News from the Gloucester HarborWalk. For readers who haven’t heard, the Gloucester HarborWalk is a free, self guided path downtown for residents, employees of surrounding businesses, and visitors. The build out began this year. There are many elements happening all at once. The blooms and landscaping are already growing in.
The ramp at I4C2 is well under way and part of making the Gloucester HarborWalK 
accessible for all 
Some of the Story Moment markers have been installed. Some are maps. You might also see some of the Story Moments or maps wrapped, because they need to “cure” or set for 24 hours before they’re securely installed. Here’s architect Chris Muskopf from Cambridge Seven Associates with Sarah Garcia and Mike Hale and others up by the Fitz Hugh Lane House today. Also see pictures of Sean and Kevin from Mystic working on the installation of one Story Moment to a granite post; and an art lesson nearby. Sean and Kevin showed us an example of one of the relief icons that can be traced and collected from each Story Moment. The Story Moments also have QR codes to scan. The QRs are not “live”…yet! Keep checking for yourself the progress as the HarborWalk continues to build out.

It may be summer, but things are not slowing down at the Gloucester Writers Center. The summer kicked off with the Life is the Poem party, celebrating Vincent Ferrini’s birthday. At the party it was announced that a book would be published next spring containing poems that Ferrini wrote to his friends and colleagues on Cape Ann. If you have a poem you would like to share, send a copy to the Gloucester Writers Center at 126 East Main Street in Gloucester.
The Finish Line Writers Group and the Center also hosted bestselling author Brunonia Barry who talked about her transition from self publishing all the way to the New York Times bestseller list. Ms. Barry, who is from Salem, is the author of "The Lace Reader" and "The Map of True Places." A big thank you to Ms. Barry for her informative and entertaining talk, and for answering dozens of questions about the self-publishing.

Lemonade Stand Today To Benefit The Cardone Family- Fire Victims

This is Brieana, I work at Seacoast on Atlantic Shores I take care of your Dad, was wondering if you could do me a favor and advertise on Good Morning Gloucester tonight, that my 6 year old daughter Bailee Militello will be having a lemonade stand July 11th from 2:30-4:30 p.m. to raise money for the Cardone family who lost alot in the fire on Ashland Place , they have kids that lost alot of clothes and toys, so my daughter wants to raise money to help the kids, the lemonade stand will be in front of my house 29 East Main Street, just a good old fashion lemonade stand and I’m sure I’ll do all the running back in forth refilling pitchers while she looks cute and sells, Thank you!!

You ever run into someone in the corporate or country club world and they give you the-
How are yeeeew? Or Thank Yeeew. If you get the corporate yeeew thrown in there you can rest assured that the person delivering the yeeew has zero and I mean zero care about your reply. It is because they are required to speak to you for tehir job and they are trained mentally to talk in some weird way.
The same person you run into on a personal level greets you with “hey how are ‘ya.” And you know what? They probably give at least a little bit of a real care about how things are going for you.
But if you run into that sideways handshake and the “How are yeeeew?” you may as well get a swift kick in the nuts because that’s about as disingenuous as it gets. I’d rather the person come out with “Listen you jabroni, you’re keeping me from checking out the latest post on Good Morning Gloucester so can we just forgo the pleasantries and let me take care of whatever menial bullshit you’ve got for me so we can both get on with our lives?”
Much better.
Just sayin.

Gloucester has been featured on Chronicle once again and this time they focus on tourism, art, fishing & Fiesta — mostly the greasy pole. And while the show sheds a fairly good light on Gloucester, it misses one of the our City’s main attractions — Gloucester’s burgeoning music scene (see tonight’s live music lineup here).
That’s why we’re so lucky to have lured T Max here — publisher of The Noise (New England’s longest running music magazine). The new issue features stories about music on Cape Ann as well as music on that shark-infested cape named after a fish. (On the web, the stories are after the features on Brad Byrd from Cape Ann and The Parkington Sisters from Cape Cod).
I was going to thank T Max for the honor of being chosen to write the story about Cape Ann (read it here), but instead I’ll complain that what I had feared has come to pass: good musicians whom I neglected to mention are asking me why I left them out. There’s no good answer to that question. My only excuse is that with limited space and time to write I simply couldn’t include everyone who’s good. Lame, isn’t it. Sorry.
Perhaps the next Chronicle story on Gloucester will include at least one segment on Gloucester’s music. I keep that hope alive given that they referred to Fiesta as Gloucester’s own Mardi Gras, which is, of course, a musical metaphor.

This concert is a benefit for Maritime Gloucester and the North Shore Jazz Project.
Last year Lamine and his band had everyone dancing on the docks. The North Shore Jazz Project mission is to create an environment on the North Shore where music education, performance and appreciation can flourish and Gloucester Maritime needs no introduction. Lamine Toure comes from a family of Griot’s in Senegal. He teaches African drumming at MIT in Cambridge, Ma. Don’t miss the waterfront dance party of the season.

Anyone that went on our cruise last year knows it was one of the best nights of the summer. The tickets are $35 and include Two Old Cuban Cigar Co cigars which are valued around $10 each, Folly Cove Rum drinks from Ryan and Wood AND a sail aboard the Thomas E Lannon. All together it’s like a $85 value that you get for only $35. but you know what? Even if it was $85 I bet everyone that went last year would buy tickets again because it was THAT great a night.

Café Bischo is a little restaurant at 51 Main Street. Yesterday I had supper there with a friend, and it was great as always! We ate at a table outside on the sidewalk, enjoying the sunny summer evening.
I had their “Mediterranean Vegetable Soup”:
It was delicious, and was accompanied by heated, buttered, fresh bread, which was perfect for dipping in the tomato-based broth.
The sun shone bright through my glass of water:
To be honest, all I can vouch for from personal experience is their soup. That’s the only thing I’ve ever eaten at this venue (and at several other restaurants), because I am a huge soup fan, and their soup is always good! But the people with whom I have eaten there have also enjoyed their victuals, whether soup or otherwise. Plus, I have seen a steady flow of people buying their ice cream or frozen yogurt, so that must be good too!
Actually, I can also vouch for their friendly customer service. So, if while on or near Main Street, you get a hankering for a bite to eat, hot or cold, you should give Café Bishco a try!
The Friends of Gloucester Dog Park will be staffing an information table at the Visitor’s Center at Stage Fort Park on alternate Thursdays from 3-5:30pm this summer, starting July 12. They will have lots of activities and dog park signature merchandise for sale. There will be raffles complements of Animal Krackers, Essex Bird Shop and Pet Supply and Petco.
First in the lineup of great attractions on July 12th David Feldman of Skillful Hand, a certified dog massage therapist, will be giving FREE dog massages and talking to pet owners from 3pm-4:30pm. If you are heading to the Farmer’s Market, come on over! (David will be back for a return visit on July 26, so mark your calendars now!)
You are also encouraged to walk around the dog park and let your best friend ‘sniff’ out the site. It’s a great opportunity to get an up close and personal glimpse into the entire process behind the makings of Cape Ann’s first dog park. Come see for yourself what the excitement is all about.
