Eastern Point Lit House and Duckworth’s Bistrot invite you to join your favorite authors as they sit down over a glass of fine wine and fresh, seasonal appetizers to discuss a book that moves them. This is not a lecture–guests are strongly encouraged to engage in the discussion. Our goal is to have fun in a thoughtful way. Make sure to reserve your spot early. Seating is limited, and you’ll want to give yourself time to read the book of the month.

Joey C Kickstarter Project Number One- GMG Vajazzling Studio Project

With the number of Kickstarter campaigns spiraling into the stratosphere I’ve decided to launch my own Kickstarter campaign for the very first dedicated Vajazzling Studio In Gloucester.

image

Let’s be honest, if Short and Main can raise $22K to pay for a Pizza Oven, my drumming up the dough for a Vajzzling Studio should be a no-brainer.

If Duckworth Bistrot can enter a contest for a new door, if EJ can pull off a Kickstarter for her Owl and The Pussycat book, if some crazy cat lady can get a felt costumes for kitty cats project funded, then there’s no way in hell we would fail in our quest to raise enough dough for a fancy local  Vajazzling studio.

image

It’s all the rage. Screw this lobster business crap.  Stinky bait, angry lobstermen, early morning start time and long hours vs Vajazzling coochies for a living.  Hmmm this is not a very difficult decision.

I’ll just need a back up man to take care of the not-so-attractive patrons.  Paulie Walnuts is looking for work.  Bingo!  Paulie Walnuts and me Vajazzling coochies all over the North Shore.

Help me make my Vajazzling dream a reality.  Look for my upcoming Gloucester based Vajazzling Kickstarter campaign which will be forthcoming.  I will offer many levels of pledges starting with base level backers and working our way up to more comprehensive “rewards” for more substantial backers.

Short and Main offered a $100 option for-

Receive a signed copy of Food & Wine’s latest cookbook, “America’s Greatest New Cooks” featuring Nico and Amelia Monday. You’ll also receive a menu from opening night and a thank you video from Matt in his lobster suit.

Hell I’ll toss in a signed GMG DVD, a couple Homie Stickas and a video of me in a monkey suit singing the start spangled banner for a hundred bones.

Disclaimer: woman I live with and may or may not be related to through marriage will not be pledging.

If Jennifer Love Hewitt is all in for Vajazzling it’s good enough for me.

If this works out (and obviously it’s money in the bank) we’ll get Kim Smith in there to penizzle up dude’s man-parts.

We could take over the world Vajazzling and Penizzling women and men all over the North Shore.

Editor’s note:

Over/Under on the amount of time before we see a Kickstarter project for the Paint Factory project offering people the right to come in and paint or landscape the joint for a mere $100,000?

I’m saying within six months and I’m taking the under.

Death Row Meal

With the overwhelming popularity of The Death Row Sub Post we roll out the Death Row Meal Post.

Same concept-

For this post to be successful you would leave a comment on it explaining what your choice would be.

If you were on Death Row on Cape Ann.  Going to be executed that night and the executioner gives you an option for one meal from any restaurant in town which meal would it be and from which joint?

Place your answer in the comment section below this post.

To leave a comment look directly below the post for the link that either says “Leave a comment” or “Comments with a number before it” ie: 21 Comments,  letting you know how many comments have already been left on that post

So many great options to choose from but I’m thinking it would have to be The Lobster Risotto at Duckworth’s Bistrot.

Vote For Duckworth’s Bistrot

Nicole Duckworth writes-

Hey Joey,
I was late getting us entered, the deadline is May 12. Could you spread the word? We are hoping to win a small business grant for the Bistrot.
Thanks so much!

Ken Duckworth and Lara Lepionka- Locavore City Up In Duckworth’s Bistrot Baby!

2012-09-25 12.04.05

You know those glossy food magazines with all the stuffy pretentious locavores all tripping over themselves to promote the latest trend like last year rabbit- you know the ones I’m talking about.  The foodie bananaheads you just wanna punch in the throat because they’re so obnoxious? See-

Obnoxious Foodies and Rabbit

There are people around GTown quietly walkin the walk, talkin the talk and bein’ all locavorish without all the pomp and circumstance and having to announce it to the world and get all up in your grill with it like it’s a badge of honor.

They just buy locally grown produce and locally caught fish and lobsters because they know it’s the freshest and the best stuff they can provide their customers with for the tastiest dish- plain and simple.

And that’s where the picture of Lara Lepionka and Ken Duckworth which I snapped yesterday comes in.   I’m over there because Ken was without a vehicle to come pick up his lobsters yesterday and who pulls up next to me is Lara with her containers of fresh picked produce from her Beacon Street Farm

image

Each container looked like a masterpiece of natural beauty and the smell from the fresh herbs was (forgive me if I sound like an obnoxious foodie here)- intoxicating.

So there Ken and Lara, you don’t have to beat your drum of how you’re using and providing the best and freshest locally grown ingredients, your boy Joey C just did it for you.

#Boom!

Contact Lara about getting some of her home grown goodness here

And if you want the best damn meal you’re gonna eat anywhere anytime- it’s Duckworth’s Bistrot- Duh, obvi!

Duck Leg Confit at Duckworth’s Bistrot

Even the Rubber Duck thought the Duck Leg Confit with a waffle looked yummy. It was.

A quick tip: reservations at Duckworth’s Bistrot are hard to come by. I have a hard time thinking two weeks ahead of time. But the 4-4:30PM slot on Saturday can be nabbed even  only a day in advance if you’re lucky. Just have an early brunch then aim to be hungry by 4.

Another tip: the kids can have dessert but the adults can have the Espresso Martini, both pictured below. (Then you have the rest of the evening and you’re wide awake!)

Yes, those are two right hands. I guess the adults can have just a wee bite.

Photos of the dish to follow later in the week. Ken can make even a rubber duck tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. RD had the Expresso Martini for dessert and was up all night quacking up a storm.

Ken Duckworth Prepares Line Caught Gloucester Cod on Taste of the Times

Click the picture to watch Ken Duckworth of Duckworth's Bistrot and Duckworth Beach Gourmet prepare a remarkably easy gourmet dish.

Ken explains that he does not just cook, he composes a meal based on contrasting flavors in order to fully engage your taste buds. Whenever possible he also uses ingredients that are from local waters and farms. In this recipe he utilizes a line caught cod from a Gloucester fisherman and makes a celery root puree similar to mashed potatoes.”]<a href=”http://food.gloucestertimes.com/?

Duckworth’s Bistrot Gets Highest Zagat Rating In The Entire Boston and Surrounding Area Restaurants

Zagat has awarded our own Duckworth’s Bistrot a score of 29 out of 30.  Out of 1200 reviews (you read that right, 1200)  Duckworth scored a 29.   No restaurant in Boston or any of the surrounding communities have scored as high in the current edition.

Of course it couldn’t hurt that Ken being the knowledgeable restaurant owner that he is gets his lobsters at our dock. 🙂

Where The Locals Go Coupon Spotlight- Duckworth’s Bistrot

Where The Locals Go

Today’s Where The Locals Go coupon spotlight is for the award winning Duckworth’s Bistrot. In the $10 Where The Locals Go coupon book the Duckworth coupon is for a complimentary dessert with any entree. Not too shabby.
Ken was a chef at Maison Robert in Downtown Boston in his former life and his lovely wife Nicole makes kick ass desserts for Duckworth’s. If you use that coupon, know that Nicole probably made the fantastic dessert you would be about to eat. I hear his lobster dishes are particularly tasty!

Duckworth’s Bistrot- Best Of The New Boston Globe Magazine

Well Ken and Nicole’s Joint isn’t exactly new any more but they still pump out the incredible food that garnered them this award.  They have a fairly unique to these parts concept of allowing you to order half portions of meals.  It’s a great way for folks to order a bunch of different things and sample them all.
