TINA KETCHOPOLOS RESPONDS TO HER BEST GMG PR PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD
Posted on March 26, 2014 by Joey C 4 comments Edit Post
Dear Joey:
I want you to know how honored I am to be selected PR Person of the Year!
You know that GMG is my favorite blog – it is not only entertaining, but informative and educational! I appreciate the many health programs and screenings you post for us.
I feel like I have the best job in City. I work at a wonderful hospital with amazing employees. On Friday,
Cindy Cafasso Donaldson and her assistant, Deb Sacco, who I enjoy working with so much, told me to check GMG and that is when I saw the announcement. What a way to begin your day!
The co-workers I work with are incredible. We have excellent doctors, nurses and support staff.
They are skilled and professional – but in addition, they are compassionate and caring and this is equally
important. I feel honored to call these individuals my co-workers and friends. I wish I could name every department and
every employee as they deserve recognition as well. Addison Gilbert Hospital is striving because of their good care and work.
So it is always a pleasure to share with you programming that our staff are conducting.
My job also allows me to work with so many agencies and other non-profits within the City – I have met so many wonderful people at meetings and working on projects together – this is one of the highlights of my job.
My boss Gerald MacKillop is from Gloucester and of course I told him I was bringing you to my next review! I told him that when he called to congratulate me.
Please know that you made my day by your kindness and this wonderful honor; I am extremely grateful.
I have to go now, I have about four more notices to send you!
Gratefully and in friendship,
Tina

Ferrante Successfully Advocates for Inclusion of $1.5M for Cape Ann Cultural Assets
State Representative Ann-Margaret Ferrante (D-Gloucester) effectively advocated for the inclusion of $1.5 million for historic restoration projects on Cape Ann, including Gloucester City Hall, the historic fishing vessel Phyllis A. and the Gloucester Stage Company Theater. All three projects are important in maintaining the area’s culture, heritage and in stimulating the local tourism economy. The capital bond bill allocates funds to be used for capital facility repairs and improvements for the Commonwealth.
“Cape Ann has long been known for its storied history. I am pleased that my colleagues understand how valuable these assets are to Cape Ann and to the Commonwealth. In doing so, we grow the creative economy of Cape Ann and maintain our status as an historic and cultural leader. Every dollar invested in tourism yields seven dollars in economic development; not only is the passing of the capital bond bill great for the arts and culture of Cape Ann, but it is also a great economic driver for our community.”
Representative Ferrante successfully lobbied her colleagues in the House of Representatives to include the historic restoration money in the final conference committee version of the bill. The Conference Committee bill passed the House on July 26 on a voice vote. The bill now moves to the Senate and the Governor for final approval.

American realist painter Edward Hopper is known to have painted in Gloucester on five separate occasions during the summer months in the years 1912, 1923, 1924, 1926 and 1928. His earliest visit in 1912 was made in the company of fellow artist Leon Kroll. During his second visit to Cape Ann in 1923, Hopper courted the young artist Josephine Nivison. He also began working in watercolor, capturing the local landscape and architecture in loosely rendered, light filled paintings. In 1924, Hopper and Nivison who were newly married returned to Gloucester on an extended honeymoon and continued to explore the area by foot and streetcar. During his final two visits to the area, in 1926 and 1928, Hopper produced some of his finest paintings. This special walking tour will explore the neighborhood surrounding the Museum, which includes many of the Gloucester houses immortalized by Hopper’s paintings.

Cape Ann in August: A Festival of Good Times
Peter Webber From The Cape Ann Chamber Of Commerce Submits This Fantastic Festival Calendar For August On Cape Ann
Cape Ann in August: A Festival of Good Times
August is truly Festivals Month on Cape Ann. While great events and music, art and community festivals take place throughout the year on Cape Ann, the month of August is so packed with festivals and special events that it can truly be described as Cape Ann’s Festivals Month! Here are some of the featured events and activities:
August 2, 2014
Festival by the Sea, Manchester-by-the-Sea, 10 am to 8 pm
On Saturday, August 2nd, Manchester’s celebration of local art, music and food, Festival by the Sea, returns to downtown. The popular annual event will feature over 75 artists ranging from painters to jewelers and artisans, and it will stretch from Town Hall Common throughout town into Masconomo Park.
In the park, visitors will find not only art, but a variety of foods provided by local restaurants and food trucks as well as a beer garden featuring Cape Ann Brewing’s signature ale, Fisherman’s Brew.
On the Masconomo Park bandstand, live music will extend throughout the day featuring many Cape Ann favorites like Joe Wilkins, Bradley Royds and Allen and Dylan Estes. The all-day event will culminate with a 6 pm headlining performance by Vermont native and current New York City musician, Caitlin Canty.
Described by Urban H2O Music Director, Mark Miller as “clear eyed, clear voiced and singing sweetly from her soul, (Canty) captivates an audience.” Canty’s early summer performance at Cambridge’s ubiquitous Club Passim sold out days before the show.
Festival co-chair and music director, Chris Langathianos, said, “I have been following Caitlin for a while now, so I am thrilled that she accepted our offer to headline our local celebration of the arts. She will be coming directly from performing at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival which draws as many as 15,000 attendees, so we’re going to see a special talent right in our own backyard.”
Festival by the Sea begins at 10 am and continues on into the evening with the concert in the park. In the event of inclement weather, the rain date will be the following day, Sunday, August 3rd. For more information, follow Festival by the Sea on Facebook.
The event is free and there will be ample parking and a complimentary shuttle to and from satellite parking areas. Mark your calendar and pack your blanket for a day of great music, inspired artistry and delicious, locally grown foods.
