Three Sheets to the Wind
The Schooner Adventure organization spawned Three Sheets to the Wind, a group of local musicians and Adventure crew members who are preserving the history of maritime work songs (chanteys) and forebitter songs.
Rick Berlin
Rick Berlin sings honest narrative (sometimes funny) songs from the torn pocket of the heart; his style has been compared to Waits, Weil, and Newman. Rick’s impressive past credits in the Boston music scene include Orchestra Luna/Luna, Berlin Airlift, Rick Berlin–The Movie, Rome is Burning, Rick Berlin-The Awful Truth, and The Shelley Winters Project. He was a regular at Jacques in Boston ’s Bay Village for nine years, and now appears frequently at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, among many other places.
Eoin Vincent
In November of 2007, Eoin Vincent visited and photographed eighteen orphanages, schools, and hospitals near Arusha, Tanzania. His book is a photographic record of the places he visited and the extraordinary people he met. Eoin will give a slide show and a talk about his book (proceeds from the book will benefit the Tanzania Hope Fund, EPIC Change, and other organizations that improve the lives of the people of Tanzania).
Gordon Baird
A veteran of North Shore Music Theater and other musical palaces, Gordon Baird will bounce around between show tunes and comedic renditions of familiar classics, tailored to a Glosta sensibility and a Rocky Neck state of mind.
Rocky Neck Avenue, East Gloucester
Specific times and locations will be posted in the parking lot on the Rocky Neck causeway and along the Neck.

Here’s another round of pics from the set location for the Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek, and Maya Rudolph
Make sure to make a mental note of these pictures so when the movie comes out you can say, “Hey, I remember those pictures on GMG!”

The Mrs got out on the lake to get you, our faithful Good Morning Gloucester readers the inside skinny and photos from the set!
This may look like it’s been on Chebacco Lake forever but in fact it was built to look old and rustic for the Adam Sandler film currently being shot in Essex Ma at Chebacco Lake. More photos from the set to come.
When the movie comes out next summer look for these locations- you saw them here first!

The Hive is equal parts working studio, gallery event space & clubhouse for the younger generation of Cape Ann creative folk. We formed early in 2009 to encourage art & idea collaborations, support systems and the creation of links between individuals and their community as a whole.

The Hive seeks to build community by providing a space for arts exploration, cross-pollination of ideas and promoting creative and active lifestyles on Cape Ann.

This blog is our mainline of communication. Content ranges from what’s happening at the The Hive, to what our contributing artists are currently working on, to general info of what’s going on on Cape Ann and the surrounding area.

We are a pretty diverse crew, ranging both in our artistic styles as well as our passions. However, we find common ground in our vision to unite the creative & active community and make Cape Ann a more unique place. Check out our profiles to learn more about us.

For a place that has such a rich history with the arts, sometimes it feels like the current scene is much too focused on traditional fine art and is lacking on support for new mediums. Our gallery at The Hive sprouted from the fact that we have so many local friends doing interesting work, without a clear venue to show it.

We’ll see. A bigger building in a more centralized location with more artists & community members involved?? Check out www.thesteelyard.org for inspiration and get in touch.

Check it out and subscribe, you won’t be disappointed

Cape ann Brewing was featured in NorthShore Magazine-
By Alexandra Pecci
Cape Ann Brewing Fisherman’s Bavarian Wheat
This summer specialty is an unfiltered Hefeweizen with hints of banana and clove. “It’s the perfect kind of beer for sitting out in the sun and enjoying the weather,” says Owner and Head Brewer Jeremy Goldberg. 27 Commercial St., Gloucester, 978- 281-4782, capeannbrewing.com.

I had a couple of friends of the blog ask for information about the Adam Sandler movie which stars David Spade, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Rob Schneider, Kevin James, Maria Bello, Colin Quinn and others and is shooting on Cape Ann.
The name of the film is Grown Ups and it is scheduled for release in March of 2010. There’s a ton of info about the movie if you click the above link.

Photos from popsugar.com, click the picture to go to the site for dozens of pics from the set of the movie.
Currently this WPA mural is hung in the Gloucester Visitors Welcoming Center. NOAA is interested in it and it is currently hung improperly for such a valuable piece. There is simple window framing holding it up and it is tearing along seams where nails are holding up the heavy canvas. They couldn’t figure out who the artist was. I wonder if Susan Erony who did the lecture series on the WPA Murals around Gloucester knows. Video at 2PM.

What a cool building-

I caught this on FOB (friend of the blog) Craig’s Commercial-Fishing.org forum
I know lots of people that check out the site are designers and have love for working ports so I thought I’d pass this along-
http://www.workingwaterfrontfestival.org/ In New Bedford they are having a tshirt design contest-
The Working Waterfront Festival invites artists 16 years and older to submit a creative design for the 2009 Festival T-Shirt. Designs should convey festival’s emphasis on the commercial fishing industry and the working port. The winning entry will receive a $100 cash prize. Entries must be emailed by or postmarked no later than May 29th. The winning entry and designer will be announced at the June 11th AHA Night in Downtown New Bedford! Applications can be downloaded from the festival’s web site: www.workingwaterfrontfestival.org.
