The Auction is Thursday Night for more details click this text

Hi,

Frieda asked me to contact you about the handbag contest auction that’s coming up. As you know, Again and Again is sponsoring a handbag contest which has been running for the past month or so. We have gotten a lot of entries, and they are all going to be displayed on Thursday night in the shop, where each entry will be able to be bid on. All proceeds will go directly to the Gloucester and Rockport Youth Sailing Program. We have over thirty extremely creative entries and we would love if you could post the information for Thursday night on your site. It’s open to absolutely everyone. There will be light food and drink, as well as door prizes. We would also love to have you stop by on Thursday to see what what we’ve put together, if you get a chance.

Thanks,
WILLIE NORRIS

Friend Clips At Cape Ann Farmer’s Market

Calle age 10 and Olivia age 12 are a couple of young designers who have created some beautiful and functional snack clips and magnetic clips.  5 clips for $5 with $1 from every sale going to brain tumor research.

Olivia lost her dad Kirk at the young age of 47 on March 27, 2008 after a 13 month battle with brain cancer. Olivia and Calle thought that giving back a portion of the proceeds would be a good way to give back and to help find a cure.

I bought some for The Bean and Snoop Mad and they totally give them two thumbs up.

When you see young entrepreneurs like this it renews hope in the younger generation.
If you would like to find out how you can get some of these awesome snack clips (and who can ever have enough awesome snack clips) you can email them at friendclips@yahoo.com or you can head down to the Cape Ann Farmer’s Market next Thursday.
Video coming at 7AM

Joe Brancaleone- Hemoglobin Lighted Long Board

Here’s Joe Brancaleone with one of his latest long board creations.  This board has lights underneath the board which make it outlandishly cool.  If I were coordinated enough to get on a skateboard, I’d be all over it!

Check out the Hemoglobin Boarding Co Official Site here

You just gotta love all the young creative people in our community.  We are so incredibly blessed to have the creative scene that we do.  People like Emile, Mike and Tom making short films, the gang at The Hive, the artists recording music downstairs at CABI just to name a tiny few.  Then you have the photographers like Mark Teiwes and Ernie doing their edgy stuff.  We have Rob Newton who is fully committed to bring us great movies at Cape Ann Community Cinema, the list goes on and on and on….

Keep it fresh y’all                   and thank you.

Bobby Ryan at Ryan and Wood Distillery

Yesterday I stopped up to see Bobby Ryan, half of the Ryan and Wood Team and a good friend of the family.  The boys are doing something special up in Blackburn Park.  Something our entire community can be proud of.

They are one of only three distillers in Massachusetts.   Crafting spirits-vodka, gin and rum to exacting standards.

Here is a link to the R & W Distillery website

You can tour the facility, well worth a visit.

Look for the first of a four part video series this morning at 8AM

Things To Do- Art Haven Celebration

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES:

Art Haven Celebrates One Year Anniversary and Official Tax-Exempt Status

GLOUCESTER, MA—Anniversaries come once a year, to celebrate the beginning of a good thing. The beginning of art classes for kids. Or the beginning of a new darkroom for a community. In the minds of Cape Ann Art Haven, the one-year anniversary this July 31st is an important one.

“It’s amazing to look back and see what a difference a year makes,” says founder David Brooks. “I love looking around and seeing the darkroom, the pottery wheels, and everything else that’s going to help us be an even bigger part of the community in the next year.”

To celebrate the benchmark, Art Haven is hosting an Anniversary Party and Fundraiser on Friday, July 31st from 5:30 to 8pm to celebrate being open for a full year and recently receiving their official 501(c)3 tax-exempt status. At the Studio on Main Street in Gloucester, a live auction and art raffle will kick off the evening of free food and darkroom tours. Student and staff artwork will also be on display.

Following this the Art Haven staff will share a presentation of what Art Haven has done and where they hope to go in the next year with the help of the community that has gotten them this far. Also, a tour will be leaving from the studio at 5:15 to unveil two murals painted by summer program participants on Supreme Roast Beef and Cape Ann Business Incubators.

“We’re excited to be able to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped to get us this far,” says Art Haven Director Dawn Gadow. “We’d love it if you’d all come out and celebrate with us.”

After starting with just children’s classes a year ago, Cape Ann Art Haven has now expanded to be a community place for adults and youth alike. What started as one room has turned into a multi-dimensional space for all kinds of art to be created and displayed. Painting and drawing, which dominated the studio in its early months, are now just a small portion of the creative activities going on in the studio.

If interested in Cape Ann Art Haven’s classes, darkroom, or simply for more information, contact arthaveninfo@gmail.com, visit www.arthaven.org or call (978) 283-3888.

DSC_2665 [640x480] When Joey posted the interview with Dennis at Tessera Mosaic Studio, I knew right away that my 10 year old granddaughter, Kylie, would be interested. So last week we took a day off from the beach and went down to take a look.

Well, it’s become Kylie’s favorite place.  Talia and Abby are incredibly encouraging and do anything to help someone get started on a project. The prices are reasonable and there’s a huge selection of bases and materials to choose from.

After Kylie picked out her flower base, she gathered  glass, beads, and other pieces for the center. It takes a lot of planning and problem-solving to create the design you have in mind.

Ky placed the pieces on the base to get an idea where they would go. We took a picture as a guide and she removed them so she could apply the glue.DSC_2624 [640x480] By following the photo, she glued them into place. (Of course, with some minor changes!)

People walked in to the studio to check out the projects or just to chat.

It’s a great place to hang out. Lots of positive creative energy.

Dennis is working on a huge piece, bit by bit, for a local business.

DSC_2628 [640x480] The studio was packed for the Block Party. Young and old wanted to try their hand at creating a stepping stone or a flip-flop stone. Dennis and crew were busy mixing cement, filling molds, leveling off the pieces. Ally, Dennis’s daughter, was taking reservations!

DSC_2663Kylie’s mom and dad got into the act last night. Now they want to do their own creations!

To learn more about the word TESSERA, click here.

And to have a great time alone or with family or friends, visit the studio at 42 Main St. You’ll love it! Kylie and I will be there again tomorrow to finish up her pieces!

Art Haven Block Party Plans

just in from Art Haven Director Dawn Gadow-

Hi all,

Although I know it’s probably too late to get in any real advertising or anything, I just wanted to let you all know that Art Haven will be having a beach day for the block party this weekend. We’ve got some beautiful big shells that kids can paint and do crafts with and make their own beach scene! There is also a possibility of making the shells into candles. So, if you could spread the word at all that would be awesome. I hope the week is going well for you all and I’m praying for sunshine on Saturday!
