Hey Joey, I live in magnolia and frequent your blog.  Found a create washed up on south beach in Martha’s Vineyard with some strange looking creatures that appear to have made a home on the top of the lid.  Posted to Facebook to see if anybody could tell me what they were… No luck. Figured if anybody could identify them it would be you or one of the faithful GMG followers.  I would love to get some closure to this mystery.

OK I’m really really having a tough time with this.

Since the Bean was a couple months old she slept and put herself to sleep with her two binkies. One orange, and one pink.

The Mrs and I have been lamenting the day that we would have to take the binkies away because we figured that Ellie would never get to sleep without them, and the horror show it would be trying to get her to sleep.

Out of the blue last night she tells her mom that she wants to give her binkies to the fishies and lobsters down at daddy’s wharf.

So she came down and tossed them to the fishies without even batting an eyelash. What was supposed to be this trying time of transition into being a little girl from a baby happened in the blink of an eye.

And I’m pretty sad about it.

It’s the last thing of her being a baby, and there’s no turning back.

Whoa.

Due to a scheduling conflict, the Blues Festival has replaced Biscuit Miller with Mr. Nick and the Dirty Tricks.  These guys know how to rock.  Check them out here:

Now don’t let the hot summer weather and amazing amount of local entertainment (see schedule here) distract you too long.  You can only get $28 tickets to the Blues Fest until Aug 4.  After that they’re $40.  So get them NOW.

Critics say Gloucester Stage’s “Spring Awakening” is Better than Broadway

The thing about risk is that when it pays off, you end up with something far better than what you would have gotten had you gone the safe route and avoided the risk altogether.  But risk is scary and losing really sucks, so most people avoid it.

Last week, in this post, I congratulated Eric Engel and the Gloucester Stage Board for taking the risk to open their season with the controversial Broadway musical, Spring Awakening (the original play was banned), by saying that Eric had brought Broadway to Gloucester.

Well, as it turns out, Eric’s direction and the cast’s performances are so good that reviewers are proclaiming Gloucester Stage’s production BETTER THAN BROADWAY!  Check these out:

I love filming this event for several reasons; to capture the camaraderie and the hilarity, and mostly because of the the true grit and determined spirits of the Greasy Pole Walkers. It takes tremendous courage to walk and to keep trying. To all the Greasy Pole Walkers–may you all experience the glory of a win!

Fun At The Horrbles Parade Is Increased Multiple Times Over By Being In It!

St. Peter’s Fiesta Climax is full of music

Fiesta Sunday is the big day (see the schedule here).  This year one our local favorites, Cape Ann Big Band, kicks off the official Fiesta Sunday music from the St. Peter’s Park Stage at 3pm — and they have a terrific lineup of guest vocalists: Kate Barry, Mari Martin, Carolyn Seavey, and Steve Russo!  You just don’t want to miss this.  Here’s a taste of their talent from their first year of performing — and they get better every year!

Of course there’s music all day and into the night on Sunday all over Cape Ann — 16 live shows as of this posting.  Always check the complete live music listings for latest updates.

OK, if you haven’t heard Joe Wilkins, it’s time.  Don’t let his pleasant, unassuming personality fool you.  This guy is a powerhouse talent, whose songs paint vivid pictures in your head, so you might not notice just how good he is on guitar.  You can see him on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes tomorrow (WED) at 6:30pm on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.  Then bop over to Giuseppe’s and catch him live with Chris Langathianos.
