Holiday Church Fair Day, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., downtown Essex churches. The three churches — St. John the Baptist at 52 Main St., First Universalist Church at 57 Main St., and First Congregational Church at 39 Main St. — are offering gift bargains, white elephant items, children’s activities, homemade food and hot beverages. Parking is on the street or in the municipal lot behind the Martin Street police station.
St. Ann Holiday Fair, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sullivan Hall at St. Ann Church, 70 Pleasant St., Gloucester. Besides the knitted items, featured will be homemade Thanksgiving pies, Italian cookies, a Chinese raffle, Wheel of Fortune, prizes, jewelry, Christmas goods, white elephant items, a Cookie Walk, lobster rolls and chowder, and pictures with Santa.
Thanksgiving Harvest Market, 9 a.m. to noon, Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church, corner of Middle and Church streets. Held by the Cape Ann Farmers Market in conjunction with the Middle Street Harvest Festival, 20-plus vendors include Alprilla Farm, Trupiano Sausage, Herrick Farm, Seaview Farm Meats, & Craquelins Crackers, varieties of produce, soups, baked goods, crafts, meats, cheese, herbs, smoked fish, pasta, and guacamole. Handmade crafts, baked goods, jewelry, cookie walk, artisan cheese, seasonal decorations, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, fish chowder luncheon. Thrift Shop open. Parishioners in Victorian dress celebrate the 150th anniversary of the church and the Gettysburg Address.
Yesterday began with a visit from Radio Talk show hosts, Aurelia Nelson from Nothshore 104.9 Sunday Morning “CurtainUp” and National Radio Talk show host Tonia King from “Creative Voice & Media, Tonia’s Kitchen”. Both joined me in my kitchen for a late afternoon luncheon to discuses my newly released cookbook “Gifts Of Gold In A Sicilian Kitchen With Sista Felicia, Harvest”. Tonia, Aurelia and I enjoyed Lentil Soup and Caramelized Onion & Goat Cheese Flatbread Pizza, (both recipes featured in “Gifts Of Gold”), while chatting about our passions for cooking, connection to food, and our love for family and traditions. After lunch, we rolled up our sleeves and whipped up a batch of Pinulata, also know to many as Struffoli. It was a great afternoon, and I am already looking forward to their next visit. Thank you ladies for spending your afternoon with me in my kitchen!

After an afternoon of food, fun and friendship, my mother and I rushed over to Rockport Ma, to join The Pigeon Cove Circle, as their Guest Speaker for the evening. After sharing a delicious potluck dinner, I share my personal story and the journey about creating my new cookbook “Gifts Of Gold.” The Pigeon Cove Circle is a lovely group of women who meet once a month for dinner to creatively organization ways they can serve the community. Their membership is open to all, and I am so honored to have been invited to be apart of their Circle last night. I encourage you to stop by their annual Holiday Fair, that will begin with quiche brunch this year… look for their public announcement for dates and more details.

The Open Door Thanksgiving Food Drive with North Shore 104.9 will be held on Saturday, November 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Shaw’s on Eastern Avenue, Stop & Shop on Thatcher Road, and Market Basket at Gloucester Crossing. Items most needed: Peanut butter, tuna, hearty soups, breakfast cereal, pasta and pasta sauces, and 100% juice and juice boxes.

I did this post below back in February 2010. I used to bust Joey’s Balls a lot back when I first started Posting for GMG. I used to wait until Late at Night or when Joey went on his Winter vacations. GMG was a little different back then. I think I quit GMG Three times my first year after Joey started censoring my posts and comments that the “readers” might find offensive. What a kill joy. Well stay tuned. Joey’s vacation times start in about a month.

I haven’t yet heard the comparison drawn, but think too that it is a mindless and course appropriation of Mariah Carey’s and Miguel’s evocatively filmed video for #Beautiful. What do you think?
Double Exposure Paperwhites and Snow Globe
Paperwhites (Narcissus tazetta) are another simple to coax into bloom bulb. I find ‘Ziva’ to be the most fragrant and ‘Galilee’ a close second. The ‘Chinese Sacred Lily’ (Narcissus tazetta var. orientalis) is almost as easy to force and has a sweeter, though no less potent fragrance. The scent is a dreamy blend of orange and honeysuckle. They are also a member of the tazetta group bearing multiple blossoms atop slender stalks, with white petals and cheery yellow cups. The ‘Chinese Sacred Lily,’ brought to this country by Chinese immigrants in the late 1800s, is traditionally forced to bloom for New Year’s celebrations.
Paperwhites (Narcissus tazetta)
With both paperwhites and ‘Chinese Sacred Lilies,’ place the bulbs in bowl or pot and cover with stones. The emerging green tips should be poking though the stones. Water up to the halfway point of the bulb and place in a cool dark room; an unheated basement is ideal. Water periodically and within a few weeks, new growth will be visible. Place the bulbs in the room away from strong light, continue to water as needed, and once in bloom, they will flower and scent your home for a week or more. Beginning in November, we maintain a continuous flow of blooming narcissus by planting a new batch every two weeks or so.

Spotlight on Bridgette Mathews
Bridgette feels so lucky to have been born and raised in the beautiful coastal community of Gloucester, and feels spoiled living next door to some of the most photographed surroundings in New England. Every time she goes “ova the bridge” to seek out bigger and better scenes to photograph, she always finds that there’s very little that compares to our breathtaking, ever-changing backyard.
She has raised three grown daughters on this island and is now enjoying her recent empty-nest status with her husband Neil, living life one adventure at a time. She has been taking “pictures” all her life but in the past few years has been able to slow down and use her creativity to create “Photographs”. As a Photo-hobbyist, landscapes are her favorite subjects and she’s a sucker for a stunning cloud filled sunset! She enjoys the process of capturing an image and finds that the most rewarding part of photography is the discovery and knowledge behind each subject that she photographs, as well as the many people she meets along the way.

SAVE THE DATE: Children are invited to meet Santa at Cape Ann TV’s Annual Santa Party on Monday, December 9, 2013
Cape Ann TV will host its annual Santa Party on Monday, December 9 at 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cape Ann TV Studio located at 38 Blackburn Center in Gloucester. Children are invited to come to the studio and meet Santa Claus. Their meeting with Santa will be videotaped and shown on Cape Ann TV’s Channel 12 on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. This annual event is a free and open to the public.
As this is the season of giving, Cape Ann TV is a Project Uplift children’s toy and teen present collection site for families in need. Although it is not necessary to bring a gift, you may drop off a new unwrapped toy or new clothes for a child, or gift card for teens up to age 14.

Felicia Ciaramitaro Mohan to Speak at Pigeon Cove Circle on November 21
Felicia Ciaramitaro Mohan, known to her many followers as Sista Felicia, has written her first cookbook commemorates her family’s Sicilian traditions, lost recipes, and authentic dishes. Gifts of Gold: In a Sicilian Kitchen with Sista Felicia, begins with the end of summer and the harvesting of fruits and vegetables and celebrates all things autumn. On Thursday, November 21, Felicia will be the guest speaker at the Pigeon Cove Circle, providing an overview of how her cookbook was compiles from beginning to end.
Felica’s cookbook contains delicious foods, easy-to-follow step-by -step directions, how-to photos, and beautiful photography, Sista Felicia’s cookbook has also been carefully crafted to highlight beautiful Cape Ann. Thirteen recipes are accompanied by QR codes, which directly link the reader to Sista Felicia’s online how-to videos on her website, www.sistafeliciaskitchen.com[sistafeliciaskitchen.com].
The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a potluck buffet dinner and speaker at 7 p.m. Those attending the potluck dinner are welcome to bring an item for the buffet. There is no fee or pre-registration required. All are welcome attend enjoyable evening.
The Pigeon Cove Circle is located at Six Breakwater Avenue in Rockport. The Pigeon Cove Circle is made up of men and women throughout Cape Ann, a civic group who provide fund-raiser for community needs such a scholarships, and other needs on Cape Ann.
