If you want to set up a table with us, let us know ASAP. Tables are $20 each, we provide an 8ft table and plenty of promotion!  We have room for about 20 other vendors which is usually a mixed of dealers and first timers who sell items out of their attics, basements and garages! You never know what you’ll find at these sale, but one thing is sure: Gloucester and the Cape Ann area is rich in history and there are always a lot of great treasures to be had!

For our part, we’ll be featuring a LOT of art at this sale as we’ve landed a few big art buys recently! So expect to see some nice original oil paintings, prints, marine paintings, great frames and much more!

TOD Development Potential

I ran across this link to a MAPC study, browsing news for work. TOD or Transportation Oriented Developments are getting a lot of talk today and places like Melrose are already trying to capitalize on the idea. I thought to post the following link to the study  on GMG as the concept could be looked into for Gloucester and perhaps Beverly. The effort usually takes a zoning overlay district that allows mixed use developments and areas with strong connections to rail and bus systems. Not sure if anyone’s thinking along these lines already.

Follow this link to the MAPC (Metropolitan Area Planning Council) study of stations within the Metro area showing potential for development and capacity. Melrose has now proposed zoning changes in it’s Tremont/Essex Street Commuter Rail Corridor. Some of these include relaxed height restrictions allowing 4 stories, up from 2 stories, greater density, and broadened scope of allowed uses.  Great ideas for growth going forward with incorporation of public transportation as a foundation. http://bit.ly/1pWsmKY . If you haven’t heard or seen by now, this is what everyone has been clawing for. It was free at the Sox game yesterday. Serious collectors are going crazy for these suckers. I have to admit, it’s way more detailed and heavy than I expected. This is clearly not your average toy bobblehead.

Nice details with the dirty jersey, dirty hat, and golden cleats!

Run to Home Base- I Need your Help!

On Saturday, July 19th, I will be participating in the 5th annual Run to Home Base to help returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families heal the “invisible wounds” of war.  This is my first 9k! So far I can run a 5k, but I am willing to put in the dedication to train and run for our troops! I hope you can help me out in my fundraising journey by donating. Any amount counts. The City of Gloucester and the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce are working with Cruiseport on the preparations. Have a look at the list of fun things going on!

Many local businesses and organizations are expanding their hours –or coming in on their day off– just to engender a special welcome.

Let’s remember to thank and support our local establishments! Residents can shop, tour, and eat & drink, too…

When to open: by 10AM – 4PM (The first passengers will be coming ashore at around 9;30 and reaching downtown Gloucester by about 10AM.)

Open Door Empty Bowl Dinner is right around the corner

Hey Joey,

The Open Door Empty Bowl Dinner is right around the corner on Thursday, May 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cruiseport Gloucester. Can you let GMG readers know that they are invited to join us for an evening of food and hospitality?

The meal is simple—soup, bread and a cookie. Guests can choose and keep a soup bowl handcrafted for this community event. The bowl goes home as an unspoken reminder that somewhere someone’s bowl is empty.

Extra parking is available at Harbor Beach with complimentary trolley service to and from the event site. Tickets available at the door. $15 for adults and $10 for children under ten.

Empty Bowl events are held nationally to generate awareness concerning hunger and to raise money for local hunger-relief programs. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Summer Meals and Mobile Market programs.

Attached are a couple of photos of Silent Auction bowls that will be available that night!

Cape Ann Big Band Only Spring Concert – Saturday May 3rd

A Cape Ann Big Band concert is one of those rare treats that comes along only a couple of times a year — and this Saturday, May 3,  they’re going over the bridge (for their only spring concert this year) to Beverly’s fully restored, historic Larcom Theatre.  Come Swing into Spring with Cape Ann Big Band playing hits from the swing, soul, jazz, and rock’n’roll songbooks as well as show tunes and pop songs.
