Poll- With Giusepppes Closed What Kind Of Restaurant Would You Like To Fill That Space

I think the only void we have in the dining scene on Cape Ann is Indian Food. If you’ve been to Anmol in Beverly you know it’s really fantastic. If we could lure the owners of Anmol to open up in the space in the basement of the Blackburn Building that would be round out Gloucester’s dining menu.

What type of restaurant would you like to see there?

Edit: After thinking about this I’m not sure that we have a true Steak House here. That would be something that could add to our dining options. However with the crazy high price of good beef I’m not sure that we could support a real deal Steak House. We could have a place that serves steak obviously but to get real aged beef after you triple your food cost (how most restaurants come up with their pricing) I don’t think we have enough people having business meetings on company credit cards that don’t care that they are spending $40 for a steak and $100 bottle of wine. That’s big city stuff.

So I stand by my original choice of Indian food. Oh and for the people that have never tried Indian food, you’re really missing out. Anmol is a treasure for the people in Beverly.

Larry Carsman performs at Giuseppe’s on Sunday June 9th

SINGER/GUITARIST LARRY CARSMAN PERFORMS SUNDAY
JUNE 9 AT GIUSEPPE’S RESTAURANT IN GLOUCESTER
LC by Mara 12,08 072
Larry Carsman, master singer/guitarist who interprets songs from Springsteen to Segovia, performs Saturday night June 9 from 6-9 PM at Giuseppe’s Restaurant, on Main Street in Gloucester’s West End.

Carsman cofounded the James Montgomery Band in 1971. He also taught guitar to many local luminaries — including Livingston Taylor, Pete Kennedy (The Kennedys), Chuck
McDermott (Wheatstraw) and many others.

Since the mid 70s, Larry has focused on selecting and arranging a vibrant repertoire for solo performance — drawn from traditional and modern jazz, blues, classical, Brazilian, folk, soul and contemporary artists.

Live and on his 2009 solo debut CD Better Late, his warm vibrant voice blends
effortlessly with his nylon-strung classically fingered guitar. Larry’s influences and songs
span a rich diverse range of vintage and modern artists – Mose Allison, Josh White, B.B.
King, Buddy Guy, Big Bill Broonzy, John Coltrane, Lightning Hopkins, Miles Davis,
Bruce Springsteen, Blossom Dearie, Julian Bream, Carlos Jobim, Gilberto Gil and Luis
Bonfa.

Billy Novick, celebrated musician and producer of Better Late, says: “Larry definitely
makes the songs his own. But because he has such a deep knowledge, respect and love of
so many different types of music, the songs are all genuine, soulful, and different…
There’s no loss of a song’s emotion or integrity when Larry performs it. In fact, the songs
become much richer, because of his imaginative yet nuanced interpretations.”

Random Acts of Kindness- Giuseppe’s

Joey,

I wanted to share a story of kindness I was lucky enough to witness today. Some friends were planning a birthday dinner party on Sunday for their 6-year-old-to-be at Giuseppe’s restaurant on Main Street. Forty-four people had reserved weeks in advance but the big event got called off a couple hours before due to a sudden illness in the family.

I don’t know anything about running a restaurant but I’d be pretty upset to lose a tab of 44 people for dinner and drinks. Instead, Giuseppe’s co-owner Memory Layne heard about the illness and sent dinner on the house to the little boy, his family and their friends. Someone tried to pay her for it but Memory wouldn’t take a dime, instead asking how the sick family member was doing and wishing him a speedy recovery.

Little moments of kindness like this make life sweeter. They’re not all that surprising in Gloucester, a place where people look out for each other more than any other place I’ve ever known. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t stop and point them out once in a while.

Memory Layne and people like her are part of what we all love about this place.
