Representing at Punkin Chunkin 2013

Hello Joey & Good Morning Gloucester!

Do you remember the pumpkin cannon & team members in front of Cape Ann Brewing Company during Fiesta?

“American Chunker” actually broke the world record while I watched on Friday afternoon.  As the de facto  “home team” for Cape Ann  — Brian Labrie’s distance of 4,694.68 feet  has succeeded in bringing home the Gold…  Viva!!!    Enjoy the photos!

2013 GHS Field Hockey Tournament vs Tewksbury Coverage By John Nasser

John Nasser Submits-

The 2013 GHS Field Hockey team played Tewksbury this past Wednesday in Tewksbury after qualifying for Tournament play during the regular season.
Even though the Gloucester girls lost 1-0 on a very hard fought game, they played their hearts out and gave everything they had.
Gloucester hasn’t seen tournament action since 2008 according to the GDT.
Congratulations to all the ladies and first year Head Coach Lauren Riley on an exciting and successful season.
They’ve made their school and fans proud!

2013 GHS Field Hockey Kudos From John Nasser

Hello Joey,

I just thought that the 2013 GHS Field Hockey team should get a little recognition for qualifying for the State Tournament this season following a 3-1 victory over Peabody this past Monday night.

These girls worked their tails off this year.

Right now their record stands at 8-6-1 which puts them in 4th place in their division. They have one more game to play before the tournament begins.

I believe it’s been six years since they last qualified.

The team is led by head coach Lauren Riley and assisted by her Dad, Don Riley.

Congratulations Ladies!

Huge Kudos To The Team That Produced The Rockport Harvest Festival

That town was jumpin!

Great job all the way around!  Took the trolley from the Rockport Transfer station- less than 5 minutes of a ride on the cool trolley with a super friendly attendant and driver- total no brainer rather than driving in circles in downtown Rockport trying to find a spot to park.

Thanks for the time and energy you put in to make such a fantastic day- we really appreciated it.

and for anyone that missed it- you really ought to pencil it into your calendar for next year- It’s a must-do event.

“The Dublin Guitar Quartet have no frontiers when it comes to blazing a trail for contemporary music.”— Sunday Business Post (Ireland)

Described as a “quartet with a difference” by the Irish Times, the Dublin Guitar Quartet is a one-of-a-kind classical guitar ensemble that occupies a unique space in the wider chamber music world. It is the first classical guitar quartet devoted to new music. Since its formation at the Dublin Conservatory of Music and Drama, DGQ has worked to expand the limited repertoire by commissioning new works and adapting modern masterpieces from outside of the guitar repertoire. Audiences can expect an explosive, entertaining, and completely novel concert experience.

Gloucester IDRC presents the Oar Master’s Cup Race

The Oar Master’s Cup Race is the only annual dory rowing competition which pits single rowers against one another in multiple heats over a set course to determine the fastest singles rower in the USA .  The 2013 course will begin at the Maritime Center pier and proceed out around Ten Pound Island and back (1.75 miles).  Heats will be limited to 4 dories provided by the IDRC and the fastest time will be crowned the Oar Master 2013.  This annual race will take place this Sunday, September 29th at 10 AM (best viewed from, and rowers report to Maritime Gloucester Center …dories will be towed over).  The Oar Master’s Cup race is open to all IDRC members and you do not need to be an advanced rower to compete.  As long as you can navigate the course, you are encouraged to sign up and enjoy a great day of rowing and camaraderie with your friends from the IDRC!!!

As a special tribute, the 2013 Oar Master’s Cup Race will be dedicated in memory of IDRC member Mike Regan of Springfield , MA .  Mike was a fan of dory rowing and loved to get out for a row in a dory when visiting Gloucester .  He passed away suddenly last month and will be dearly missed by his friends and family.  All members are encouraged to come down and row or watch, then join us for a light luncheon to celebrate life and Mike.

Please shoot me an email if you would like to register to race or if you can help with race logistics on Sunday.
