Congratulations and hats off to Red Shed Film Festival producer and curator Henry Cooper, Rockport Exchange President Amy Rich, and Rockport Exchange Executive Director Sarah Kelly. Imagine, two years ago the festival was held in a tent, last year at the Rockport Library, and this year at the Shalin Lui!!

Playing on the large screen at the performing center were 12 stellar short films by local filmmakers including gems by Anthony Farenwald, Nubar Alexanian, Erich Archer, Rob Apse, Persistent Productions, Henry Ferrini, and more.

The 4th annual Red Shed Film Fest is a celebration of local and global filmmaking via a selected series of
short films. Mixing genres, this year’s entries span narrative, documentary, and short episodic pilots and
established series. As in years past, there is also a science-fiction entry and a music video. All in
attendance will have the opportunity to vote for the Audience Choice Award to be given to one of the
entries screened. The winner will be announced at the post-screening reception on the third floor of the
Shalin Liu Performance Center.

Henry Cooper Granite Visions New Short Film “Porcelain”

The short movie PORCELAIN, a bittersweet scene about a father battling dementia and reconnecting with his son, was created for the 24 Hour Film Race (www.filmracing.com). The story and production have to be completed in the 24 hour period and the story needs to include the three elements (theme: an unexpected guest, prop: a cookie, action: watering a plant). Pre-production work (prior to the 24 hour period) included location scouting, casting, building the crew, weekly meetings, and release forms. Starring Ariel Sargent, Topher Hansson, and Gordon Baird. Cast and crew hail from Gloucester, Rockport, and Worcester. Please enjoy!

The Red Shed Film Festival is part of the Motif No. 1 Day Rockport Arts Festival. Screenings will be held at the Peggy Brenner Room, Rockport Public Library, at 17 School Street.

The Brenner Room is on the second floor; take the main staircase and turn left at the top, take another left at the end of the hall and you’re there.
For the documentary shorts, there will be audience voting for the favorite first, second, and third places.

Marty Luster, James Eaves, Lisa Griffiths (That Nutty Redhead), John Grant, Kathy Chapman, and Charlie Caroll were just some of the guests attending Henry’s well-presented tutorial. Henry comes from a background of using Final Cut, Avid, and Adobe, which made his take especially informative and interesting on the (mostly) pros of using Adobe Premiere.

I’d love to hear from our readers on their experience with different editing programs, and why they chose the system they most frequently work with.

Getting Started with Adobe Premiere

Adobe Premiere Basics taught by Cape Ann TV’s Henry Cooper

 

(Gloucester, MA)– Cape Ann TV (www.capeanntv.org), a regional non-profit local access television station that serves all of Cape Ann, is pleased to announce the next learning experience in the popular “Lunch & Learn” series –Getting Started with Abode Premiere to be held on October 21, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Cape Ann TV (38 Blackburn Center, Gloucester MA 01930).

“The question of which editing platform to use is a common one,” said Erich Archer, Executive Director of Cape Ann TV. “Adobe Premiere has been generating a tremendous amount of interest recently and it’s time we open the hood and take a look.”

Here to guide us through the basics is Henry Cooper. Henry has a Graduate Certificate in Digital Video from Northeastern University and has worked as a Production Assistant with Rockport Music for 3 years.  He has a wonderful and informative presentation to help us navigate through getting started with Adobe Premiere.

The Red Shed Film Festival had a tremendous turnout Saturday night. Festival organizers Henry Cooper, Michael Kelly, and Phil Hopkins were there hosting the screenings, and did a fabulous job running the event. I had a wonderful time and plan to participate again next year. Dining al fresco under the cherry trees on Wally’s Bistrot’s super delicious barbeque and Twin Lights soda just added to the fun.

For the next few nights, I’ll post several of my favorite films screened at the festival. Some may have played previously on Good Morning Gloucester, but would be worth seeing again. I hope you enjoy them as much as did I!

The first film, To Hear the Music: The Opus 139 Project by Dennis Larson, is a nine-minute trailer to the larger project of the same name, and features our own Greg Bover!

The Opus 139 Project is an independent documentary film that tracks the progress of design and construction of a new pipe organ for Harvard University’s Memorial Church, built by the C.B. THE RED SHED FILM FESTIVAL AND BARBECUE ~ Coming This Saturday May 17th

The Red Shed Film Festival is a micro film festival featuring selected short films produced on Cape Ann, by Cape Ann filmmakers, with a focus on Cape Ann. Contributing filmmakers include Henry Ferrini and Kim Smith, along with videos produced by C.B. Fisk and Cape Ann TV.

The films range in subject matter from the creation of a C.B. Fisk pipe organ to local prominent writers and painters. Festival-goers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite film at the end of the evening.

Come for dinner and film screenings–Wally’s Bistro will be on hand from 5pm to 8:30pm offering pulled pork, mac ‘n’ cheese, and much more!

The Red Shed Film Festival takes place at Harvey Park, located in downtown Rockport (between High Street and Broadway) on Saturday, May 17, beginning at 7:00pm. The Film Festival is under the umbrella of Rockport’s annual Motif No.1 Day. The Red Shed Film Festival is produced in conjunction with Granite Visions Video Productions. Twin Lights Soda, a staple of summers on Cape Ann and manufactured in Rockport for over one hundred years, will be available during the screenings.
