Gift from the Sea

Fred Bodin submits-

Noah Willett landed a 28.5 inch “football fat” striper. As Marty Luster said on GMG, this is The Gift. Your children will treasure these experiences as long as they live, and then pass them on to your grandchildren. You think this young man will ever forget this? Well, read Marty’s post: https://goodmorninggloucester.wordpress.com/2012/07/29/the-gift/ Noah is 8. He looks so proud it could break your heart. The charter boat is owned by Vito Demetri, AKA “The Striper King,” Captain of the F/V Pavilion, out of Gloucester. Noah’s father Peter says that Vito’s rates are very reasonable. Where did Capt. Vito drop the hook? Outside (the breakwater) is all I can say. Most pro fishermen won’t reveal the exact location of where they hit the “money fish.” But I will tell you where the fish are: “In the water!”

Caleb Willett landed this 31″ striper. Don’t he look proud? Older brother Caleb is 11 years old. His parents, Peter and Leah Willett, have raised two outstanding children. Parents Peter and Leah Willett are long time customers, and his birthday is July 28th, same as Jackie and me.

Spiral Jetty

Brace Cove gloucester ©Kim Smith 2013 copy

One of my favorite artists is Robert Smithson (1938-1973), and I especially love his seminal earthwork Spiral Jetty, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and created in 1970. The Brace Cove Sculptor created a mini-spiral jetty at the high tide line the other day, and it was fun to be reminded again of Smithson’s Spiral Jetty.

Spiral Jetty is an earthwork sculpture made from rock and earth and is located on the northern end of the Great Salt Lake. Three new guardians are working to protect and promote the Spiral Jetty, and they are Dia Art Foundation, based out of New York City, the Great Salt Lake Institute, and the Utah Museum of Fine Art. For more information visit Siral Jetty.

Amistad From Mary Barker

Hi Joey

The Amistad’s captain, Greg Bailey, was gracious enough to allow me onboard to take some photos.

2 of his crew, Whitney and Scott, were kind to give me a tour and some education.  The Amistad is such a

gorgeous historical boat, in such a wonderfully historic port.  She is absolutely a must see while she is visiting.

The Amistad is docked on the Harbor Loop at the Maritime Center, near the Ardelle.  Here are a few photos.

Dead–Tired Blogging from the Gloucester Sidewalk Bazaar

The Sidewalk Bazaar was swarmed on the last day, as expected. It’s fun, fairly profitable, and exhausting.

My potter Dave Matthews made a timely delivery of his mugs for the Bazaar. These are discounted at $10 each. Mohawk Trail mug anyone?

Laura Jardullo shows off her balloon dress, which she bought at the Dress Code. Laura was selling her headbands in front of the gallery. Photo taken with her iPhone.

Diana Long of Gloucester gets snaked at the Cape Ann Vernal Pond booth at Bazaar www.capeannvernalpond.org. Doing the snaking is Alice the boa constrictor. Alice the boa wanted to snake me too, but I demurred.

BazaarDiana

Great day at the Bazaar! City Councilor Melissa Cox asked if I’d collect donations for the Gloucester Fireworks Fund. Here, Phil Krone of Burlington, VT contributes. I now keep the container in the gallery for future donations. Come visit, say “hi,” and donate, even if it’s a dollar!

Black Crowned Bookends

Hi Joey,

I found a pair of Black Crowned Night Herons hunting together off of Rocky Neck the other night.  These guys are great hunters and you can hear them squawking loudly as they hunt in the dark.

Enjoy!
