Fred Bodin gives the Kodiak Bear Family sculpture a “bear hug” during a special preview on the grounds of the Chris Williams sculpture studio in Essex, MA. I am 6’1″ tall, and males of this species of bear grow to over 10′ tall when standing on their hind legs. The tree the bear family is climbing is 17′ high. The Kodiak bear is to scale! Kodiak, or brown bears, are named after an island of the same name in Alaska.

Just curious–in the above photo, does anyone know what that box-shaped thing is at the end of the dock, below the seagull?

Welcome to the late Ken Kesey and son Zane’s magic bus Further

Florida visitors Sharon St Clair and husband Chuck King rolled into Gloucester about four weeks ago. By chance, they stopped into Charlie's Place and bumped into the Merry Pranksters. This trip, made by son Zane Kesey, replicated the journey from CA to NY made by renowned author Ken Kesey (One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, starring Jack Nicholson) in 1964.

Fifty years later, on September 24, 2014, they came to Gloucester, and had breakfast at Charlie’s Place https://www.facebook.com/pages/Charlies-Place/111697215533360. My friends were there…

Sharon photographed the Furthur crew at breakfast. She and husband Chuck gave them their table for the bus crew. Ken Kesey’s son Zane sits center waving his hand. Sharon and Chuck leave tomorrow for home. I got to know what wonderful and generous people they are… and like me, they’re adventurous. Fair winds and smoothe seas, my friends forever.

Skipper Dave Marciano of FV Hard Merchandise visits ENHA tour at Cape Pond Ice

Celebrity NatGeo Skipper Dave Marciano of FV Hard Merchandise stopped by Cape Pond during our ENHA Trails & Sails Saturday morning tour, to sign autographs and settle up his ice bill – he’d been by earlier with the boat – and also to model a Wicked Tuna / Wicked Ice t-shirt, which we traded for a fresh blue fin tuna steak…. — with Dave Marciano.

There’s a new Humpback Whale at Cape Pond Ice on Gloucester’s inner harbor – if you didn’t see one today out on a Gloucester whale watch, than come tomorrow, Sunday, or next Friday, Saturday or Sunday, for our free ENHA Trails & Sails Icehouse tours. Master Ice Sculptor Donald Chapelle of Brilliant Ice Sculpture is carving a “pod” of Humpbacks for our ice sculpture display, a smaller scale version of his life-size sculpture done in 2007 for Boston’s First Night…. and the first whale has definitely arrived, in all his fluking glory.

The Roseway Was Relaunched At The Gloucester Marine Railway on Tuesday Evening.

Hi Joey,

Tuesday evening just before high tide the Roseway was launched at the Gloucester Marine Railway.   The Roseway will stay docked at GMR through Tuesday, then cross the harbor to Maritime Gloucester where she will pick up some students then head out to sea.   She is a beauty!   Here are some photos of the launch.

If it’s for Charity it’s in good taste right?: GMG Charity Event this winter

The Perfect Storm of Events: Zoolander sequel on schedule, and Joey’s ability to describe hair removal and underwear selection and the post of this Youtube video coalesced together for the perfect GMG Charity Event.

Upside down muffin top?

Check out the video! (Because Gloucester we should be able to do this without this weird privacy screen and maybe Peter and Vickie can come up with a Gimmiesound “ba ba BOOM, ba ba BOOM).

Rubber Duck has said she will be a judge. Any money stuck in underwear goes to Cape Ann Animal Aid. Do it for the puppies!

Hard Merchandise

Hard Merchandise at rest.

Lately it’s hard to avoid The Hard Merchandise around the harbor working and with multiple cameras pointed at the crew unloading Bluefin Tuna.

I caught the Hard Merchandise at rest where it’s been docked for years. Behind the Madfish Galleries on Rocky Neck.

My camera was the only one there.

A parallel world, very similar to ours here in Gloucester, exists in Bayfield, WI, on the shores of Lake Superior. It has Bodin Fisheries, a commercial fishing boatyard, and even a bar called the Rum Line. Check out Bodin’s “Wild Caught Lake Superior U.S.A.” product list: http://www.bodinfisheries.com/price-list.html. If you’re tired of cod and halibut, try Bodin’s Burbot or whole whitefish.
