What a Difference a Day Makes

As another snow storm moves in the view from Lobster Cove in Manchester changes one day to the next.

Barry had the gang over for some football, and I was running late!

Winniahdin?

Do you know where Winniahadin is? It's in West Gloucester, near the Castle Manor Inn. The little bridge is still there. We may see some snow on Sunday similar to this. I researched Winniahadin several years ago on the internet, and it's referenced in historical documents.

Gloucester Gets a Dusting

We only had a dusting of snow today. That's a good thing, because I haven't gotten my shovel or salt/sand bucket out yet. Mother Nature is telling us to get ready. This is Gloucester Harbor about 1930, but I can't place it's exact location. That's not City Hall in the background.

First Snow – Essex

Snow

As frightful as snow may be, especially before the Thanksgiving travels, we were spared yesterday from adding snow to the storm troubles. It was just enough, though, to make some snow scenes appear.

Safe travels to all and enjoy Thanksgiving

Come Snow or Balmy Weather~Don’t Park in Rockport Overnight

Here's a head's up. Although the weather isn't bad (yet), The Town of Rockport has a winter parking ban in effect after 12 midnight tonight. From the GDT: "Beginning Nov. 15, through April 1, 2014, the annual winter parking ban will be in effect between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. On-street parking is prohibited during this time. Parking will be allowed in these areas: the perimeter of the resident parking lot adjacent to Town Hall, Back Beach at the metered parking spots in front of the restrooms, and T-Wharf. Call the DPW office at 978-546-3525 or the Rockport Police Department at 978-546-1212." This violation will cost you $25.

The woods of Dogtown are lovely and deep

… but not dark!

Walking the straight and narrow (the “boardwalk”, apparently – but made of stone….)

We ended up taking the road less traveled (barely visible in this photo)

Winter’s last gasp?

Maybe, maybe not. Anyway, here are some images from our latest storm.

Snow removal the old-fashioned way on Main Street

The snow clearing crews have done a fantastic job, and have worked practically around the clock. Still, people on Main Street had to get out last Sunday to make their storefronts accessible. They carved narrow pathways along the sidewalk, which were used by people like me who were out for the Chocolate Tour.

Cancellations at Holy Family Parish

Due to the weather conditions, there will be no 4PM Mass today at St. Ann’s Church in Gloucester.  The “Whole Parish Faith Formation” program that was scheduled for tomorrow morning, also at St. Ann’s, is also cancelled.  Right now, we can’t even get the doors of the rectory or the church open, although we can get from one to the other through a connecting bridge…

St. Joachim’s Church in Rockport is currently without power and covered in snow (like the rest of Rockport), so stay tuned for possible cancellations of the Masses tomorrow and the baptisms tomorrow afternoon.

If I don’t do anything today, it’s Nobody’s fault

“Nemo” means “Nobody” in Latin.

Video- Fred Bodin’s Ride To Work In the Snow

Fred writes-

This morning I commuted to work on the bus. The newly fallen snow was beautiful. My camera was in the backpack, so I filmed the ride from Folly Cove to Downtown Gloucester, including Lanesville, Annisquam, Bay View, Riverdale, and the City. Enjoy! — at Gloucester, Massachusetts.

The snow storm in Connecticut

I was home for Christmas, which was great. I didn’t make it back to Gloucester before the storm because I got laid up with a stomach sickness (the cause of my not having a post ready yesterday). As a consequence, I go to enjoy a good snowfall at home! We got around 8″ of snow.

The view from my parents’ house in Connecticut is always beautiful, but especially with snow!
