Fish Folding, and Candles in St. Sulpice in Paris

Hope to see you today for fish folding at The Hive! (Buoy painting is going on at Art Haven, so we’re keeping the paper and the paint separate.)  The origami tree is practically ready! David, Mary Ann, and I added more layers last night to get it to a good height. We’d go further but we ran out of the right kind of paper…

So, now it’s fish time! Although we’re recommending the “twist fish” by Gay Merrill Gross because it’s quick and easy, any origami fish folded from one uncut piece of paper will be accepted.

I am working little by little through my photos from vacation in France… This one is appropriate for today, Dec. 8, on which Catholics celebrate a Marian feast day, the Immaculate Conception.

A beautiful church!

Another weird photo from France

The person underneath looks like he’s pointing at the horses and saying, “What’s up with these guys? Did I miss a joke or something?”

Memories of Paris

More scrumptiousness from my recent vacation in Paris… the Eiffel Tower at night.

No tripod, zero retouching. Have I mentioned how much I love this camera?

“What are you lookin’ at?”

Another Parisian gargoyle photo for Halloween…

Looks like he’s shouting at the tourists: “Hey, what are you lookin’ at?”

My best gargoyle photo from this vacation will be up tomorrow on Halloween itself.

Gargoyles enjoying the view?

Another gargoyle photo from my vacation, in the spirit of Halloween.

It looks like they’re watching a football game or something. These are on Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

Unhappy gargoyle

Is he nauseated, or just bored?  I shot this photo at the Abbey of Solesmes in France, during my recent vacation.

Parisian Light

I have lots of photos to bring back to Gloucester… Around 700 so far, I think. It will take me a while to get them all adjusted and processed, but here’s another sample, from inside the church of St. Sulpice.

Greetings from France

Greetings from France!

This is the famous Abbey of Solesmes, in the area of Sarthe, west of Paris. I was here for two days, soaking in their amazing Gregorian Chant (and taking photos of the monastery buildings and gardens), before heading off to Paris. More photos of France (with the GMG logo!) will be forthcoming…

Photos from a Gloucester photographer

I’ve been mostly staying indoors for over a week to get over a cold, so I don’t have many new photos of Gloucester itself ready to post. So, these are not photos of Gloucester, but they are still relevant because they are photos by a Gloucester photographer – i.e., a few of photos from my vacation in New York.

No, I didn’t eat all of it but I gave it my best.  Here are the food photos I took along the way.

Getting My Bhudda On At Red Rock Canyon With The Rabbit

20120210-073939.jpg

You would think I might have been relaxed by looking at the first picture but due to my extreme fear of heights my heart was beating about a million beats per second.

Take a good look at that mellon on the Rabbit would you?  It’s like Elvis went gay and had sex with bhudda and somehow this was the offspring that resulted.  And not the young Elvis that all the young girls wet their panties over, the coked out peanut butter twinkie eating Elvis just before he croaked on the crapper.

I love you man.

Representing in Orlando, FL

I just got back from vacation in Florida. I meant to bring my GMG logo sticker with me to take a photo “representing”, but sure enough, I couldn’t find it when I packed my bags… so I got this photo at Universal Studios, Orlando, with the logo on my cell phone screen instead.

Eating in Playa del Carmen

20120110-064101.jpg

At the risk of jinxing us I have to say one of the most pleasant surprises about Playa del Carmen has been the dining experiences.

At every place we’ve eaten be it fancy dinner, casual lunch or breakfast everything has been super fresh and the service SUPERB!

I’d point out a few as highlights but honestly they’ve ALL been highlights!

Lateral for dinner grouper with a a porcini mushroom cream sauce over it topped with lyonnaise potatoes. The juice bar 100% Natural, the place in this picture where they serve your food on your own personal mini-habachi, Sensei Beach Club, Thai dish. Emphasis everywhere on freshness.

Surfing at Good Harbor

I’ve been taking a break from posting recently because I was on my Gloucester vacation and totally took advantage of it by disconnecting myself from the world. It was wonderful!

Here are some surf pics. I still need a lot of practice but getting the hang of it. Look how beautiful that water is!

Story Land 2010

Well I had one day off in June and two in July- the Fourth and yesterday, a family day up at Story Land.  As soon as I got home from work on Saturday night we packed up the girls and told them we were going on a “mystery ride”.  They had no idea where we were going as the plan was to get them to sleep in the car on the ride up (so much for plans).

We got on the road around 6:30PM and as tired as the girls were they were chatterboxes the whole ride up to New Hampshire.  Eloise finally fell asleep about an hour and a half into the ride but Madeline (the stubborn one) kept chattering away much to the chagrin of the Mrs who can only handle so many “Mommy-Mommy-Mommys” in her ear.  As is usual when we plan to have the girls nap on a long ride somewhere they did what they normally do and finally fall asleep minutes away from our destination.

Anyway we got to the School House Motel. $125 a night for a Saturday night-two beds- very clean-nothing fancy-great location.  I’d stay here again if it were only to sleep like we planned.

Madeline (the stubborn one) woke up at 4AM which of course meant we all woke up at 4AM.  There was a fridge and we had a stocked cooler so we ate some apple slices and fiddled around reading cheap magazines and the girls watched a few cartoons.

Got the girls ready and headed out for a nice breakfast right up the street from the motel at a breakfast joint called Peaches- again nothing fancy but good friendly service and decent food.

I hadn’t been to North Conway outside of Mt Washington for a day since I was a kid.  It struck me how well they have managed the growth there.  Everything is well maintained and clean, service everywhere is very friendly.  They have a beautiful little old school downtown area and outlet shopping.  My preconceived notion was that we were heading up to the sticks but the whole area is a fantastic destination.

We got to the park 10 minutes before it opened and were second in our line to enter the park.

Clean, friendly and just right.  I never felt like it was a Disney-like operation where they are trying to squeeze every last penny out of you at every turn, and I never felt like it was overly commercialized.  Fantastic.  IF you have the means and don’t bring your kids there between the ages of 3-11 that you are really missing out on a great time with your children.
