Charlie Farren & Jon Butcher have teamed up and collaborated as FBI
Farren/Butcher Inc.
They will be performing together as Charlie Farren & Jon Butcher – two distinct talents, who have both led world renown groups and both have performed throughout the country as well-recognized leaders of bands that have gained them both countless reviews across the country and beyond as bandleaders, and writers of popular music that has maintained its place in New England music history for countless years, through their well-known bands, and have been mainstays in local music i.e. Jon Butcher Axis and through various groups, that have gone under different names, but still remained under the direction of Charlie Farren through several changes,from his bands Balloon who played at the Channel,The Jamm Band, both of which featured several luminary people in rock history such as James Montgomery, Roger Earl of Foghat & others in local rock history.He toured with Joe Perry Project and also with his own group Farrenheit, which featured bassist David Hull who co wrote songs together that became rock classics,such as East Coast-West Coast and Political Vertigo and Listen to the Rock, and I,ve Got the Rock and Rolls again- they spent years together that including a new band that featured his sister Robin and ex Berlin Airlift bassist Philip Bynoe-former Til Tuesday guitarist Robert Holmes as second lead guitarist and heavy touring brought them to open shows With Aerosmith, Brad Delp & Boston,and several other groups.
They have played over the years as Farren with New England, the Fools, Aimee Mann, and has now started a new collaboration with a veteran rocker who will be joining forces to create a new sound. Both have performed in front of thousands all across the country and they bring their experience as rockers to the Cruiseport Terminal in Gloucester this Friday Dec 10 @ 8 p.m.to help the Vernal Pond Group – help the environmental issues that now have become serious issues.
Proceeds will be donated to their continuance of resources that are on Cape Ann.

Gloucester / Cape Ann Chapter of Learn to Cope Meets Weekly
Hi Joey –
I am hoping you can post the attached flyer for the Gloucester / Cape Ann Chapter of Learn to Cope. Learn to Cope is confidential peer led support group for family members struggling with a loved one’s addiction to opiates (oxycontin, heroin, percocet, vicodin etc.) and/or other drugs. It’s a very special group and a tremendous community resource. Members get support and learn practical life saving skills such as how to recognize and respond to an overdose, how to get trained in nasal Narcan and use it if needed to reverse an overdose, how to navigate the treatment system etc. Our hope is that more people who are struggling with a loved one’s addiction realize they are not alone, and that there is hope. The group meets Tuesday evenings at 7pm in the lower level of the Gloucester Family Health Center, 302 Washington St. Brought to you by the Healthy Gloucester Collaborative.

Congratulations To Local Music Acts Taking Home Boston Music Awards Honors!!!

I don’t know if this is of interest to you but thought I’d try.
George Hall, a Gloucester resident and guitar-playing fixture at the Rhumbline, is the lead guitarist for Kingsley Flood. The band just performed at the Boston Music Awards last night and took home the Boston Music Award for "Best New Artist of the Year". I don’t know if you’ve caught them live but they play at the Rhumbline frequently, when they’re not travelling up and down the east coast. In fact, the Rhumbline holds a special place in their heart…they love the crowd there. Their CD "Dust Windows" topped the Amazon charts for quite some time as well. Check them out!
Also, Jen D’Angora of Jenny Dee and the Deelinquents won "Best Female Vocalist of the Year." Tony Goddess of Gloucester is a guitarist with the band and his wife Sam Goddess is a back-up vocalist.
The awards were held at the Liberty Hotel in Boston and it was a sold-out event.
All around, a good night for recognizing some home-grown talent.

Gloucester resident Kendra McGrath granted Medical Device patent
Gloucester resident granted Medical Device patent
Kendra McGrath of Little River, along with her team in the Northeastern University Capstone Program for the Mechanical Engineering class of 2005, received a patent November 23, 2010 for the Hydrocephalus shunt system quick connector assembly, a device that can be used in a prevalent form of brain surgery. “The connector assembly can be operated quickly, minimizing the time for the surgical procedure and the opportunity for infection.”, says http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7837646.html.
The Northeastern Team was working under the supervision of Johnson & Johnson sponsorship. The Capstone team cited in the patent are Eidinger, Bruce (Sutton, MA, US), Mcgrath, Kendra (Gloucester, MA, US), Rigberg, Joshua (New York, NY, US), Callaway, Peter (Laguna Beach, CA, US), Macomber, Mark (Norton, MA, US).

Can Anyone Identify This Bird?
After being down this dock my whole life it never ceases to amaze me that there continues to be first time sightings of birds or sealife as often as the occur.
I spotted this bird which at first looked like a different type of seagull but it went under water in search of food and I haven’t seen seagulls go underwater like a loon or a a cormorant.
It’s wings were outlined with a thick black band around pure white centers. It had a black bill and orange/redish feet. The feet looked like they were positioned toward the very rear end of the bird as well.
