Busty Brancleone’s Right Hand

There are books written about people that make themselves out to be hard core fishermen but really they use fishing as an excuse to bum around the wharf and docks but don’t put the time in.

See this hand?

The man that this hand belongs to is the kind of guy a book about a real fisherman should be written about. A man that could tell countless stories about fishing in real weather in ridiculous conditions.

It’s too bad that armchair fishermen get the glory when the guys that deserve the glory never get mentioned.

Guys like Busty Brancleone. The real deal.

CJ Morgante- Day Two Aboard The Lady J

If you’ve been following along you know that CJ Morgante, Major League Soccer Referee asked for the real Lobsterman experience. Frank set him up on three different boats to go lobstering in three days. That’s pretty cool if you ask me for a boy from Pennsylvania with no ties to Gloucester to just roll up here and hop aboard the boats and get to it.

Day Two- Aboard The Lady J with Captain Dave Jewell and mate Goulart.

Pablo- Striper Assasin!

It’s been much slower on the striper front this year compared to last but every once in a while Pablo manages to land one.

God only knows how. He doesn’t hide the hook inside the chunk of herring, he just hooks it right through the side of the herring with the rest of the hook exposed. Most stripers are too smart to fall for that. They are generally very suspicious of anything that does not look natural floating through the water and to land a big fish more times than not you have to carefully plant that hook inside the bait so none of that hook is visible outside of the chunk of bait.

But every once in a while you get that suicidal striper that tosses inhibition to the side and dive bombs at Pablo’s hook.

Sucker!

By Steven Rosenberg

Globe Staff / August 10, 2008

(Editor’s note: Globe reporter Steven Rosenberg recently joined Mark Carroll for a night of fishing off Gloucester.)

GLOUCESTER – Mark Carroll can’t explain why he’s still fishing. He can’t put into words how he fell in love with a profession that has put his life in danger too many times at sea, claimed a lot of his bank account, and his marriage.”

Joe Mondello Readies The Boat To Go Lobstering

You see how the traps are all set along the outside rail of the boat?  Joe is going to set out some gear today. This is a ten pot trawl and all those traps are connected by a ground line with buoys at each end to mark where the traps are set in the ocean so when he goes back out he can find them by looking for his specially painted buoys.
