long.  This weekend, however, is extra special because one of my favorite children’s authors is also at the Wenham Museum signing books!  Meet Caldecott Award Winner, Chris Van Allsburg…maybe most famous this time of year for writing The Polar Express, but also the author of many other amazing books such as JumangiThe Adventures of Harris BurdickJust a Dream, and now The Misadventures of Sweetie Pie.  See all of his books here.

Meet Chris Van Allsburg

#4  Public Skate at Talbot Rink

On most Saturdays and Sundays Talbot Rink offers almost two hours of public skating…from 2:00-3:50.  A great chance to get active during the long cold winter months and see lots of familiar faces.  Skate rentals are available and the cost is nominal.

Check out the rink here and find their calendar at the bottom of the link’s page.

The little “Green Bomber” in the black helmet with Schrafft displayed proudly (usually) on his back is my littler one.  Watch out for him.
