Gloucester’s Kingsley Flood, Rhumbline, Saturday, June 4th.

Kingsley Flood describe themselves as an Americana band that “draws as much from Woody Guthrie and the Band as it does Joe Strummer and the Replacements.”

Kingsley Flood’s latest recording titled “I Don’t Wanna Go Home” was recently featured on NPR’s  “Song of the Day” , and the K-Flood does indeed rock.  They have a devoted allegiance of fans in Gloucester who pack the Rhumb Line everytime. The band’s lead guitarist, George Hall, has lived in Gloucester for 10 years, after many years of rocking Boston in former bands Dogzilla and Seks Bomba.  Kingsley Flood will be playing at the Rhumb Line Saturday, June 4th, three sets. It’s a great experience to see them close up, the tiny room explodes with rocking wild abandon. Great new track…but also worth checking out the first album Dust Windows, for which Kingsley Flood won “Best New Artist of the Year” at the 2010 Boston Music Awards. They also have many videos posted on YouTube including a killer version of another new song, “Mannequin Man” as performed live at TT the Bear’s in Cambridge.

Local Music Seen Get’s Their Stuff Online. First Up, The Bandit Kings!

Peter Van Ness Writes-

Dear Joey,
You’ve been telling me since December that we JUST HAD to get the Local MusicSeen shows on the Web.  Well, we finally got our first archive video published thanks to the help of our very talented and resourceful Web editor Jon Cooney.
See it here  http://localmusicseen.com/BanditKings.cfm

In order to make it work best on the Web, Jon cut it into 3 parts.  I’ve published all 3 on a single page so you can watch the entire show at once if you like.

We picked The Bandit Kings show for our archive debut for several reasons — some technical — but mostly because it’s a SUPERB SHOW!  Performances are stellar; the energy reaches through the screen and grabs you; songwriting is inspired — and they look so good on camera!

Hope you enjoy it — and remember, Joey, when you speak we listen!

See what Dave has to say,

A busy one, so, let’s get goin’! This Thursday  at the Rhumbline  we’re proud to present that Tootin’ Torquemada of the Tenor: Mr. Andrew Clark. He’s  got some new toonz for us to do. I’m willin’ and able. Backing him up will be that irrrepressible Irish Cream of a drummbler, Mr. Benny Benson. Greg T. and myself will fill out the wasteline.

Now, on Friday nite, It’s the Season Premiere of The Geezerz, aka Dave Sag’s Atomic Cocktail at the Studio on Rocky Neck. Last year, we chased out all the termites with our rousing renditions of all our unpopular blooz tunes. That’s Dave Brown, Dave Mattacks, Greg Tower, and  myself. We hope to continue the tradition this year, so, c’mon down!  We start at 9 pm, go to midnite.

Last and least, next Monday nite, I’ll be limping in to Captain Carlo’s for a fabulous evening of classic jazz ,dixieland, blues, and the Great American Schlongbook with my fave musical buddies, The Good Old Salty Jazz Band. There’s probably 7 or 9 of us, I’m not really sure, and Mark Earley and Myself are the youngest members, though it’s hard to tell sometimes. YOU SHOULD BE THERE: THIS IS IMPORTANT. You don’t know what you’re missing. Aaah, a warm evening, groovey jazz, and cocktails on the deck; what could be better… Start time is 6:30 and we go to 9:30, so all you old farts have no excuse for dozing off and missing all the fun!

Thursday night blues party with Dave

Dave writes,

This thursday’s Rumline show features our own homegroan musical prodigy, Mr. Dave Brown, the systolic Svengali of  sliiide glitarrh. Always a pleasure. He’s bringing his entire bungee cord collection, too. Unfortuately his (and our) companion zygote Mr. Dave Mattacks had to cancel after suffering setbacks from some elective surgery. Luckily, Mr. Steevee Chaggaris, with the napalmolive hairdo, is ready to fill some mighty big shoes. Look for him on the eggbeaters, cackling away. As usual, Greg T. and myself fill out the waistline.
They say summer’s coming: It’s Mammorial Day Weakend. and to get you off to a good start, The Madfish Grill proudly presents MADHOUSE this Friday nite. We’re gonna boogie! John Keegan and his ants are ready to crawl up your leg all night long! Start  scratching!

Good News From The Bandit Kings

Ah, Bandits…we meet again.

What’s the Good Word?
• Tonight Friday, May 13: In honor of superstitious musicians everywhere, The Bandits are getting in cars, driving up the highway, and not stopping until they hit Portsmouth, NH. More precisely, they are not stopping until they reach the Dolphin Striker’s Spring Hill Tavern. There they will stop, unload the cars, set up some mics and stands, plug in a guitar a bass AND a keyboard, then they will stand up and play their sweet sweet rock n roll. All night. (9pm, free).

• THEN, NEXT THURSDAY, May 19 is a dream come true: That’s right. next Thursday is the night that seminal indie-rock legends, pApAs fritAs finally re-assemble in all their glory to play the Rhumbline in Gloucester, MA. They are playing TWO shows in America before they go play some big important festivals in U-ROPE. They are playing ONE show on the North Shore and it will be, at most $2 to get in. That’s if the bar charges at all. The fritAs will play this show sandwiched between two other bands that play good songs: pretty power pop rascals—The BFs, and cowpunk heart stoppers—The Bandit Kings. You’ll want to say you were there. And get there early, seating is going to be a doozy.

• Oh and we got some new press! Boston Band Crush liked our single, GoGoGo…When someone tells us to “GoGoGo,” we usually expect to be in a warzone and have grenades or thermal detonators exploding all around us. Now the problem with this is that the Bandit Kings are going to get your ass killed in the warzone. No, I don’t think we’d have any problem with them being reliable soldiers, but their version of “GoGoGo” is so easily enjoyable that you might pause to look around and savor the blue sky or an attractive patch of grass on the ground and get yourself blowed up by the enemy. But you’ll be happy, right? Read the rest here (go on, press it. You know you want to).

The Bandit Kings are:
Renee Dupuis on lead vocals and keys, Ann Marie, also on lead vocals, Dennis Monagle on drums, Joe Cardoza on bass, and Dan King on lead guitar. The Bandit Kings’ play original tunes written by the band members and hot b-sides by classic artists for longer shows. They have found bare-bones musical chemistry, including the rich meld of vocalists Ann Marie and Dupuis, who “both have voices that bring us back to the dawn of country rock, whisky soaked and raspy in just the right places while never crossing into the overpowering. The song is a rare treat that could have been tossed aside as a boring anachronism in less capable hands.” -Boston Band Crush
