This Webcam and more can be found at www.gloucesterwebcam.com

This www.gloucesterwebcam.com local webcam portal project was an idea I had last year to have as many webcams streaming from local businesses or organizations as possible which highlight the incredible vistas that we as people that live and work here get to enjoy each and every day.

The idea was to have the organization install the webcam, have them embed the webcam feed on their own websites as well and have a link to each business website on the Gloucester webcam portal website to showcase their business as well.

Tim Blakeley from Gloucester Bytes provided the initial installation at ridiculously cheap cost because he believed in the project.

Book review: Joe Garland’s Lone Voyager

Mike the Truck Driver, who lobsters out of Salem when he’s not on the road, reviews and reads from Joe’s biography of Howard Blackburn.

Not exactly safe for work. Mike likes salty language (what local doesn’t?), but his review of Joe’s book is admiring and sincere.

A distinct podcast voice!

Musician, singer and storyteller David Coffin and his daughter Linnea Coffin perform songs from the maritime tradition in this family program for all ages. Following the performance, children and their families are invited to visit the CAM Activity Center from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Spin the ship’s wheel, examine maritime artifacts, complete a map quest and create watercolor paintings of ships at sea. A great way to kick off school vacation week! Free and open to the public; sponsored by the Goldhirsh Foundation.

David has performed throughout New England since 1980. Widely known for his rich baritone voice, he is particularly adept at getting the crowd to join him in song. His impressive collection of musical instruments includes concertinas, recorders, penny-whistles, bombards, gemshorns, cornamuse, shawm, rauschphieffe (or, as he explains, "generally anything that requires a lot of hot air"). Many of these instruments are used in his interactive school enrichment program "Music from the King’s Court: Exploring the Early Winds." Linnea Coffin is a performer in her own right; as a dancer she featured prominently in this past year’s Christmas Revels as the skeleton and has danced at Carnegie Hall. She continues to be willing to sing with her Dad.

Introduced in September 2005, Saturday Showcase is designed to bring families and children into the Museum to share enriching experiences. The focus is on the visual and performing arts, with strong ties to Cape Ann. Painters, musicians, dancers and storytellers are among the artists who have presented programs.

Cape Ann Brewing Just Killing It With This Tasty Haddock Sangie

Joey C Tip of the day-

Hold the tah tah sauce and order a side of cocktail sauce to spice this bad boy up.   Then drizzle a little of that killer diller home made hot sauce they got behind the bar and you’ve got yourself a fan-freaking-tastic Haddock sandwich.  Boom!

Big ups for the nice crispy fries as well.

To Help Travis Todd:image

Hello my name is Travis and I am an eleven year old boy with a chromosome abnormality that is rare,so rare that I am the only known case in the world. I love to go outside for walks in my wheelchair but I get upset when my mom stops to talk to someone, she needs to keep moving.I can walk but not far and not alone because I am legally blind. I can not talk at all and I have a g-tube so that I can eat. I am a very happy boy and my mom says that I have the cutest smile and the sweetest little laugh. I love my mom and dad and they love me. I have two older siblings and a niece and a nephew. My family is my life and I am theirs.

My Physical Therapist recommends that I get a Rifton Tricycle. This tricycle provides the support I need with specific accessories to allow me to ride around with my siblings.

Big Time Bluefin Tournament Coming To Gloucester This Summer

blue fin blowout

Thirty years ago Gloucester, Massachusetts was home to one of the best Bluefin Tuna tournaments in New England.  So when my good friends Rob Bouley and Joe Boreland brought up the idea for a big tournament, I knew it was time to bring all tuna fanatics back to America’s Oldest Seaport for the Lyon-Waugh Auto Group First Annual 2012 BLUEFIN BLOWOUT!
Our home base at Cape Ann’s Marina Resort is the premier location to access the tuna fishing grounds north to Ipswich Bay, east to Jeffrey’s Ledge and south to Stellwagen Bank.  Our mission is to gather commercial and recreational, experienced and greenhorn, young enthusiasts and old salts together for a weekend full of huge prizes, great bands, big parties and amazing fishing!
Nothing compliments two days of competitive fishing like three days of music, food, cocktails and fish stories.  The feel of a big tournament will be in the air with the suspense of the day’s cash Calcutta. Get a chance to talk to some of the captains and mates on the new National Geographic series “Wicked Tuna” and watch as some of the biggest tuna fish of the year are weighed in right on location.
Whether you are the big cash prize winner or enjoying everything the tournament has to offer, we are excited to have you aboard with us at the most exciting tuna tournament of the year! See you at Cape Ann’s Marina Resort for the Lyon-Waugh Auto Group First Annual 2012 BLUEFIN BLOWOUT

Stay Salty!

Discover Gloucester Weekly From Linn Parisi

Joey- Thanks for the chance to catch up on some of the past couple of month’s pictures I’ve wanted to share.
The first pic is from February 28, taken at the Cape Ann Brewing Company: Jeremy Goldberg gave Steve Borichevsky (Shooting My Universe) a fabulously framed Fisherman’s Brew carton & Award for winning the photo contest for the new carton design. I was happy to meet & chat with Steve. I’ve loved his amazing work for quite a while… ditto for Fisherman’s Brew. It’s great having Cape Ann Brewing as a Discover Gloucester partner.

The second and third pics are from the AAA Travel Marketplace held at Gillette Stadium March 2-4. Over the 3 day show, we interacted with 2200 potential visitors. Bob from Ryan & Wood and Paul Frontierro, 7 Seas Whale Watch set up the booth and worked it for a few hours. Bob just loved wearing the sou’wester, heh heh…

I want to share these invitations, too-

The Ordinance & Administration Committee of the City Council, chaired by Councilor Romeo-Theken, has invited all Gloucester tourism business professionals to give their input re: rewriting the City’s Tourism Commission Ordinance at a Workshop on Tuesday, April 17, 6PM at Kyrouz Auditorium, City Hall. This is your chance to be heard as to what you feel the City should undertake in the way of planning the work and working the plan for tourism in Gloucester, so show up and speak up.

Save the Date: Discover Gloucester Mug Up Meeting, April 26, 8:30AM at the lovely Heath’s Tea Room, 43 South Street in Rockport. Join us for a cuppa (tea or coffee) and a freshly baked scone while we chat about Customer Caring & Visual Intrusions- both timely subjects as we get into the busy season.
