Raw Footage Preview of Chelsea Berry at North Shore Music Theatre last night

Local photographer / filmmaker Brendan Pike shot some excellent video last night of the Chelsea Berry Band rocking the North Shore Music Theatre “like nobody has ever done before,” as one long-time theatre-goer exclaimed after the show.

Of course you are among the very first people to see this raw footage because you’re an FOB!  And as soon as we have more to share (Brendan shot Chelsea’s entire set), you’ll be first to see that video too.

Tomorrow will rock with a New Orleans flavor when Aaron Neville takes the stage with Henri Smith opening — There are still tickets left (get them here), and, as you can tell by this video, which was shot from behind the LAST ROW, all seats are good seats.  No; make that GREAT seats.  And the sound is spectacular!

Weather is clear and looks perfect for the evening, so get out to Fiesta and party!  Over a dozen great choices for live music in town tonight.  Check out the full live music schedule here.

3 Answers: Where will the Zip Line Kid be tonight? Where can you get Fiesta Coupons? & Why is Chelsea Berry in the news in LYNN?

Today’s Daily Item of Lynn story about Chris Isaak’s concert tomorrow at North Shore Music Theatre includes an interview with Chelsea Berry (see Lynn Item Story Here).  Now, for some reason she told the reporter how old she is (I thought women never did that — she never told me).  More importantly, read the story and find out how she’s taking her  music in a new direction, which you can experience for yourself tomorrow night when Chelsea and her new band open for Chris Isaak (whose birthday is today).  VIP is sold out, but seats are still left — and all seats at the Music Theatre are good seats.  Get tickets here.

OK, where do you think the Zip Line Kid will be tonight?  It’s wrist band night at Fiesta.  That means your kids (and you too if you can handle it) get unlimited rides for one price.   So our family will be at Fiesta — rain or shine.  And we will save $5 with a coupon.  You can get one too here.

Just in case you’d rather be inside tonight (see full live music lineup here), check out Fly Amero with guitar virtuoso Jake Pardee at Rhumb Line.  Here’s part of Jake’s appearance on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes, where he talks about guitar playing, lessons, listening, neighbors, Berklee and says, “Jimi Hendrix and John Coltrane to me are very similar.”  Then he proves my point about his virtuosity!

Picks of the weekend from Boston Globe, Wicked Local Northshore & 104.9 Radio

Peter Chianca, of Gatehouse Media published an excellent interview with Chris Isaak (read it here).  Drummers: pay attention to what Chris says on page 2, and all of you who care what stars wear on stage will want to know how much his mirrored suit weighs (page 3).

You can see Chris Isaak live at North Shore Music Theatre on Thursday, with the Chelsea Berry Band opening.  All seats are good seats and there are still some seats left (and  a few VIP packages).  Get tickets here.

L-R: Aaron Neville, Don Was, Keith Richards

Tomorrow Morning, Aurelia Nelson interviews Aaron Neville on her show Curtain Up at 9am on Northshore 104.9 FM.  If you’re not near a radio, you can listen live on your computer or iPhone (get the free iPhone app here)

Aurelia and Aaron talk about his music legacy in pop, rock, soul, R&B and his new project with Keith Richards.  Plus you’ll get an idea of the music we’ll here next Saturday at North Shore Music Theatre.  Good seats are still available for this show (and a few VIP packages).  Henri Smith opens with an all-star band.  Get tickets here.

Who did the Boston Globe pick for the best music north of Boston tonight?  Our own KBMG at the Old Sloop Coffee House.  Just in case you’re not sure this is the show for you, watch the video above.  Nothing more to say.

The KBMG show will sell out, so for those of you don’t make it in time, there are over a dozen other good choices for live music.  See the full live music lineup here.

Meet Chelsea Berry’s New Band

L-R: Mike Moschetto, Renee Dupuis, Chelsea Berry, Michael Thomas Doyle, Ann Marie, Pete Iannitto

Monday you got a sneak peek at Chelsea Berry’s new band rehearsing — and Yesterday you heard the acoustic vs electric versions of one of Chelsea’s new songs, so we figured today would be a good day to introduce the band, whose debut will be next Thursday 6/28 at North Shore Music Theatre opening for Chris Isaak.  Here are brief profiles of Chelsea’s band members (Chelsea, of course, needs no introduction):

Michael Thomas Doyle – Lead Guitar
Michael is currently a senior at Berklee College of Music, and multi-instrumentalist. He is known for his high-energy performances and ecclectic style of playing. Mike Moschetto – Drums
Mike Moschetto is a graduate of Emerson College from North Andover, MA. Aside from being a drummer, Mike is the owner and engineer of the Office Recording in North Andover, MA. and has worked with many local acts in the New England area. Pete Iannitto  – Bass

Renee is honored to be a part of Chelsea Berry’s band! For more information visit www.reneedupuismusic.com.
It’s summer.  It’s hot.  And so is Cape Ann’s music scene (see full live music lineup here).  You have 30 performers to choose from on Cape Ann just tonight and tomorrow!  If you’ve never seen What Time Is It Mr. Fox?, here’s your chance — don’t pass it up.  They’re at the Dog Bar tonight.  Here’s a video of one of my favorite Brian King songs, Cold Rain (starts about 1 minute into the video and it gets louder too).

In case you didn’t know, Cold Rain was covered brilliantly by New Orleans Soul Queen, Irma Thomas (listen here).

“I can hear that one with the band” ~ OK, Allen, here it is!

A few weeks ago, we premiered Chelsea Berry‘s new song Lonely Being Lonely on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes (see the post here).  When she finished the song, Allen said, “Yeah, I can hear that one with the band.” to which Chelsea replied, “That’s the electric guitar song.”

This video shows part of the solo acoustic version aired on Local Music Seen followed by the electric version of that same part of the song shot at a rehearsal for the band’s debut on June 28 at North Shore Music Theatre opening for Chris Isaak.  Enjoy!

It’s another hot summer night with plenty of music by (and on) the water –or in air conditioned venues — from classic rock to string quartet to open mic to soul and blues.  Take your pick.  See the full live music lineup here.

Sneak Peek Inside the Chelsea Berry Band Rehearsal

This video gives FOB’s the very first look at Chelsea’s new band as they rehearse for their June 28 debut opening for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre (see Sunday Globe story about it here).

Sun is back and tonight there’s more live music in Gloucester than any other Monday this year.  If you’re free right now, head on down to the Rose Baker Senior Center and catch Dave Sag and his Good Old Salty Jazz Band!   See full live music lineup here.

Now for some sad news.  The great Doc Watson died yesterday.  His playing influenced a generation of guitarists, including one of Gloucester’s best, Allen Estes, who knew both Doc and his late son Merle.   I saw Doc with other greats including Bill Monroe several times in Bean Blossom Indiana in the 70s.  Here’s a video of Doc with Earl Scruggs, Ricky Skaggs & Alison Krauss.  Enjoy!

There are plenty of choices for live music tonight and many of them might be willing to play a Doc Watson tune if you request it.  See full music lineup here.

Her new electric band rocks, but it’s her voice that wraps itself around your heart and won’t let go

Yes, we’ve been touting Chelsea Berry‘s new electric band lately (see this post, for example)  But it’s really her voice that captures you.  Watch this video and see what we mean.  Allen got goose bumps listening to this song when we shot Local Music Seen a couple of weeks ago.  You can see the entire show tomorrow at 6:30pm on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.  The show features a new song by Allen Estes and a new song by Chelsea.  Plus she closes with one of my favorites.

And you can see Chelsea with her new band open for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre on June 28.  This will be the first time Chelsea’s new band performs in public and the only Boston area Chris Isaak concert this year.  Don’t wait until it’s sold out.  Get tickets now.

It’s Tuesday in Gloucester.  Just in case you missed last Tuesday’s admonition, check it out here.  OK, now that you’re convinced to go out, click here to see tonight’s full music lineup.

You know it’s the Summer season on Cape Ann by the weather (trust me, it will be very nice tomorrow) and by the fact that tonight you have a dozen choices for live music.  See full music lineup here.  And it gets even better going into the long holiday weekend.

Whether or not you supported the wars, let’s honor those who “gave the last full measure of devotion” to preserve our freedom by supporting those who express that freedom  through their music.

“Without cover of the night would you still be the light he is drawn to?”

Any doubt that Chelsea Berry is one of Cape Ann’s finest songwriters will be vanquished by her haunting new tune.  Chelsea uses the first TV performance of this song to show off her powerful, dramatic, versatile voice.  Then she reveals how she wrote the song, proving that  Livingston Taylor was right when he said, “A voice of remarkable power and control with a joyous soul. Brave and bright, Chelsea Berry is the real thing.”  Watch the video and see what we mean.

You can see Chelsea open for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre on June 28 with her new band.  Imagine the electric version of this song!

Lots of opportunities to start the weekend early tonight from solo acoustic to open mic to DJ to Rock, Reggae and more.  See the full music lineup here.

Another new song by Allen Estes ~ perfect for the summer kick-off!

He’s on a roll, folks.  Every week we hear a new Allen Estes song — and they keep getting better too!  This gem is featured on Local Music Seen TONIGHT at 6:30 on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.  Chelsea Berry is Allen’s guest on this week’s show — and she has a beautiful new song too — must be something in the air!

If case you forgot, Chelsea will be opening for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre on June 28 with her new band — and they ROCK.  Imagine Chelsea’s powerful voice soaring over a rockin’ new band.  This will be the first time you can see them together on a magical night in an intimate listening venue with perfect sound.  Tickets are selling fast, so don’t wait until the last minute — get tickets here.

Sun’s out today.  Seven shows tonight.  Summer’s here in spirit.  Check out the music lineup here.

As Promised, you Saw/Heard it on GMG First

Perhaps you saw our post about the Concert Series we’re presenting at North Shore Music Theatre (click here if you missed it) in which we said GMG viewers will be the first to learn who will open for Chris Isaak on June 28.  That was almost true.  Actually, people who signed up for our newsletter were notified yesterday (you can sign up here, so you’re the first to know about new concerts).  But this is the first public announcement, so here goes . . .

Chelsea Berry has agreed to open for Chris Isaak.   Chelsea is one of Cape Ann’s top rising stars and she’ll have her full band.  If you haven’t heard Chelsea, this would be your best introduction to a major talent.  And if you’re already familiar, here’s a rare chance to see Chelsea with a full band in an intimate concert venue with excellent sound.  All seats are within 50 feet of the stage and there’s plenty of parking.  But there aren’t plenty of tickets (less than 1500) and they’re going fast (click here to get yours).  If you want to get yourself into the Chelsea mood, you can see her Mother’s Day show this Saturday at The Landing.  Call 978-526-7494 for tickets.

Wow, what a week we’re having (musically that is).  15 different artists appearing between now and Friday (see full music lineup here).  And another dozen over the weekend!   Time to party!

She’s back … and she brought a friend. Let’s welcome Chelsea & Megan tonight at the Brew Pub @ 5pm.

Last month, one of our favorite local artists, Chelsea Berry brought a friend to town: Colorado singer/songwriter Megan Burtt — and now she one of our favorites too.  Here are two videos from one of last month’s concerts.

Powerful story of friendship and adventure followed by a song full of wisdom that seems far beyond her years (see more videos from that concert here.)

One  of our favorite Chelsea Berry songs that we think she should sing at every gig!

There’s music all day today.  It’s going on now at Alchemy and continues into late in the evening at Dog Bar, where Ryan Alto starts at 9.  See the full music lineup here.

One of our favorite Chelsea Berry Songs

Here’s a great version of For You by Chelsea Berry filmed at the House Concert last Sunday.

Brute force string recovery @ Alchemy

Chelsea Berry broke two strings last night at Alchemy.  That’s unusual for her — she must have been excited by the packed house.

In this video, her good friend Megan Burtt’s brute force helps Chelsea recover and continue the song.

Also notice how they tease Andrew & Clayton.  A splendid time was had by all!

Lots to do tonight: folk, rock, blues, DJ Dancing and open mic.  See full lineup here.

“You think that it is a safe place to hide – But I’ve already been there”

Lyrics like that are why this song will be a HIT.  Then there’s the haunting melody, full of gorgeous melismas, sung perfectly by rising star Megan Burtt, who’s visiting her friend Chelsea Berry in Gloucester this week.

You can see the two of them at Alchemy tonight at 7pm.  Might be your last chance to catch this Denver native for a while, unless you want to follow her on tour — see dates here.

If you can’t get in to Alchemy, there’s other great music in town (see full lineup here).  And you late-nighters can see Dennis Monagle hosting The Dejas starting at 9pm at Minglewood.

Oh yeah, she can ROCK too!

Yesterday we introduced you to Megan Burt, the gimmesound Artist of the Week, and featured a video of her solo delta blues hit — and the story behind it (click here if you missed it).  Today, you get to see her ROCK.  Check out the video above.

Tomorrow you can see her live at Alchemy with her good friend and Gloucester singer/songwriter Chelsea Berry.

It’s Tuesday in Gloucester.  That means KBMG or Henley Douglas Jr.  Details here.

Rising star shines on Gloucester this week

Chelsea Berry introduced us to her good friend and fellow singer/songwriter, Megan Burtt at a house concert last night.  The fact that Chelsea has excellent taste in friends and musicians is proven by Megan.  She and Chelsea rocked the crowd.  We captured much of the concert on video.  Here’s one song and a captivating story.  Watch it and see why we chose this rising star as gimmesound’s Artist of the Week.

You can see Megan live at Alchemy on Wednesday (Chelsea will sit in too).  You may want to call ahead for reservations 978-281-3997.  The word is spreading fast that Megan and Chelsea are not to be missed!

Last night Chelsea Berry recorded her next CD, which will be released on January 27 when she headlines Shalin Liu.  It was a magical evening.  About 50 close friends and adoring fans participated in the recording as Chelsea took us all to a place we have never been before!

Thank you, Chelsea

Want more Chelsea Berry??

So do we and we are all going to get it when she releases her new CD at the end of the month – Stay tuned!
