Summertime in Gloucester – its time for a party!

Thursday, July 10th marks the launch of the 41st Harbor Loop Concert Series. This is the perfect event for music-loving folks of all ages and the fun-loving musicians who enjoy playing for their hometown crowd.

Concert organizer Bradley Royds proclaims “The kick-off acts are sure to cause unbridled happy-feet and impulsive head-bobbing.” Jake Pardee will open at 6:30pm, and Mamadou will hit the stage from 7:45pm until 9:00pm.

Headliner, Mamadou, is well-known for whipping up original world-fusion rhythm and reggae based music. The band is comprised of a variety of well known Boston based musicians, featuring multiple percussion players and Pardee as lead guitarist. Royds adds “Jake is fantastic and he will knock it out of the park before Mamadou does the same.”

Lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and coolers are all welcome in the park. A variety of food and beverage vendors will be on-site. As the sun sets over Gloucester, come enjoy the music while overlooking the scenic-historic Inner Harbor from the hillside of Fitz Hugh Lane Park.

The Harbor Loop Concert Series is totally kid-friendly, and the park offers an environment that is safe for the whole family. Shows are every Thursday in July and August, 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Please go to http://www.harborloop.com for further information and for notice of cancellation in the event of rain.

Linda rae castagna Has Some Nice Things To Say

Linda rae castagna submits-

There was no way that lobster was going to cooperate with our GOOD MORNING MILFORD card.  Thank you again for the inspiration to do GOOD MORNING MILFORD Facebook page for our merchants in Milford on the Delaware, New Jersey (the other Jersey shore).  It has brought a special feeling to our little town and valley, especially when people share the card all over the world like your followers of GMG.

Wanna Race Our FOB- 53 Year Old Lindle Willnow?

Remember the movie The Color Of Money where Tom Cruise hustles his way through the pool circuit?

Well I think we just may have landed the perfect horse to bet on- our boy Lindle.

Unassuming, old, not particularly in any type of ectomorph runners body shape and the absolute perfect man to back with odds against these young hot shot runners.

So we’ll just trot out our Horse Lindle, take odds against the youngsters and clean up when he kicks their butt all over the place!  Winking smile

Our boy Lindle laid an absolute beat down, finishing 12th out of 218 runners at age 53!!!

To me that was a seriously impressive feet.  Almost as impressive as TJ finishing and winning a whole 2 and a half minutes before the second place finisher.

But the story in this post isn’t about TJ’s extraordinary race as a 34 year old in the prime of his life.  It’s about 53 year old Lindle Willnow and how he showed that you don’t have to be a 20 or 30 year old elite physical specimen to compete, you just gotta get out there and do it!

Congratulations Lindle, from all your GMG buddies we are seriously proud of you!

On Behalf of Pathways for Children and Myself ~ Thank You to the Beautiful Manchester Garden Club Ladies!!!

Manchester Garden Club at Pathways ©Kim Smith 2014After months of planning and coordinating, this week we installed the new butterfly garden at Pathways for Children. We’ll be bringing you more updates from the garden but I wanted to first thank our super hard-working, fabulous and fun, beautiful team of volunteers from the Manchester Garden Club. We planted the garden in record time due to their can-do-attitudes. Thank You Ladies–you were simply the BEST!!!

And, success! As Bernie Romanowski, the facilities director, and I were tidying up, not one, but two butterflies stopped by to investigate the new garden, a Cabbage White and a Canadian Tiger Swallowtail. I wished our volunteers had seen that. Plant and they will come!

BREAKING NEWS: Stage Fort Park Trolley Shuttle is BACK!

Stage Fort Park Trolley Shuttle

We just got word from Bob Ryan at CATA that, since the Blynman Bridge weight restriction has been lifted, he was able to scramble and get the Stage Fort Park Trolley Shuttle up and running starting on June 21!  See the trolley schedule here.  This is excellent news for everyone who drives in Gloucester during summer weekends because it means fewer cars — as well as anyone who benefits from tourists coming to Gloucester (which is just about everybody who lives and/or works here as I explain in this post).

Way to go Bob!
