Beverly, MA. M.E. Productions is excited to present The New Orleans Suspects with Little Feat’s Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett at the Larcom Theatre on Saturday, April 11th at 8pm. The Suspects are known as a NOLA supergroup, and Barrere & Tackett as multi instrumental jam pioneers. The night will culminate with a full set of the music of Little Feat. Tickets for this concert start at $35..
The New Orleans Suspects
Little Feat’s Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett
Music of the Big Easy. It’s as American as apple pie–and rock ‘n roll itself. It transcends boundaries, a freewheeling fusion of California rock, Dixie-inflected roots, and country-fried funk and boogie. For one night only, New Orleans Suspects will join forces with Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett of Little Feat. Don’t miss a rare and intimate show with the men who continue to bring you Little Feat(on an ‘ indefinite hiatus’), and a NOLA superband. Yep, we said it…superband.
The New Orleans Suspects formed in summer of 2011 in the wake of the breakup of The Radiators after 34 years. The band comprises some of the best, most highly respected players in New Orleans, including: Reggie Scanlan on bass (Radiators, Professor Longhair Band); Mean Willie Green on drums (Neville Bros. current drummer since 1981); Jeff Watkins (James Brown Band, Joss Stone Band) on saxophone; Jake Eckert on guitar/vocals (current member of The Dirty Dozen Brass Band); and CR Gruver on keyboards and vocals (Polytoxic, Outformation).
Paul Barrere plays a mean slide guitar, and sings lead and background vocals for Little Feat. He joined Little Feat for the band’s third album Dixie Chicken, and the rest is history with his guitar, vocals, and songwriting becoming an important part of the Little Feat sound. Fred Tackett plays guitar, trumpet, and mandolin for Little Feat. Hailing from Arkansas, Fred Tackett worked as a side man on many Little Feat albums before becoming a full member of the band for Let It Roll. Along with his fine guitar work, Fred’s mandolin and trumpet have become a featured part of the Little Feat sound. The duo first played together on the album ”Dixie Chicken” some thirty-five years ago.
The night will begin with a set from Barrere & Tackett, then The New Orleans Suspects will perform a full set of their own material. If that wasn’t enough, the two groups will join forces at the end of the night for a crowd pleasing set of Little Feat tunes.
“We have so many great shows on the North Shore…but we’re pretty excited about this one. It’sgoing to be FUN,” say Seth McNally of M.E. Productions. “If you like New Orleans music, or Little Feat, mark your calendar.”
Tickets to see NOLA Suspects with Barrere and Tackett are $30, $35, and $40 for premier seating. For tickets and more information visit www.larcomtheater.com or call 978-525-9093
Dave says,
This Thursday let’s welcome back Gloucester’s own Bobby Davis aka Johnny Carwash for another groovy night of surf toons and other related guitar ruminations. Bobby’s the best! With his effervescent style he’ll have you on the floor writhing with abandon. Along with David “Doc” Vincent on the skins, the circle is complete. We’ll be re-creating all your memories that were playing on your 8-track while you were losing your virginity. Don’t miss it!

I decided to shop “Harbor Loop Gifts,” located at the Building Center on Harbor Loop here in Gloucester for useful items to fill a nontraditional Easter Basket filled with my beloved Mariposa tableware! Harbor Loop Gifts has a wonderful assortment of collectable pieces from the Local “Mariposa” company’s product line, and is my go to store to purchase gifts of Mariposa for friends and family throughout the year! One of the great things about gifting Mariposa aside from the fact it always makes a perfect gift for any occasion, is that it’s sold at many different price points. I fell in love with the Starfish Salt & Pepper Set, Butter Dish and Trivet on display at the store. Below are a few photos of the Starfish pieces arranged in baskets that I prepared and brought with me to the store, to use as props to highlight a few gift basket ideas for last minute Easter shoppers!
If you’re still looking for a special gift basket idea, or special something to add to a loved one’s Easter Basket, or in need of a hostess gift for the chef preparing your Easter feast, stop by and check out the selection of Mariposa gifts available at Harbor Loop Gifts!

We celebrated an early Easter with my extended family last weekend, so our plans for this weekend are kind of minimal…which is really nice! I plan on clocking some time at the pool in the Aqua Room at Cape Ann Marina and Mile Marker One and hopefully taking some long walks in the woods and/or on the beach. Never forget how great it is to walk out at Halibut Point, Ravenswood, around Goose Cove, etc. Those destinations and more will be a future blog post when the weather gets just a tad bit better.
If you’re looking for something to do that screams “Easter” please don’t forget about last weekend’s pick about Appleton Farm’s Egg-cellent Easter Adventure! It is happening again this Saturday from 10-12 and sounds like a great time!

I love this place! While summer weekend visits are a no brainer…weekends such as this one are nice too because all the inside activities are open, but the weather is getting nice enough to walk around Odiorne Point State Park to explore and take in the gorgeous view too!

Welcome adorable chix!
Backyard Growers was kind enough to allow GMG to photograph Main Street’s newest residents (albeit temporary). There are four different families of chickens, with a triplet in each. The babies must be sold in groups of three because, as Meghan explained, when a new baby chicken is introduced to a flock, if they don’t come with their own posse, they may be bullied by the flock. The four chicken families are Rhode Island Reds, Silver and Gold Laced Wyandottes, Buff Orpingtons, and Easter Eggers, which lay blue eggs!
Buff Orpington is on the left, Easter Egger on the right (I think)
Lara and Meghan have named each family of chicks after a TV show, Downton Abbey and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for example, and each chicken is named after a character in the show. See Backyard Growers Facebook page to find out the names of the chicks and visit their beautiful new website for more information on the Cutest Fundraiser Ever!

Before noon yesterday, I had received numerous requests and inquire to purchase an “Easter Bunny Cookie.” Unfortunately because of the exorbitant costs to build and permit a commercial kitchen space I do NOT currently sell Sista Felicia Foods, and simply share my dishes and confections with family and friends. Hopefully in the near future an opportunity to hurtle this giant obstacle presents, enabling my cooked foods to be sold to the general public, but for now I continue to share my passion for food, tradition, and the gathering of family and friends with the public here on GMG. I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to and share my Step-by-Step recipes and personal experiences celebrating the three “F’s”, Family Friends & Food with the general public though my “Sista Dish” post daily on this website, created by my brother Joey.
I quickly turned yesterday’s frustrating morning of “sorry they are not for sale” into a fantastic afternoon, the moment I decide to whip up another massive batch of cookie dough,( my Italian Cookie Dough recipe is included below) and extended an open invitation “treating” the children of my family and friends with an opportunity come to my kitchen and bake a Bunny Cookie with me! Within hours an impromptu afternoon of baking Eater Bunny Cookies with all kids in and around my life was well underway! The afternoon couldn’t have been more perfect! As the word got out, three waves of kids between 3 and 6pm found their way over to my kitchen, to craft Easter Bunny Cookies, followed by daughter Amanda, Columbia tennis exchange student Laura, and mother Pat,who latter in the evening after tennis academy training and work made the 4th and final wave of bunny cookie makers ending yesterday’s baking extravaganza!
Several Easter Bunny Cookies left the kitchen with missing ears and feet…Maybe GMG Contributor Alicia Cox DeWolfe’s son, Tyler DeWolfe can explain?
