Making Progress – ReNewell

THE FIRST EVER PMC TEEN MOUNTATIN BIKE CHALLENGE FROM MARCY PLANTE
Yesterday was the first Teen Pan Mass Challenge Mountain ride in
Westwood. The ride was a huge success and the crisp weather was perfect for
biking! They are proud to say that 41 teen riders from 11 Boston area High
Schools, 1 from Connecticut, 1 from Gloucester,1 from Vermont, 3 from China
and 1 right off the plane from school in Denmark, joined efforts to raise
$10,404. That is huge! The stats are amazingly similar to those from the
first year Billy Starr founded the PMC- in 1980 there were 36 riders who
raised $10,200.
Sam Bonchek, raised close to $3000 for the ride. In addition, they had 12
riders who achieved Heavy Hitter status by raising $200 or more. Tucker
Plante from Gloucester was one of those raising $500.00. "If your teen is
interested in being part of next year’s ride we would love to have them!"
Says Wendy Horn. Please send her an email at pmcteenmtb@gmail.com.

Oarmaster’s Cup Race on Sunday, October 14th at 10 AM Niles Beach
The International Dory Committee will be holding the annual Oarmaster’s Cup Race on Sunday, October 14th at 10 AM Niles Beach , Gloucester . Our course will start off the beach and go out around Ten Pound Island , then back to the beach. The best time of the day will be crowned Oarmaster. Please join us to compete for the cup, cheer on you fellow rowers, or buy your 60th Anniversary T-shirt to help a great organization continue to thrive for years to come. Can Len Robertson retain his title in 2012, or will Jimmy T or Joe Sanfilippo regain this coveted award for the best singles dory rower in Gloucester ? Please let us know if you would like to compete or help out at the beach.
Another important date for IDRC faithful is next Tuesday, October 9th at the St. Peter’s Club where we will hold our annual meeting starting at 7 PM. All who would like to contribute something in 2013 are encouraged to attend. We really need the help of our members to accomplish goals of a youth rowing program, improved race day involvement and boat revitalization/maintenance.
Look forward to seeing you all at these important events.

We need about 10 volunteers the morning of the race: one or two more people to help with registration from 8:00-9:15, and then some folks to man the water stop and direct runners on the trail (time commitment approximately 8:30-9:45).
In addition, we need lots of baked goods and raffle items. This is the race’s tenth year, we want it to be memorable!
Please email me at jenn@teamgloucester.com if you are interested, or comment here.
If you are considering running, there are now 14 spots left. I wouldn’t wait to register.
Registration will be limited to 175 entrants and there will be pre-registration online. There will be NO day of registrations accepted.

GHS Film Club-Newell Stadium Documentary Seeks Input
Hey Joe,
The GHS Film Club is working on a documentary on Newell Stadium, it’s history, it’s legacy and the rebuilding. As an advisor with Shaun Goulart, I am reaching out to the community for the students who will be working on the project. This is going to be a student made film that we are hoping will involve the community. With your community involvement, I am hoping you will be able to help us recruit people who are willing to help us with the film. We are looking for people to interview (such as coaches and players), people with footage of events at the stadium and any other community members who might be able to help. This is more than a film about a football field, it is more about a community and how the stadium is such an integral part of that community. I know you have a lot of people who follow your blog and I am hoping we can get you to help get them to help us.
Thanks,
Rich Francis
