Got Soup? Today temperature’s are climbing back into the twenties! Practically a heat wave! With bone-chilling winter temperatures in New England, nothing says ‘comfort and warmth’ as much as a steaming bowl of soup. Soups are inexpensive, easy to make, delicious and nutritious. Explore recipes or get creative and make your own. One of my favorite winter standbys is my ‘chock-o-block’ vegetable soup, made with 10 different vegetables, potatoes, and a variety of beans. You can mix and match vegetables and spices in soup to your liking.
Serve soup steaming hot. Mix in some fresh greens at the last-minute for added nutrition. Add a hunk of warm bread on the side for added comfort. Enjoy!
Nutritional Value of Soup. Soups are often full of a variety of nutrient-dense vegetables, legumes, other fiber-filled ingredients, and spices offering great flavors, aromas and health-promoting nutrients in one bowl. *Avoid high salt…

Did you know it’s National Cheese Lover’s Day!? We’re not making this up – search the hashtag.
Now that you know about this glorious, ooey gooey holiday, you *of course* have to celebrate. Lucky for you, the folks at Minglewood Tavern have a plan. In addition to their already cheese-filled menu (hello Nacho Pile of Love and Pizza) the chef has added a few specials to pay homage to the best form of dairy, like Mozzarella Bites & Queso Dip.
Moral of the story: embrace your passion for Swiss, mozzarella, pepper jack, cheddar, American and goat – today is our day.
Ornithophily is the pollination of flowers by birds. Plants pollinated by birds generally have flowers with extra sweet, highly concentrated nectar. The blossoms are typically red or orange and have a long tubular shape, which allows them to hold ample amounts of the sugary sweet nectar. Birds that pollinate flowers, hummingbirds for instance, often have long bills, brushy-tipped tongues, and are light enough to perch on the flower, or display a form of flying called swing hovering, which allows them to drink nectar while suspended mid-air.
Nearly 130 species of North American plants have evolved ornithophilous associations. Bee balm, salvia, and native honeysuckle are examples of plants that are pollinated by both insects and birds.
THE POLLINATOR GARDEN ~ Please join me Tuesday, January 26th at 7:30 pm at the North Shore Horticultural Society, American Legion Hall, 14 Church Street in Manchester.
I hope to see you there!

Former members of The Jenny Dee and the Deliquidation Band, they know how to whoop it up. I’ve been busy trying to learn 347 new tunes. Just to keep up. See you then!”
