Home Grown Baby! The NightSUP Video From Tyler Knight

Built right here on Cape Ann!!!!!!

The NightSUP was designed by Tyler, Dominic and Sylvie from Cape Ann SUP.

We showed our designs to Keith Natti over at Twin Lights Glassing. He scratched his head and looked at us like we were crazy….but in the end, so was he.  Keith’s attention to detail has made this project even better than any of us hoped. We’ve tested these boards in lots of conditions and we’ve even had Harbor Seals use the light from the boards to hunt the fish below us.

So before the barage of Shark comments, We just want to say this: If YOU are the largest predator in your’ waters, then you need a SUP with LEDs. You will see your’ own waterways and wildlife in a brand new and magical way.

Double Waterproof LEDs and a rechargable batteries are the recipe for a whole new way to view nature and Paddleboard more safely at night time. This is the custom creation of a surf punk and a sup kook who put aside the chatter to come up with something RAD.

Origami rubber ducky represents in paperfolded Bethlehem

The nativity scene is folded from tissue foil using models of my own design.  Each model is folded from one rectangle.  The duck was folded my me, but designed by Gay Merrill Gross (diagrams in issue #5 of Creased magazine).

Are there any other Cape Ann origami artists out there who’d like to get together to fold? I’ve been thinking about starting a local origami group.   I don’t know how much interest there would be, nor how often we could meet. My parish schedule is pretty full, but a monthly meeting might be feasible.

How about starting a support group for those of us whose vacations are over-ha!  Could be called GMG ( "Grieving, Missing Gloucester")! There is still so much great stuff going on in town–love reading about it all!

Out of Africa – A Big Hit

Photos by E.J.

The Opening of the Out of Africa exhibit of photography and paintings by Judith Monteferrante, Rich Seeley and Roger Salisbury was a big hit, and an amazing grand finale guest artists exhibit opening for the first season of Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery on Rocky Neck. We have never had so many people packed inside and waiting outside the Gallery for an event this season – and we’ve had many very well attended events. A gallery talk was scheduled for 6:00 pm, but the crowd was so thick that it was impossible for the artists to even consider giving a talk. Neighbors watching the flow of people in and out, estimated visitors throughout the evening at between 150 and 200 people. Kudos to the Gloucester Daily Times for putting the opening info on the front page of Saturday’s paper, as many people who came said they had learned about it from the Times. For those of you who wanted to see the exhibit but couldn’t make it to the opening, or those who came but couldn’t see the work because of all the people, the show will be up through October 6, so please come back and see the exhibit daily from noon to 8:00 pm. There are also videos of the animals and a digital frame with a slideshow of many of the photos taken but not physically exhibited in the gallery. This exhibit is truly a great adventure, an African safari that you can vicariously experience through these artists’ work. Don’t miss it.

New Cape Ann Choir School Launched

image

St. John’s Church, 48 Middle Street, Gloucester launches a new program "Cape Ann Choir School" on Thursdays from 4:30-6 pm.  The program is intended to give children of reading age and older the chance to sing a wide variety of great music.  The children will rehearse weekly, and have opportunities to play handbells, African drums as well as learn how to read and write music.  The children will sing at St. John’s Church 2 Sunday mornings a month as well as a short Evensong service at 6 pm on the first Thursday of each month.  The Choir School will also seek to sing in the community as well.

The foundation of the educational program is "Voice for Life" from the Royal School of Church Music in America www.rscmamerica.org.  This graded program serves to educate the singers in developing healthy vocal techniques along with learning the language of music.  Through singing Children will gain confidence and poise, raise their skill levels in academic and social situations, and learn discipline.  Choristers do not need to be Episcopalian nor members of St. John’s Church.  The program has received more than $10,000 to fund this initial year, for materials, vestments, training and visiting coaches.  The funding has come in both grants from agencies of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts as well as from members and friends of St. John’s Church.  This money will also be used to offer partial and full scholarships to the choristers to cover the $100/semester tuition.

No child, desiring to sing will be turned away for lack of finances.  Leading the program are St. John’s parish musician Mark Nelson who has been Music Director at the church since 2001.  Assisting him is Astrid afKlinteberg who will be a singing leader as well as managing the group.  The program is beginning this week, and children come this Thursday, September 22 or Thursday September 29th to register.

There is more information at the Choir School website http://www.capeannchoirschool.org/ e-mail:  st.johns.music@earthlink.net or telephone: 978.283.1708 ext 2. The public is welcome to support this group with your attendance and/or contributions.
