Outdoor Organized Activity Ban – EEE & Mosquitoes
Recently a horse in Essex was found to have a mosquito-borne disease, Eastern Equine Encephalitis. As a result, the Rockport Board of Health has decided to ban all outdoor organized activities in the Town of Rockport during peak mosquito hours (5 p.m. to 8 a.m.) effective immediately until the first hard frost.
EEE is a rare but serious illness, transmitted through the bite of a mosquito.
The Board of Health reminds all residents to continue to take the following precautions to avoid mosquito bites:
* make sure all window and door screens are in good repair
* remove all standing water from your property and encourage your neighbors to do the same
* use mosquito repellent, read and follow application instructions
* wear long-sleeved shirts and pants when outdoors, especially between dusk and dawn
* use mosquito netting on baby carriages
* avoid areas where there is obvious mosquito activity

The Perfect Day For It!

National Hot Mulled Cider Day
- Today is National Hot Mulled Cider Day! Hot mulled cider is a delicious drink perfectly suited for crisp September afternoons. Apple cider is produced using a cider press and is a time-honored favorite of the autumn season.
To make mulled cider, slowly add brown sugar to apple cider in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until all the sugar has dissolved. Add other ingredients such as nutmeg, allspice, orange juice, and lemon juice, and bring to a boil. Strain out the spices, pour into a mug, and add a cinnamon stick.
Enjoy National Hot Mulled Cider Day as you sip on your homemade brew!

Mark Goetemann Looking for a Rig and Sail For a 50’s Montgomery Fish Boat
Hi Joey,
I just picked up a 1950’s Mongomery Fish Boat that I’m going to restore and keep on Rocky Neck but I need a rig and sail for it.
Besides Dave Mongomery and the boat yard, do you have any ideas on how I could find one? Could you broadcast the request some way?
Thanks very much,
Mark

Low Tide Golf from Bill O’Connor
So Joey, does this guy meet your criteria for safe bike riding in Gloucester?
See this post if you’re wondering about my reference in the video to the woman from PeopleforBikes.org.
For those of you who don’t get the question, see Joey’s Obnoxious Bike Rider Rant.
Gran Prix of Gloucester Video from Day 1 – Look out Joey, lots of bikes around town
If you missed today’s psycho-cross excitement, this video will give you a feel for what you can expect tomorrow. You really can’t miss this international sporting spectacle, complete with beer, food and plenty of fun for kids. So bring the family up to Stage Fort Park tomorrow. You’ll be glad you did.
Joey, you might want to listen to what Christy from PeopleforBikes.org has to say about putting more people on more bicycles more often — especially in Gloucester!
I ran into Thom Falzarano who shot more race footage. Look for that coming soon.
After a day of cyclocross you may want to warm up a bit. (Can you believe it? John and I were surfing last week!). Plenty of good options for catching great live music (in warm, dry venues) from Beethoven to Ska to 80s to Zappa to Funk, Jazz & good ol’ Rock n Roll! See tonight’s full lineup of live music in Gloucester and Cape Ann here.
Early Saturday Morning Gran Prix
