I’ve beat myself up for years considering getting a tattoo. For years what held me back was the lack of something that I really really wanted to put on myself permanently. Now that years have gone by and I’ve been in the lobster business for so long I’ve been wanting to get a lobster tattoo.
I have the exact design that I want and I know who I would go to -Molly at Witch City Ink but a couple of things have prevented me from doing so. One, I don’t know exactly where I’d put it. You see I have skinny forearms, and not only are they skinny but they are somewhat hairy. Gross, right? Who would want to look at a tattoo with hair growing out of it?
Anyway the design that I want features a traditional lobster from the overhead perspective. The one with the claws right out in front of it in a straight line. then I would like a scroll banner with Madeline written on one above the lobster and Eloise on a scroll banner below.

Well enough about me. Do you have a tattoo? Have you ever had any desire to get one but chickened out? If you did get one what would it be?

I don’t know what I would get or where I would put it.I have seen a lot of nice tats on this blog alone nevermind everywhere else I go(AND JUST FOR THE RECORD I’M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE ONES WITH “SHARON” ON THEM).I want one but I’m just not sure.

I like tats, on other people. In college I was wondering if I wanted to go to med school. A stint working in a nursing home cured me of that. The idea of all these women who have tattoos on their lower back today in a nursing home 60 years from now all wrinkly seems kind of gross.
They are forever.
But your lobster is pretty cool. Get a whole bunch of them down your leg. It will look like you are infested.

I got my first tattoo for my 40th birthday, have gotten three since, I love the lobster you picked…..would like to use it myself. Please post where you put it!!! (within reason) I think forearm is most classic and visable – go for it, the hair won’t be as noticable when the bug is in place!

Hello Joey,
I am excited to hear you are taking the plunge. Molly does some great work. I am professional female and yes, I am heavily tattooed. I have been collecting tattoos for the past 14 years and they look just as great as the ones I have gotten my the same artist 11 years later. I believe tattoos are an important form of personal expression. Personally, My work is done at Good MoJo in Beverly by Mulysa Mayhem.

If Joey gets one on his head, he won’t have to worry about hair growing thru it.

I have a few. Each one is a reminder of something significant for me. My sister Kim took me on my 18th birthday to get my first one, and my most recent one was after surviving what Hurricane Katrina did to my life, I got a compass and a fleur de lis while laying on my kitchen floor in our home in New Orleans. My husband is pretty heavily tattooed…be careful, they can become addictive! Go for it, if you want, and don’t regret your decision either way.

KateL–it took me reading 1/2 way through your post to realize who wrote it! For the record…no tats on me and none in my future–and the only thing I would ever even remotely consider getting would be, of course, a LILY!

Oh my gosh. I was going on 40. Now I am going on 62. Never did anything close to “wild”,which back then in 1988 hardly any moms ,especially farm moms had tatoos. I went and had a Daisy put on my chest. I was horrified. My husband was really horriifed. My mom and dad came home from wintering in Fla. and my mom had let her hair grow out to grey. My dad said “Wait till you see your moms hair.” I said “Wait till you see what I did Pop.” So I showed him,and he said,”Whats next, chains and motorcycles?” No one but my family has ever seen my daisy. I told our local funeral director,by the time he sees it,it will be very withered. Thanks for letting me remember.

I have a tattoo of the lovely Rosa Rugosa. Got it in college on a whim, and they did a bad job. I would love to get it touched up. Any great tattoo places around here?

My husband and I gave them to each other as wedding gifts on our honeymoon in Fr. Polynesia. The artist was 4th generation and had designs handed down from the past 100+ years. It hurt like hell but I love it. It’s a turtle on my rt shoulder and stands for prosperity. Did I mention we were in our late 40s and it was our first and last?

Well Joey, I have 4. Three Harley ones & my anchor with the roses & vine going around it. I will get one more & it will be a lobster. Maybe I’ll get another one also of a lobstertboat. Don’t know. But the lobsta is a sure thing. Actually was suppose to get it a couple of years ago. I like your idea with the girls name on there. Awesome. If I get a lobsterboat I guess it will have to be a red one…lol…

As far as wrinkled tattoo’s, it depends where you put them. I won’t tell you how old I am but 50 has come & gone. When Joey took the picture of me holding the GMG sticker I was very overweight. Thyroid problems. Now I’ve lost 25 pounds & exercising & everyone of my tats are not sagging. Not now or when I was overweight. So it all depends.
