Rules of the 2012 bikini/speedo Dodgeball tournament

All 5 team members will start by lining up against the back of their side of the court,
5 balls will be distributed across the center line (2 large kickball style balls, and 3
smaller “stingers”)

On the ref’s whistle, teams can race to the center to claim the balls; those who get balls
must retreat to the back wall again before throwing their first ball. Balls thrown before
that will not count.

Balls that bit the ground first or the side of the court are dead, and do not count for outs if
they then hit a player.

If a player is holding a ball, they can use it to block other balls thrown at them.

If you are hit by a ball or your throw is caught cleanly by a member of the opposite team,
you are out, and must immediately stand in the side court area in the order you were hit.

If a player catches a ball, one player from their team who is already out in the side court
area can come back in the game. (follow the order of outs, the first one who was out is
the first back in, etc.)

No head hunting. Balls thrown at the face will not count as outs and the thrower will be
warned.

Balls that fly out of the court will be retrieved and returned to the side of the court where
they went out of bounds.

Once all 5 players from a team are out, the match is over.

This is a great event for a great cause… have fun!!

Late-breaking news: MAC ups the ante!

Joey, this news just came over the wire about Sunday’s event.

Late-breaking news: MAC ups the ante!

This just in: Manchester Athletic Club has upped the ante for Sunday’s Bikini-Speedo Dodgeball event, doubling the entry fee for Muffy White’s Hot Mess team that will benefit Next Step.

Just as bets before a horse race flow toward the favorite, the smart money before this Sunday’s event is lining up behind the Hot Mess squad. The MAC had held back on making its support public in an effort not to intimidate the other teams, especially the other so-called “gyms” in the event.

George Eliot Quote of The Week from Greg Bover

“It’s never too late to be who you might have been.”
Mary Anne Evans, aka George Eliot (1819-1880)

image

Among the finest novelists of the Victorian Age, Evans chose a masculine pen name in order that her work would be taken more seriously by the male-dominated literati, and to keep her private life, including a twenty year relationship with a married man, private. Her novels Adam Bede, The Mill on the Floss, Silas Marner, and especially Middlemarch, are regarded as masterful descriptions of life in provincial England with great insight into the psychological drama of everyday life.

After reading the considerable smack talk and seeing the photos of past events I have only one thing to say…. I have never been so grateful for mass hysteria and shameless exposure for the common good. I am looking forward to comparing all of your 6 packs on Sunday. Thanks Everyone.

Gloucester High School Honors Physics, Robotics, Technology students are looking for some of these batteries

We have amazing teachers. Kurt Lichtenwald teaches engineering, technology, robotics (with support from Gloucester Education Foundation), and physics at Gloucester High School . Here are some photos of a STEMsapalooza day at East Gloucester Elementary. Kurt Lichtenwald brought 34 high school students for a full day to get the younger students excited about science, technology, engineering and math. His high school students ran learning stations that showcased their own engineering work. That’s  infrared writing you see featured in the first slide and Kurt (he’s the guy in the suit); there were also plenty of  remote controlled customized robotics and clever science experiments that had action packed hands on science (buoyancy, Gas Laws, etc). All grades were enthralled.

See that second slide? They could use any of these batteries if you have some and don’t need them any longer. It’s amazing what they invent with a little power juice!

Museum presents Family Fun Day on the second Saturday of the month

The Cape Ann Museum is pleased to present a drop-in program for families with young children on the second Saturday of each month. Family fun day includes free admission for family members all day, family gallery guides for our exhibitions, art and history activities in the education room throughout the day. Seventy-five sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students are in the cast and crew (please see the enclosed cast/crew list for names of students in the show, which has been double cast).  Students have been rehearsing for an hour after school twice a week since September. Audiences are sure to be impressed and inspired by the talent and exuberance radiated by our young performers as they sing, dance, and act out this heartwarming story. The performances are an excellent showcase of the end product of our Performing Arts Department’s elective after school training programs in the disciplines of Music (Chorus), Dance, and Theatre.

In addition to being sold at school lunches, tickets ($5 students/seniors & $7 adults) go on sale a half hour before show time.
