What to do Today

Today’s a great day to tour the Art Gallery’s on Cape Ann. What else is there to do on a warm Drizzly, Foggy almost Summer Day? Boating, Beach, Cookouts?   Maybe Next weekend.

Take a walk thru Downtown Gloucester, Rockport, Rocky Neck and check out all the talented  Cape Ann artists.

Go visit a gallery today, take some pictures and send them in to GMG to be posted.

I stole this idea from deb Clarke. My reflection in John Nesta Gallery's window

Martha Hale Harvey

Lobster Cove, Gloucester. Platinum Print Photograph by Martha Hale Harvey - ca. 1900

I was talking to Jane Enos from the Beacon yesterday about some old WPA photos of Gloucester fishermen included in the Library of Congress. I didn’t have much luck finding those photos, but I did find several by this woman. Her prints can be found in museums throughout the country.

“AHHT” It’s what I Do! by deb Clarke

From deb Clarke;
Most of my work these past few weeks has been focused on the view in Cripple Cove.  Today and yesterday I stretched and triple primed this 38×42″ canvas.  I planned to draw on the gessoed surface with a sharpie marker, but I’m having a hard time making that first irreversible mark.  My plan was to base a painting on favorite drawings of looking down on Capt Joe’s docks .  pics of my recent drawings, the ‘white angst’, and source material follow.

2010 ART at Bass Rocks – presented by SeaArts

Held June 8th at the Bass Rocks Golf Club.

Featured local artists and some of their work, a great forum to listen to the artists speak about their work.  A great evening understanding the motivation and personal story behind each piece.  We were also rewarded with a rainbow ‘Nature’s own painting’ at the end of the program.

I have captured some of the artists and their work below in a slide show; I hope to also put together a short video of them speaking about their work.  Please enjoy and support your local artists, and watch for the video on GoodMorningGoucester.

The scaffolding came down off the back window on Saturday. This shot on Sunday shows that all gone so that attendees of the sold-out performance on Thursday June 10 will have an unobstructed view of the harbor.

Tickets available for Friday on can be ordered HERE. They seem quite reasonable $25-$46 since there is not a bad seat in the house.

One can also get an unobstructed view of the harbor by purchasing a purple cow ice cream cone from the Ice Cream Store and a latte from Bean and Leaf (both on Bearskin Neck) then walking out onto the Lumber Wharf. (Daughter purple cow, large latte, me.)

Rainy Sunday so working on a design. Using the lobster as a base I’ve added a few things. For one, the lobster should be cooked. And then to stir the controversy, I’ve added Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise. Bring out the Hellmann’s and bring out the best!
