So I Hated Windows 8 So Much That I Just Ordered Up and Paid For Windows 7 Software To Install On My New Windows 8 Laptop

THAT’S HOW MUCH I HATED IT!

image

I know of no man woman or child that went out of their way to defend Windows 7 to Apple fanboys like buddies Paul Morrison and Kim Smith than yours truly.

This guy’s idea of a work computer is not just a consumption device.  It’s a device used to edit and create content for CBS Boston’s Most Valuable Blog and North Shore Magazine’s Best Blog, www.goodmorninggloucester.com

As big of a dope as I am, when it comes to creating content I’d say my opinion on this matters.

Windows 8 is a HUGE STEP BACKWARDS if you are a creator.   If you are a person that only uses their computer to casually browse the internet then you probably wouldn’t have a problem with it.

In my opinion WINDOWS 8 SUCKS ASS.  They dumbed down the interface so the windows 8 PC will be universally synced through the cloud to windows tablets and windows phones.  While the Windows phone version might be great because it brings up the level of usability on a phone, by the same measure they dumbed the interface down on the desktop of the PC.

So disappointing.

I’m paying money to go back a generation of an operating system.  Congrats Microsoft, one of your biggest fans is disgusted.

This is the gate house to the Todaiji Shrine, also in Nara. The scale of this woodworking is awe inspiring. That fluorescent green dot is my adult son Nick.

Café Bishco from Fred Bodin

Fred Bodin writes-

Tonight I decided to order takeout from nearby Cafe Bischco, 51 Main Street (978) 283-8309. They served up a meatball marinara wrap for less than $8. I’ve had their wraps before, and they’re tasty, and enough for a whole dinner. The menu is varied, and very inexpensive. Here is my photo just before I took the meal home. Almost all the meat is below the layer of lettuce. You can judge the size by my gallery ruler. And you can almost smell it from the photo. Love this place – thanks Daria and Mark!

After The Rocky Neck Plunge Hot Coffee, Hot Chocolate and Fish Chowder At The Cultural Center on Rocky Neck

Brenda Malloy Forwards-

FYI~
There will be a post swim get together open to all at The Cultural Center on Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson St. (site of former Christian Science Church), just down the street from where the swim will take place.  There will be hot coffee, hot chocolate and fish chowder served for everyone.  If you have not seen The Center yet, this is a wonderful opportunity to see what is going on there.   Hope to see you there!  If you’d like to bring some donuts or muffins, feel free!  PEACE!

Midnight Downtown Gloucester Snow Emergency Photo From Fred Bodin

Photo taken just now at 12 Midnight. As you can see, the Snow Emergency parking ban is working. Later, the streets will be scraped clean by our DPW. This will not be a big dumping of snow. I still have to drive home, but once I get to the Rockport line, the streets will be almost dry. That’s Rockport.
On another topic, I just happen to have a CD playing of Jonathan Richmond and the Modern Lovers, which I talked about with Katy Downer and her friend at the bar at Seaport Grille October 15th, while shooting the transport of a section of the 460 feet tall wind turbine from barge to construction site, which is on on GMG. Kathy knew about this musician, which most folks do not. Here’s a link to get you started: http://www.allmusic.com/album/roadrunner-roadrunner-the-beserkley-collection-mw0000469273
Truth is, I liked this guy’s music two decades ago and still do. "If you’re in love with Massachusetts, if you’re in love with Modern Music, turn your radio on." Only this guy could talk about riding on 128 and being in love with a shopping center.

Nancy Shaw From Lanesville Submits Some Storm Photos and a Deer Hanging From a Tree

Hi Joey!

For some strange reason I receive my Good Morning Gloucester Blog in the evening!  So for me it is a Good Night Gloucester every night before I go to bed.  Thank you for your informative and interesting blog.

Here are a few pics that I took yesterday in the Northeaster Storm.  Also there is one of a deer hanging in a tree on Rt. 127 going towards Annisquam that I thought was rather different as it is out in public for all to see.  My son who has the award winning Hunter Angler Gardner Cook blog (honest-food.net/blog1/) said it is a spike deer and very good eating.  Although he thought hanging it in the front yard was rather brazen!

Happy New Year!

Ravenswood 1920 From Fred Bodin

In view of the weather in store for us tomorrow, I submit to you: Ravenswood, Gloucester, 1920. Many of us have hiked, skied, and photographed on this public property. Gloucester photographer Alice M. Curtis took this photo and others in Ravenswood. One is of a cross-country skier in action. I’m saving that one for the snowstorm that drops enough on us to ski there.

Ravenswood is a fairly easy place to cross-country. There is limited parking, but folks park on the side of Route 127.  Whether you CC or not, it’s a great spot to take photos in any season. Sorry, but I forgot to mention snow shoeing, which I have not done yet, but definitely want to try. It is owned and managed by the Trustees of Reservations. When you’re done and hungry, come to downtown Gloucester to say "hi" to me and I’ll recommend the perfect restaurant(s) to you. Here’s the map:http://www.thetrustees.org/assets/documents/places-to-visit/trailmaps/Ravenswood-Park-Trail-Map.pdf

See you there!

Gay marriage comes to Maine: Couples wed when law takes effect after midnight

By NBC News wire services

PORTLAND, Maine – Gay and lesbian couples exchanged their vows early Saturday as Maine’s new same-sex marriage law took effect a minute after midnight.

Among them were Steven Bridges and Michael Snell, who held a commitment ceremony six years ago but wanted to make their marriage official under state law.

"It’s historic. We’ve waited our entire lives for this," said Bridges, a retail manager, who’s been in a relationship with the Snell, a massage therapist, for nine years. Bridges, 42, and Snell, 53, wore lavender and purple carnations on black T-shirts with the words "Love is love."

Joey C Advice To Youngsters

There will come a day either in middle school or high school or on the street with friends that somebody offers you pills to get high.

Do yourself a favor and just never ever ever ever ever take one.  Not if it’s free, not if your friend or acquaintance makes fun of you or calls you a pussy.  Not if that really hot chick that you’ve been dying to get with is there and she is taking one.   There’s no freaking reason for you to take a pill recreationally.

Yes you’re young.  Yes you feel invincible and your testosterone and estrogen are doing crazy things to your body. But just trust me on this one.  I’ve seen smart good looking people that thought they would only take them once in a while just completely screw their lives up.  First you need one or two,, then one or two turns into four or six,  then your missing days at work, stealing from your parents to get money for pills, then you try the oxytocin, then the oxy becomes too expensive and while just a year before you would laugh at the idea that you would ever consider sticking a needle in your arm you have to get high and the only thing you can afford is a cheap bag of crack or heroin.

There’s no need to take pills.  None.  Not to look cool because some hot piece of ass broad is taking pills, not because your buddy is taking them, no reason.  No reason at all.

Please don’t consider this preaching.  Just consider it a friendly message from someone who wants the best for you.  I’ve seen handsome young men turn into walking dead zombies and I want better for you.  I’ve seen beautiful young women turn into crack ho’s with brown jagged teeth and sullen sunken in faces that made them look 30 years older than they were.

Oh, and stay in school for as long as you can pull it off, it’s wayyyy easier than working for a living.

#Boom!
