Since the April 15, 2013 tragedy Rick and I have wanted to go and my our respect. On Sunday, April 30, 2013 we decided to go down to Boylston Street. The street was very busy with people also paying their respect and eating and shopping. Our emotions were very strong, seeing teddy bears, flowers, beautiful poems, shrine, shoes and hats. Many tears were rolling down my cheeks as well as most visitors. Kindness and compassion will overcome the evil.

beautiful Donna.. I was there on Saturday, and was very moved by the crowds of people coming in to pay their respects. Beautiful and moving. What i found so hard to process were the throngs of shoppers going about their business, though understandable, and mostly some people who were having their pictures taken at the bomb sites, smiling, as though just another tourist spot. those people were few.

Thank you Gayle: the crowds were so respectable, and the fact that people brought their children was so moving.

Thank you for sharing, Donna. I have been wanting to go there to show my respect, too, but haven’t been able to so far. I have a few connections to people seriously injured and I can’t stop thinking about them and their families. A co-worker and his wife were badly injured, also two good friends of my brother’s have each had a leg amputated and face a long journey to recovery. Their spirits and attitude are all amazing and seeing them give press conferences or being interviewed is so inspirational.

Yes, very true, I believe that.

Flowers, ribbons et al are great gestures, I am confident they support the victims emotionally. But if we want to prevent this from happening again, we need to change how we manage immigration from countries known to ferment anti-western sentiment.
