Cape Ann Amateur Radio Event
Hello to Good Morning Gloucester ,
My name is Dean Burgess and I am a member of the Cape Ann Amateur Radio Association here in Gloucester.I noticed you put a picture of me in one operating ham radio at our clubhouse of your daily blogs back last year. Our club is going to hold an outdoor amateur radio demonstration for the public and we would like to invite you to come by and take some pictures, video and write an artcile for your website if you wish. The event is called “Field Day” and it happens every year on the last weekend in June.It is where all the amateur radio operators go out an operate outside for 24 Hours straight. The purpose of this event is to promotre amateur radio to the public as well as an emergency communications exercise as we operate on generator power-we also give the public a chance to talk with someone across the world.I think that this would be something different that your website viewers would like to see.In this day of technology we would like to show the public that this is not your grandfathers radio anymore as we use computers to operate in digital modes and we talk to satellites. If you would like to see more you can go to our website at www.caara.net . This event starts at 2 PM on Saturday June 26th and runs 24 hrs until 2 PM the following sunday June 27th.I know that it is fiesta weekend but if it would be possible to fit into your schedule we would appreciate it.This event will be at the James Babson Cooperage Museum Field which is at the Gloucester/Rockport Line on RT 127. If you have any questions you can e-mail me back.Sincerely
Dean Burgess

Thinking of Cezanne, from Deb Clarke
From, deb Clarke;
Here’s a quick recap of my Memorial Day on East Main. Here are 2 pics: one is my reference material looking down on Joey’s docks across to the State Fish Pier with the city and western shore in the far distance, with a bit of green in the sky caused by the Canadian woodfires’ haze. I’ve been thinking alot about Cezanne and how he made plane changes in his paintings. Cezanne wanted to create a painting with the solidity of a sculpture. He didn’t rely on a directed light to illuminate objects; instead, he emphasized the form and organization of the picture plane through the direction of his stroke and color changes. The light seems to come from ‘within Cezanne’s paintings’. In my work in progress I’ve paid particular attention to the way planes meet. My space is getting a bit wonkie, and I am very interested in the spot that is in the very center of my painting.
best,
deb
ps: I will put work up on the wall as often as my time and weather permits!

Deb’s “Wall of Art” can be seen if your driving on East Main St. towards Bass Ave, on the right side of the road between Capt. Joe’s Lobsters (Joey’s place) and Zeke’s Restaurant.

Live At The Paint Factory With CK and Ian Kerr
Under Carolyn Kirk’s administration two out of three major long stymied parcels have had actual forward progress take place- I4C2 and the Paint Factory. Mac Bell buying The Birdseye parcel shows promise as well and if the administration and councilors can see the benefit of moving The Cape Ann Brewery into the Doyon’s building it will be quite an accomplishment.

Lily’s Secret Strawberry Pie
Happy Memorial Monday all. Hope you have had a glorious day filled with remembering those who have served and are serving our Country.
I was hoping to have a recipe for you from a new episode of Inspired Cooking today but due to technical difficulties, the new show will air next week. In the meantime, Lily and I thought you might enjoy this recipe, Lily’s Secret Strawberry Pie–the perfect recipe to use the native strawberries that are so terrific right now!
We made the video a few weeks ago for Kiwi Magazine’s Next Young Chef contest (which explains the brand names next to the ingredients) and fingers crossed that she does well and wins one of the big prizes! Here is the recipe and video.
Be sure to leave a comment on the youtube page or here and let Lily know what you think!
And here is the recipe:
Lily’s Secret Strawberry Pie
For the crust:
25 chocolate wafers cookies
1/4 Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Sugar
5 tablespoons melted butter
3 oz Endangered Species All Natural Milk chocolate, finely chopped
Combine cookies, Organic sugar and melted butter in the food processor. Process until fine crumbs form. Press into 9” pie plate. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, sprinkle on chopped milk chocolate and bake for 2 more minutes until chocolate is softened. Remove crust from oven. Using a pastry brush, paint melted chocolate over the bottom of crust. Place crust in refrigerator until cooled and chocolate is hardened.
For the filling:
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups light cream
¼ cup cornstarch
1/2 cup Wholesome Sweeteners Organic granulated sugar
2 large organic eggs plus one egg yolk, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon Nielson-Massey vanilla extract
Pinch salt
In a large microwave safe bowl, whisk together heavy cream, light cream and cornstarch until smooth. Stir in sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and salt.
In the microwave on 100% power, cook custard mixture for 11-13 minutes, depending on the strength of your microwave, pausing to stir the custard at 5 minutes and every one minute thereafter until thickened. Refrigerate until cooled.
To assemble pie:
6-8 large strawberries, thinly sliced, plus one strawberry for the top of the pie
1 oz shaved Endangered Species Milk chocolate, shaved
When ready to assemble pie, spread sliced strawberries over chocolate coating on pie crust. Spoon custard over strawberries and spread until level. Sprinkle shaved chocolate over the custard and top with remaining strawberry. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

sunrise, moonrise
Thursday I was off Woods Hole heading to where large fluke like to be reeled off the bottom. Last night we had panko fried fluke fillet with french fries. Tonight we have a sea bass that liked my fluke bait.
Heading there at dawn this is Nobska point on the left, Martha’s Vineyard on the right and a ferry in between. A cold front was backing in from the east making the clouds stack up at dawn.

Last night from Andrews Point the moon rose just to the left of the Sandy Bay breakwater. The green and red lights are on either end of the breakwater. Maybe 10:10PM tonight but looks a little too cloudy right now.
In real life I could see the lady, not the rabbit, or the old man:

Pros: Lightweight, Folds Small, Excellent Value, Good Stability, Great Design, Unfolds Quickly
Best Uses: Video, Macro Photography, Tight Quarters, Low Light, Travel, Night Shots, Portraits, Landscape/Scenery
Describe Yourself: Photo Enthusiast
I photo and vblog blog so having a portable camera at all times is critical. I can leave this attached to my Sony DSC H20 and still keep it in my pocket. For night time shots with long exposures it holds the camera securely. This is not to replace your full scale completely adjustable tripod but for the very little cost to be able to take macro shots in poorly lit areas or conduct impromptu interviews it is fantastic and must have IMO. I have an example of the unboxing and a video I took of it in my review here- https://goodmorninggloucester.wordpress.com/2010/05/28/lobster-vs-crab-filmed-using-manfrotto-modopod/

Signs of Summer Part IV
Yeah:
1) Just drove onto the island and four beautiful lanes open over the Andrew Piatt.
2) Lunch at the Cupboard with a small order of onion wings. Small is plenty.
Nay:
1) The gender signs for the Rockport Information booth are not up yet.
2) Lattof Farm stand is not selling fresh Monkey Bread in the morning yet.
I want a four for four yeah!! sometime this weekend.
And just one word of warning as you have fun this three day weekend. The weather is very warm but the water is still a bit nippy. If you are going to go kayaking jump in the water first and then think about how much effort it would take to get back in your kayak and pump it out while being immersed in chilly water. You want to kayak only where you can easily figure out a way to get out of the water faster than fifteen minutes. Wear a life jacket and dress for the water, not the balmy weather. Tell someone where you are going. And have fun.
I went fishing all day off Woods Hole yesterday and I am always learning something new.
New rule: if you cut your hair short and go out on a boat all day make sure you put sunblock on the top of your ears. Ouch!
