“GLOUCESTER (CBS) – It Happens Here in Gloucester – part of Cape Ann, an urban town center surrounded by beaches, boats and beautiful marshland. One of the town’s more famous residents was Clarence Birdseye. He is the man who put frozen foods on the dinner table…” Read transcript and see video here (if it’s not loading below)

The Magnolia Pier is coming along. Today, Tuesday, the pilings were put in with a very interesting tool. So looking forward to having the Pier back.

Went kayaking on Saturday afternoon on Magnolia Harbor. The pier progress is starting to show.

More work on the Magnolia Pier coming along.

Even though it was rainy you can see the progress of the pier.
Even in the rain yesterday afternoon, the workers on the pier were actually on the new part of the pier.

What a beautiful day Sunday was. Rick and I went kayaking around Gloucester Harbor and had our lunch on Ten Pound Island, we visited Joey on the dock, Wicked Tuna being filmed and paddle through the west wind and choppy ocean. It was fantastic. Also we saw the barge that took down the Magnolia Pier.
Again we are so lucky.

The Magnolia Pier has come down. The workers have been very nice and keeping the area clean. Looks very weird not seeing the pier there. Looks like it has been photo shopped.
The next stage will be the rebuilding and looking forward to having our Pier back.

They are making great progress with regards to taking down the pier. The workers have been so efficient and friendly. Soon the rebuilding will begin.

The Magnolia Pier is almost all the way down and the new one will be starting soon.

The Crane at Magnolia Pier is taking down the pilings closest to shore. The delay of the barge was due to some of the moorings having to move so the barge could come in and remove the rest of the pier. It is coming along.

I will miss our Magnolia Pier but we all have memories of fun times. The new new one will be going up soon.

When I was over there last week the with the wonderful 8th graders from O’Maley I walked around. Lots of interesting things to see and learn about.

Being over there for the second day, I am learning as well about how to build a boat. These kids really pay attention and enjoy seeing what is built with their own hands. The rope Grommet was interesting to watch being made, the kids under the boats drilling and the sanding of the oars was educational as well as fun. The Essex Shipbuilding Museum staff, the O’Maley teachers and the kids made for a wonderful couple of days. Thank you for the invite.

This is my 3rd year being invited to take photos over at the Essex Shipbuilding in Essex, as the O’Maley’s 8th graders make 2 boats on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The teachers, Amy Donnelly and David Brown are terrific and the kids really learn from them. The staff at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum help out so much teaching the kids how to build a boat. Love these 8th graders and their enthusiasm making something with their own hands. The photos below are from Wednesday.

On Tuesday the bridge was up, I got out to take a peek at the Lannon in the harbor.

Over at the Railway on Saturday, The beautiful Roseway is being repaired. It was little foggy but made to ship look prettier.

Nice day on Sunday to go see the Santa Maria in Newburyport. Of course it is a replica but very impressive. The next stop is the Great Lakes.
