North of Boston Arts Center Open House September 2
Beverly Farms, MA – The North of Boston Arts Center (NOBAC) will be hosting their first open house on September 2 from 5-7 pm at the Hastings House in Beverly Farms. This event will be held in conjunction with Hastings House members and will give parents, families and prospective members a chance to meet with the NOBAC and Hastings House staff and board. Attendees can also learn about this Fall’s schedule of art, music, theater and cooking classes; tour the Hastings House facilities; and enjoy refreshments as they mingle.
NOBAC after school arts classes are available at the Hastings House on Monday-Thursday from 4-6 pm for children ages 5-13, beginning September 7th. In addition to the after school arts program, NOBAC also puts on two musical productions every year in the Spring and the Fall. This Fall’s production is The Tale of the Oysta: a seafaring Whoops, which was written entirely by students in Henry Allen’s Playwrights Unite! class this summer, is based on about 20 songs by Cole Porter and George & Ira Gershwin.
This young nonprofit was founded in May of 2008 by Beverly local, Bonnie Rynkowski, with the hopes of giving children a creative outlet and direction in any area of interest – from visual arts and crafts to jazz, opera and organic cooking.
Over the last year, NOBAC has seen a considerable amount of growth with the addition of Manchester-By-The-Sea resident Henry Allen, its artistic director who has directed the shows that NOBAC students perform in the Spring and Fall, and is a member of the core faculty.
Faculty member and local business owner, Jessica Brand, is excited about the growth she has seen at NOBAC over the last year:
“I remember this time last year when we had two or three kids in each class and only a handful of parents getting involved. This year we have seen so many families really get excited about NOBAC and the invaluable experience we’re providing for their kids. We hope that this open house will only help us expand our community and open up more opportunities for us to reach out to local kids who are interested in the arts.”
The Hastings House is located in Beverly Farms across from the Train Station at 14 Oak Street.
For more information on NOBAC and its list of fall classes, visit theNOBAC.org, call NOBAC-8-0033 (662-228-0033), or email info@thenobac.org

Delineation Lime, by Anne Krinsky, acrylic on panel, 24” x 24”
Printmaker Anne Krinsky will be the third Goetemann Artist in Residence for 2010. She will give a talk about her work on Wednesday, September 15 at 7pm in the Rocky Neck Gallery.
Anne Krinsky makes grid-based works on paper and panel that occupy a middle ground between painting and drawing. In them, a delicate linear geometry is alternately overlaid with, or superimposed upon, translucent layers of acrylic color. Her panels are built up over time with thick swaths, splotches and drips of candy-colored paint. She subsequently sands these down to create a seamless seductive surface — a visual representation of a present moment shaped by prior experience.
Her upcoming show, Anne Krinsky: Time / Line, 2000 – 2010, opens in October 2010 at the Trustman Gallery at Simmons College in Boston. Krinsky’s layered acrylic paintings are in the collections of the British Museum, the Boston Public Library, Graham Gund and the UK charity, Paintings in Hospitals. She holds a BFA in Printmaking from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and is represented in Boston by Soprafina Gallery.

Jo-Ann Castano Would Like Us To Check Out The Work Of Stevens Brosnihan
Jo-Ann writes-
Hi Joey, Getting more and more feedback on people loving GMG! I just repost
from your site to fb. Works well for me, thanks. This is one of the posting on my fb you
may not have received and might be interested in. Gloucester fine artist, Stevens, is a wonderful
fun guy and the Cape Ann Museum’s use of the White-Ellery House to host one day installations
of artists has been a fantastic opportunity. Think you would enjoy Stevens and
I was interested in that he says here he has processed photographs with coffee. Not sure
if he’s under the influence of caffein or actually processing film with coffee. Either way,
I’m sure he’s captured the historical time and essence of the White-Ellery House in
a unique way. Best to you today Joey… keep that news flying like the gulls.

Helen Anne Lind Tells The Story Of How She Created The Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce Logo Back in the 70’s
Helen Anne Lind, a frequent commenter on GMG writes in from Palm Springs California after she saw the post I wrote giving props to Chamber Director Bob Hastings-
It is very nice to see the logo I designed for the Chamber many years ago (c 1970′s) still being used. This was created prior to the days of computer graphics & fancy programs. It was hand cut in “ruby lith” (which is a film) with an X-Acto knife. The original size of the art was quite large (perhaps 2ft high or more). It was then reduced to the necessary sizes by means of my vertical “stat camera”.
This equipment could produce B&W paper reproductions and/or transparent film images. It would reduce to 33% and enlarge to 300% in one percent increments. By the 90′s the equipment was a “dinosaur” and the trash truck took it to its final resting grounds. Thanks for showing the logo!
