When the Bell Rings, Whack It!

BellRing5779wmAnd when you see actor Brian Cranston of “Breaking Bad” fame wearing a shirt like this, buy it… at Bananas. There are so many similar things in that TV series that ring true, like cancer and intense physical therapy (altho’ from gunshot wounds). What a fine day to bid farewell the expert radiologists at the Lahey Clinic, and to tell them how much I appreciated their hard work in the continuing effort in saving my life. Now monthly follow-ups.

If you are a striper fisherman, www.onthewater.com weekly striper migration map is striper gold

http://www.onthewater.com – Bookmark  and save it to your favorites,  watching week to week as the areas of yellow and red creep ever northward toward us is pretty cool.  I’m going to make some notes as to what things in nature on land happen at the same time and if it coincides with any type of pop in lobster landings.  What would be cool is if they super imposed average weekly water temps on the map to see exactly what effect that has.
Here’s the map from this week,  go the site and bookmark it to follow them from here on out-

A. Piatt Andrew Bridge Doors on Display at Cape Ann Museum

A. Piatt Andrew Bridge Doors on Display at Cape Ann Museum

Free admission for Cape Ann residents on April 18

GLOUCESTER, Mass. (April 10, 2015) – Two of four bronze doors from the granite faced pylons on top of the A. Piatt Andrew Bridge which brings Route 128 over the Annisquam River and into Gloucester are currently on display at the Cape Ann Museum. The doors were removed from the bridge late last year for much need conservation work and this will be the first time in over half a century that the public will be able to view the doors up-close.

Designed by sculptor John F. Paramino (1889-1956), the doors were cast at the T. F. McGann & Sons foundry in Boston in 1950. One honors the bridge’s namesake, A. Piatt Andrew (1873-1936), founder of the American Field Service, a U.S. Congressman from this district, director of the U.S. Mint and a long-time Gloucester resident. The second door celebrates the history of Cape Ann and in particular the fishing industry. John Paramino was born in Boston in 1889 to immigrant parents and studied modeling at the North Bennet Street School. He continued his studies under Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Bela Pratt and by 1916 had his own studio in Boston. Examples of Paramino’s public sculptures are scattered across Boston and include The Founders Memorial (1930) and the World War II Memorial in the Fenway (1947-1948).

Route 128, officially known as the Yankee Division Highway, was built between 1936 and 1958 on its current alignment as a bypass route around Boston. It was the first circumferential highway around a major U.S. city and now incorporates sections of I-93 and I-95. The A. Piatt Andrew Bridge is the crowning achievement of the decades-long Route 128 construction project and serves as a gateway to Cape Ann.

The Cape Ann Museum is pleased to offer Cape Ann residents free admission to the Museum on Saturday, April 18, in order that all may view the doors. In addition, the Museum will offer a narrated walking tour highlighting outdoor public sculptures in downtown Gloucester. The tour will be held on Saturday, May 23 at 10 AM. Tickets are $10 for Museum members and $20 for non-members. Space is limited, reservations are required. Reservations and tickets at (978)283-0455 x10 or info@capeannmuseum.org.

This project is a collaboration between the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the City of Gloucester and the Gloucester Committee for the Arts, and the Cape Ann Museum.

Mayor Romeo Theken Celebrates Lives Saved via Organ Donation Gloucester Celebrates April as Donate Life Month

731 lives saved in 2014 thanks to organ donation
MA Residents personally touched by donation will share their stories
image

Gloucester, MA – City Hall – On Tuesday April 21st at 10:30 AM, Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken and Senator Bruce Tarr will join individuals personally touched by organ donation and the New England Organ Bank, to celebrate organ and tissue donation and announce April as Donate Life Month in Gloucester, encouraging citizens to register as organ and tissue donors.

What: April as Donate Life Month in MA – Lives saved because of organ and tissue donation

Who:   Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken
             Senator Bruce Tarr
Gloucester residents personally touched by organ donation
            New England Organ Bank

Where: Gloucester City Hall, Kyrouz Auditorium

When:  Tuesday, April 21st at 10:30 AM

In 2014, 731 lives were saved here in New England because of the generosity of individuals who became organ donors.  Thousands more lives were enhanced through the gift of tissue donation.  With the need for life-saving transplants growing every day – over 123,000 patients are now on the US transplant wait list – it is crucial to educate our communities about taking action to register as donors. The celebration commemorates those who have received or continue to wait for lifesaving transplants as well as the families of individuals who chose to be donors.

There are now 110 million registered donors in the United States; still, the number of people in need of transplants continues to rise.  The solution to this problem is to continue educating the public about the lifesaving effects of donation and transplantation and encouraging them to sign up through their state donor registry.  “The state plays an important role in this process as vast majority of individuals in Massachusetts (99%) register to be an organ and tissue donor at the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV)”, stated Matt Boger of New England Organ Bank.

About New England Organ Bank: New England Organ Bank is the federally-designated, non-profit procurement organization responsible for the surgical recovery of organs and tissues for transplant throughout the New England region.  For more information and to register as a donor visit http://www.DonateLifeNewEngland.org

1980s hit-maker Martha Davis interview on 104.9 SUNDAY @ 9AM

This Sunday (4/19) at 9AM, Aurelia Nelson welcomes 80s rocker Martha Davis, founder of The Motels, to her North Shore 104.9 radio show “Curtain Up” for a spirited interview about what it’s like to be “the most charismatic female performer in rock,” as described by Robert Hilburn of The Los Angeles Times.

Martha Davis is credited with helping to define the New Wave sound that dominated MTV and pop radio in the 1980s.

But she’s not one of those rockers who’s satisfied to live off her prior success. She’s still writing new songs, recording new music and discovering new talent, like Boston Music Award Winner Ruby Rose Fox who opens The Motels show down the road at The Larcom Theatre on Wednesday (good seats still available, especially in the balcony — get them here.)

And she’s about to release a film of her live performance at the 50th anniversary of the famed Whisky-A-Go-Go, where she changed the face New Wave music forever.  Check out the trailer here:
