Just Was Contacted By Fox Casting- MasterChef 3 Casting in Boston!!

I NOMINATE SISTA FELICIA!!!!!

Hi Joey!

I’m a casting producer with the show MasterChef on FOX and I wanted to let you and your readers know that we’re coming to Boston for our third season of casting!  In case you’re not familiar with our show, we are the Gordon Ramsay cooking show that looks for the top "home chef" in America.  That means that anyone 18 years and older who has a love for food (and doesn’t cook professionally for a living) is eligible.  Our show offers people of all ages and walks of life a second chance – for those who have a passion for cooking, but never pursued it professionally for whatever reason, they now have the opportunity to win a huge cash prize and learn from the best in the industry – including chef Gordon Ramsay himself.

I’m reaching out to see if you might be able to help us spread the word about our open casting call for the third season of our show, coming up in Boston on November 5th!  Again, this is a truly incredible opportunity for anyone who loves food, and we had a lot of luck last year finding amazing contestants in Boston!

I’ve attached our flyer and was hoping you might be able to post it to your blog, Facebook and/or Twitter! We’re just trying to let as many people know about the opportunity as possible and if you haven’t seen the show, it’s incredibly positive and really offers these contestants a world-class education in cooking.

I’m available to speak by phone at any time if you have questions or would like to speak directly.

Thank you in advance for anything you can do to help us spread the word and I hope to hear from you soon!

Video- Sista Felicia’s Gorgonzola Pasta Dish On The GDT Website Today

October 11, 2011

Gorgonzola is key in this pasta dish

image

By Times Staff

Gorgonzola is a favorite cheese to cook with or serve in many Italian homes. It is popular in risotto and on polenta but perhaps nothing is as popular as making this cream sauce and serving over pasta. This is one of Felicia Ciaramitaro Mohan’s favorite family recipes. Like many, she prefers serving over a short tubular pasta such as penne instead of something like spaghetti or linguine.

Gorgonzola is a blue cheese that originated in Italy sometime around 800 AD, having been originally made by hanging the cheese moulds in large caves to ripen. Today the cheese is manufactured by injecting the moulds right into the cheese as it begins to age. Traditionally, Gorgonzola is made with raw cow’s milk, although pasteurized and sheep’s milk versions of the cheese are also available. The greenish blue penicillin mould in the cheese imparts a very distinctive sharp and spicy smell that contrasts with the creamy white cheese surrounding it.

Kim Smith Sends In Her Photo of Her Version of Sista Felicia’s Apple Spice Cake

Hi Felicia and Joey,

Felicia’s Apple Spice Cake was a super fabulous hit with my family Thank you!!!!!

xKim

P.S. Chunks went missing before i had a chance to photograph!

PP.S I don’t have a large bundt pan; your recipe made four smallish cakes: one small bundt, one heart-shape, and two very small loaf pans. I froze the two loaf cakes so the kids can take them back to school. And also added grated orange rind to the batter and chopped walnuts to the batter and frosting.

Aileen Kern Steps Up and Makes Grandma Felicia’s Apple Spice Cake! (with pics)

Hi Joey!
You said you wonder if all the people who say they’re going to make the cake really make the cake.  Well, I made it last night and it’s absolutely delicious—see attached photos.  Many thanks to Sista Felicia for all of her great recipes and step-by-step photo instructions–I really enjoy them.
My husband Doug and I are major fans of your blog and read it every day.  We stayed in town recently to attend a family wedding in Manchester and went to the block party and the Joey Show at Lat 43—both were a blast.  We saw you and Felicia at the booth running the Fiesta videos, but you looked pretty busy so we didn’t stop by to say hello.  Next time we’re in town, we’ll be sure to stop by down the dock to say hello.  We’ve been coming to Gloucester for about 30 years and it’s like a second home to us.  We plan to rent an apartment there next spring.  Can’t wait!!
Take care, and thanks again for providing us with our daily Glosta fix, even when we can’t be there in person.
Best regards,   Aileen Kern   (Glenmont, NY)

I’m All In On This Sushi Tasting Platter Deal At Lat 43

I just bought two!!!! Here’s the deal

image

Japanese cuisine takes its visual inspiration from the natural world, designing sushi rolls, for instance, to perfectly mimic the sleeping bags where fish curl up each night. Dive into dreamy marine combinations with today’s Groupon: for $25, you get a sushi-tasting platter at Latitude 43 in Gloucester (a $54 value). Platters can serve as dinner for two or as appetizers for four, and groups of more than six can use two Groupons per table. Each platter includes:

  • One salmon roll (an $18 value)
  • One Samurai tuna press box (a $15 value)
  • One veggie harvest roll (a $13 value)
  • One california crab roll (an $8 value)

Latitude 43’s sushi-tasting platter beckons chopsticks to dive into a feast of fresh fish caught by local Gloucester fishermen. Salmon and wasabi goat cheese lie at the heart of the salmon roll, balanced by artistic flourishes of avocado, enoki mushrooms, and mango wrapped with daikon radish. In the Samurai press box, spicy tuna, tempura flakes, salsa, and micro greens perch neatly atop rectangles of rice, like the fancy lid on a Christmas gift filled only with packing peanuts. Latitude 43’s fishermen take a well-earned rest as diners sample a veggie harvest roll bursting with asparagus, avocado, shishito peppers, mangos, and mixed greens. California crab rolls traverse the West Coast, collecting palatable postcards of Alaskan snow crab, yuzu-teased aioli, cucumber, and avocado along the way.
