Drew Hale Talks About The Brand-
On Saturday it started to feel a lot like Christmas. We had large flakes of snow falling, I started playing holiday tunes in the gallery, the Lobster Trap Tree was lit, and a beautiful floral arrangement was delivered to the gallery. It’s a gift from Sharon StClair and husband Chuck King of Florida. It was given to me and the “GMG Gang,” and will be the centerpiece of the gala GMG Holiday Party on December 19th. They love Cape Ann, are Friends of the Gallery, of Good Morning Gloucester, and are my friends. I wish them a very happy Christmas.

Dr. Silvester R. Smith, DPM has announced his retirement as Podiatrist, ending a 60-year career.
Dr. Smith started his practice in 1954 at 1 School Street in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He ran his business solely as Podiatrist, Receptionist and Accountant. He had many long-time patients where he developed friendly relationships and looked forward to their visits to catch up on their family and happenings in their lives. When he was not in his office, he was making house calls at many local area nursing homes.
Dr. Smith experienced a setback on in December 2008 when the Lorraine Building, where his office was situated, was consumed by fire. Although a disheartening event, he was quick to find another location at 199 Main Street in Gloucester where he has practiced the last 6 years. He enjoyed the new location as there were frequent walk-ins and lots of activity.
Dr. Smith and his wife reside in West Gloucester. He is well known in the Gloucester community. He looks forward to participating in local events such as the annual Fishtown Horribles Parade. Of the 14 times he participated walking the parade route, his favorite was the year he walked twice, once in the AMVET contingency, and then again following the parade theme “Toys of the 20s” where he pedaled his 1920s era scooter. Dr. Smith also participates in the annual ceremonies and parades each May and November in honor of the Veterans and proudly wears his uniform from his term in the U.S Army Air Corps.
Dr. Smith’s retirement takes effect January 1, 2015 where he will spend more time with family and friends and enjoying his countless hobbies including general farming activities, raising chickens, gardening, woodworking, reading, writing and creative projects.

I’ve never seen the lobster trap tree lighting, but today I was determined. After the 5pm lighting, I walked to the nearby bus stop, and was ten minutes early. Twenty minutes after the pickup time, still waiting, cold and shivering with my walker, I hobbled back to the gallery. What to do? I called Gloucester Taxi (978-283-0099) for a ride home to Rockport. It cost $11 plus tip ($5). I had a nice and smooth ride with driver Scott. Although CATA is 99% reliable, keep a $20 bill in your wallet, along with the Gloucester Taxi business card.
Tonight at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre, Gloucester’s Henri Smith releases his first CD in a decade (recorded live at the Larcom in March) with a concert celebration that will, of course, include dancing a traditional New Orleans Second Line parade in the aisles.
Vickie and I produced the CD and Vickie designed the CD case and disc.
This will be your last chance to get your CD signed by Henri and the band before the holidays. Very good seats still available in the balcony (here) and a few good seats also left in the orchestra (here).

Tomorrow morning Allen Estes & Charlie Farren are Aurelia Nelson’s guests on her 104.9 show Curtain Up at 9am (Worth getting up for!)
You get to hear a new song and a taste of the Solstice experience you can expect next Saturday 12/20 when they perform with young, rising Boston Blues star, Danielle Miraglia in a benefit for Gloucester’s UU Church Meetingbouse Restoration. This will be a festive night of original rock, blues and Americana music with a few traditional holiday sing-along favorites. Tickets are still available. Get them here.
My favorite holiday decorations this year were on the Beauport Ambulance at Addison Gilbert Hospital’s “Lights of Love” cancer care fundraiser. Beauport was the major sponsor of the event. In the past ten months, I’ve been transported by ambulance maybe 50 times to medical appointments from hospitals and nursing/rehab homes, because I was incapable of sitting on a bus seat. This doesn’t include emergency rides, two of which were under life threatening circumstances. Ambulances, which I always thought of as an inconvenience while driving, are now my flashing “Lights of Love.” They may be saving someone’s life, and I say a prayer as I pull over to the side of the road to let them pass.

Hi Joey,
After we saw the piece on Calvo’s exceptional work we thought you may want to check this out.
Next time you are in the GHS field house be sure to have a look at the new sign created and designed by the GHS Cabinet Design & Innovation class.
The original sign was damaged over the years due to various sporting events. The Cabinet Design class under the instruction of Teacher Tim Rose took over the assignment of replacing it. The pictures show some of the talented students who were involved in the project (Mike Munroe, Hannah Pastagal, John Whitmore)
The new sign was created in large part with the help of the new “Computer Numerical Control” or CNC machine which the Cabinet Design Class received through a grant from the Gloucester Education Foundation last year.
Students first designed and then programmed each of the letters using a CNC software program- The design was then fabricated on the CNC. Each letter was attached to the newly designed backboard and finally finished with a bit of paint and a gloss polyurethane.
As you can see, the new sign is a great improvement of the old, and best of all, our very own GHS students crafted it!
The Cabinet Design and Innovation program is one of the longest running electives offered at GHS and is available to all GHS students. Each year the program enrolls 75 students for a full school year.
DONATIONS ACCEPTED!
Thanks Joey,
Tim Rose, M.Ed.

Last year we featured a Christmas Carol Countdown, taking requests for GMG FOB’s favorite holiday tunes. I thought we’d do it again this year; it’s just not possible to hear too much holiday music! Please send us your favorites and we’ll post as many as we can. Looking forward to hearing all!
Countdown begins on Saturday night. Send requests to kimsmithdesigns@hotmail.com. Thank you.
Stevie Wonder’s “What Christmas Means to Me” is such fun and so upbeat. CeeLo does a version, too, which I’d never heard until this year. Which is your favorite?
Hi Joey,
I wanted to share some exciting photos from the first ever Beauport Princess Santa at Sea!! The family event took place on Saturday, December 6th. The afternoon cruise was 2-3:30 and had close to 150 people aboard. The event was so well received we had to add an evening cruise (6-7:30) that had over 100 people as well!!
The Beauport Princess held their first ever “Santa at Sea” cruise on Saturday, September 6th in Gloucester. The event was attended by more than 250 guests aboard two cruises (afternoon and evening) with families from Gloucester and throughout the North Shore. Children were treated to cookies and hot chocolate, a reading of “The Night Before Christmas,” caroling with elves, and of course – a visit from Santa! Guests were able to bring home a complimentary photo as a keepsake. Many dropped off new unwrapped toys that were donated to Action Inc’s Holiday Toy Drive. The event was so successful, the Beauport Princess is hoping to add more cruises for next year!!
The elves take a break from their work on the Santa at Sea cruise aboard the Beauport Princess. All are members of the Cape Ann YMCA Teen Leaders Club. Pictured are Mike Collins, back, and (l-r) Chloe Bailey, Jack Fernandes, Adam Jerome and advisor Chris Brayton.

Well, it’s time for that most holy trinity of wise guy men: the Three Stooges of the East. (Boston, that is…). I do mean the perspiring trio of Edd Scheer, Ricky Russell ,and Mario Perrett. These guys are the Hamburger Helper® of the blooze. With them around, anything can happen, and usually does. Ed’s an amazing singer and frontman who always puts out the grease to make my head spin. Throw in Ricky on gootar and vocals and things brighten up. Add Mario, former teen idol, on vocals and sax and what’s left? Chaos! But, seriously, folks, these are my favorite guys cuz we all get a chance to sing and play more stupid songs than are necessary and to have random harmonies to boot! Come see!
