Congratulations GMG Ticket Winner to a gimmeLIVE Summer Concert

Congratulations to Diana Long, who won our GMG text to win contest for 2 tickets to the gimmeLIVE summer concert of her choice.  Diana chose Chris Isaak with Chelsea Berry opening.  (Click here if  you missed yesterday’s post with one of Chelsea’s most touching songs.)

There’s still time to enter our contest to win a VIP upgrade  (see VIP details here).  You can’t buy a VIP upgrade, but you can win it.  Just sign up for the gimmeLIVE Concert Club (click here, it’s free) and you’ll automatically be entered into a drawing to win 2 FREE VIP UPGRADES to the concert of your choice.  All you need is 2 regular tickets and you and your honey can go as VIPs!  The winner will be chosen on Friday.  Good seats are still available, but they are going fast.  Get tickets here.

Now for some sad news.  The great Doc Watson died yesterday.  His playing influenced a generation of guitarists, including one of Gloucester’s best, Allen Estes, who knew both Doc and his late son Merle.   I saw Doc with other greats including Bill Monroe several times in Bean Blossom Indiana in the 70s.  Here’s a video of Doc with Earl Scruggs, Ricky Skaggs & Alison Krauss.  Enjoy!

There are plenty of choices for live music tonight and many of them might be willing to play a Doc Watson tune if you request it.  See full music lineup here.

Her new electric band rocks, but it’s her voice that wraps itself around your heart and won’t let go

Yes, we’ve been touting Chelsea Berry‘s new electric band lately (see this post, for example)  But it’s really her voice that captures you.  Watch this video and see what we mean.  Allen got goose bumps listening to this song when we shot Local Music Seen a couple of weeks ago.  You can see the entire show tomorrow at 6:30pm on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.  The show features a new song by Allen Estes and a new song by Chelsea.  Plus she closes with one of my favorites.

And you can see Chelsea with her new band open for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre on June 28.  This will be the first time Chelsea’s new band performs in public and the only Boston area Chris Isaak concert this year.  Don’t wait until it’s sold out.  Get tickets now.

It’s Tuesday in Gloucester.  Just in case you missed last Tuesday’s admonition, check it out here.  OK, now that you’re convinced to go out, click here to see tonight’s full music lineup.

Neville Brothers Aaron & Charles make only one New England appearance this year

If you ever wondered why the Nevilles are known as New Orleans’ first family of funk, this video tells the story.  It was shot at Jazz Fest 3 weeks ago.  You can see Aaron with his brother Charles on sax plus the quintet at North Shore Music Theatre on June 30 (get tickets here or you can try to win tickets here).  This is their only concert in the Northeast U.S. this year (they recently returned from a wildly successful tour of Japan).

Opening for the Nevilles will be Gloucester’s favorite New Orleans transplant Henri Smith, who is assembling an all-star band for this performance.  June 30 will be a night you won’t soon forget.

There’s music all day today — it’s going on right now and will continue into the night.  You can get to most of it because the shows are spread fairly evenly throughout the day and evening.  If you start now you could take in 8 free shows (see the full music schedule here).  Where else on Earth could you do that in a friendly environment surrounded by water, beaches and one of the world’s most beautiful harbors?

Groove @ MinglewoodAtLat43 tonight!

LAST MINUTE GIG ALERT!! TONIGHT at MingleWood Tavern the Groove will rock your Sunday funday…. keep your Memorial weekend going with some funky rock & reggae jams…..We start at 9pm…..bring your buzz-on!

Allen & Dylan Estes ~ Father & Son make a special appearance at Giuseppe’s Sunday at 6pm

Here’s something you don’t see (or hear) every day — father & son performing  together with voices that blend this beautifully.  In this video, Allen & Dylan Estes sing one of Allen’s classic songs on his show Local Music Seen.  Tomorrow (Sunday) you can see them at Giuseppe’s — and they’re even better live!  You might want to call ahead to be sure you get a seat.  Music starts at 6pm.  Take your kid(s) and get inspired.

Now for tonight.  It’s time to get out and DANCE!  Gloucester is HOT tonight with all kinds bands ready to ROCK!  Take your pick or try to fit them all in.  Whew!  Check out the hot music lineup here.

You know it’s the Summer season on Cape Ann by the weather (trust me, it will be very nice tomorrow) and by the fact that tonight you have a dozen choices for live music.  See full music lineup here.  And it gets even better going into the long holiday weekend.

Whether or not you supported the wars, let’s honor those who “gave the last full measure of devotion” to preserve our freedom by supporting those who express that freedom  through their music.

The Conservatory @ The UNADULTERATED Cabaret~Check it out.

‘The Conservatory’ at The Cape Ann (“The Annie”) is a no-cost professional arts training program for Cape Ann youth, ages 13-21, bridging them to adult mentors who are working in the fields of theatre, dance, music, poetry, comedy, design and tech. ‘The UnAdulterated Cabaret’ is their debut performance project. It opens tonight and runs every Sunday night, year-round. You’ll be blown away!

“Without cover of the night would you still be the light he is drawn to?”

Any doubt that Chelsea Berry is one of Cape Ann’s finest songwriters will be vanquished by her haunting new tune.  Chelsea uses the first TV performance of this song to show off her powerful, dramatic, versatile voice.  Then she reveals how she wrote the song, proving that  Livingston Taylor was right when he said, “A voice of remarkable power and control with a joyous soul. Brave and bright, Chelsea Berry is the real thing.”  Watch the video and see what we mean.

You can see Chelsea open for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre on June 28 with her new band.  Imagine the electric version of this song!

Lots of opportunities to start the weekend early tonight from solo acoustic to open mic to DJ to Rock, Reggae and more.  See the full music lineup here.

Another new song by Allen Estes ~ perfect for the summer kick-off!

He’s on a roll, folks.  Every week we hear a new Allen Estes song — and they keep getting better too!  This gem is featured on Local Music Seen TONIGHT at 6:30 on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.  Chelsea Berry is Allen’s guest on this week’s show — and she has a beautiful new song too — must be something in the air!

If case you forgot, Chelsea will be opening for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre on June 28 with her new band — and they ROCK.  Imagine Chelsea’s powerful voice soaring over a rockin’ new band.  This will be the first time you can see them together on a magical night in an intimate listening venue with perfect sound.  Tickets are selling fast, so don’t wait until the last minute — get tickets here.

Sun’s out today.  Seven shows tonight.  Summer’s here in spirit.  Check out the music lineup here.

Don’t take these guys for granted

… just because you can see them every Tuesday at Jalapenos.  They are some of the best musicians on Cape Ann.  And once in a while guests show up and sit in.  Last week it was Allen Estes.  You never know what will happen.

Yesterday we published a clip from Celebrate Gloucester 2010 and people asked for more.  Here it is.  It’s KBMG Electric and they ROCK!

Now if you can’t get into Jalapenos to see these guys tonight because it’s too crowded, there are other choices.  And if you’ve never seen Henley Douglas, Jr, you should really go down to the Rhumbline at 10 and check him out.  See full music lineup here.

Want to work in the Concert Business?

We need help.  You probably know that we’re producing a new concert series at North Shore Music Theatre this summer featuring top local talent on stage with national recording stars (more info here).

As you can see from this video (taken from the Celebrate Gloucester DVD) concerts are a lot of work — and we do EVERYTHING, from dreaming up the idea to organizing talent, lights, sound, staging porta-potties … to convincing someone to purchase a VIP ticket when he wasn’t planning on it (you can see that in the video) to designing, printing and hanging posters to … well you get the idea.

So, if this looks like fun to you and you’re willing to work as hard as we do, we’ve got a job for you.  And it pays.  20 hours a week to start.  Full time later this year.  You need lots of energy, just the right amount of ambition, a love of live music, brilliant communication skills (texting doesn’t count) and fairly thick skin.

If this sounds like you, we’ll have a lot of fun together!  Call Vickie or Peter at 978-525-9093 or click here to contact us.

It’s Monday.  That means Bandit Kings host an open jam @ Rhumbline.  Always a good time.  Big music week here on Cape Ann.  You can’t get to everything so check out the full week’s music lineup and start thinking about where you want to go.
