Chickity Check It!- Sharon Lowe’s New Family Activity Blog

“Flapping like a Haddock is a new blog for Cape Ann families. If you’re looking for activities and ideas to keep your child from “flapping like a haddock” this winter (and beyond), you’ll probably find it here. As a preschool teacher/director/parent/grandparent, I know how hard it can be staying sane when the colder weather hits. We can share our experiences, vent, and brainstorm. We also can keep up to date on the happenings on the Cape . Share this blog with other parents and caregivers, and we’ll have some fun!”

Things To Do- Lobster Trap Tree Lighting Saturday Dec 13th

From Jeff Worthley-

On Saturday, December 13th, at 4 pm the community will gather to light the Lobster Trap Tree at the Gloucester Police Station Plaza (Main Street).

This year’s tree, believed to be the world’s largest Lobster Trap Tree consists of over 300 traps which have been loaned by a half dozen Gloucester lobstermen.

The tree will be adorned with over 50 buoys, donated by Winchester Fishing, which will be painted by children at Art Haven on Friday afternoon and Saturday during the day.

The tree lighting ceremony will feature music provided by DJ Scotti Mac, caroling, Santa’s arrival and the lighting of the tree.

The 300 traps were moved by Tally’s Trucking Service and Earth Works where a half dozen volunteers have labored for the past two weeks building the tree and stringing the lights

This year marks the ninth time the Lobster Trap Tree has been built and stands taller than ever.

This year’s celebration is sponsored by BankGloucester, which is opening their renovated building to the public on the same day.

Coveted Yarns On East Main Street

When you drive by Coveted Yarn at night the bright colors light up the windows of it’s store at 121 East Main Street (next to Smoking Jim’s).  Here’s Robert stocking shelves.  You can see one of the couches where you can sit and knit and chat with other knitters.

Ridiculous Discounts on the clearance racks at Coveted Yarn.  There was some yarn that was $9 per skein that was marked down to $3 and if you bought a whole bunch they further were reduced 20% on top of that.  Well worth it for you to checkout if you are a knitter, or know a knitter that might like a gift certificate for the holidays!

Coveted Yarn Baby Hat Contest

At Coveted Yarn they have a fantastic contest in which everyone is a winner.  For every baby hat knitted and donated Coveted Yarn places an entry in for a drawing for a $50 gift certificate.  The baby hats then get donated to children wards at hospitals.  That’s a great idea in my book.  For all you knitters or people that want to learn how, swing by their shop on East Main Street next to Smoking Jim’s from 10-12 on Saturdays for free knitting lessons.
