Gloucester DECA Fundraiser

Hello! My name is Danielle Pomeroy, and I am a senior at Gloucester High School. I am the president of our city’s DECA chapter, and was wondering if there was any way in which you could publish an article publicizing our upcoming fundraiser. It is a babysitting night on Valentine’s Day at the Magnolia Library for all ages 2-12. The cost is $5 an hour, $20 for the entire night (5-9). For each additional child from the same family, the cost will be a $10 flat rate. We will include arts & crafts, activities, snacks, and a movie. It will be run by a large group of local students participating in Gloucester DECA, and all proceeds will go towards reducing the cost for our state competing in March (approximate $320 per student, and 15 are eligible to attend). If you have any questions you can contact me, Danielle Pomeroy, atdaniellepomeroy2013@gmail.comThank You!Sincerely, Danielle

Thank you NFL

Thank you so much for not giving us a half time show featuring sixty year old plus retread acts like the Stones, Madonna, or Aerosmith and instead giving us the electric fresh young act and giving today’s talent a chance to shine on the worlds biggest stage.

Props to Beyonce. An addendum: does anyone else think that Beyonce is the second most attractive member of Destiny’s Child behind Kelly Rowland? Girl was sporting some guns. No disrespect to Beyonce she lit that stage up.

Would have loved to see the Niners come back if for no other reason than to see how my Colin Kapernick /Taylor Swift prop bet would have worked out but my guess is now that the Ravens won and they will get more publicity Ray Lewis has a better shot at pushing her guts around than Kapernick.

Hope y’all enjoyed the game. 🙂

Step 1  Heat oil in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add potatoes, cook, covered, stirring occasionally, until golden, about 8 minutes.

Step 2  Meanwhile beat eggs, milk, salt and pepper in bowl until blended.

Step 3  Reduce heat to medium.  Pour eggs over potatoes in skillet.  As eggs begin to set, gently pull the eggs across the pan with an inverted turner.  Continue cooking until eggs are thickened and no visible liquid egg remains.  Do not stir constantly.

Step 4  Sprinkle with cheese.  Remove from heat; cover pan.  Let stand until cheese is melted.  Top with salsa, chips and cilantro, if desired.

Community Stuff 2/4/13

An afternoon of Scottish music fills the air at the Annisquam Village Church on Sunday afternoon, February 10 at 4 PM when Parcel of Rogues comes to play their irrepressible jigs, reels, and strathspeys.  The Parcel of Rogues are three old friends who come together to share their love of the music of Scotland.  Fiddler Calum Pasqua is a two-time winner of the prestigious Glenfiddich Fiddle Competition held annually at Blair Castle in Scotland.  He was the first American ever to compete when he came away with first place!  Calum grew up doing Scottish dancing with his Dundonian mother and playing bagpipes in the NYC Police Band.

Susie Petrov, the group’s piano and accordion player, discovered Scottish music through the dancing when she was a teenager. It has been her life’s most pleasurable work travelling to Scotland, Canada, and across the USA and Europe, playing for concerts, dancing, and teaching others to play the music.

Along the way on her Scottish teaching travels, Petrov met fiddler Neil Ewart, a high school student at the National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music, who hails from the remote Ardnamurrichan Peninsula. Neil has continued this work and study in Applied Music at Strathclyde University. His fiddle playing spans the spectrum of techno-Gaelic songs to straight up jigs, reels and strathspeys.

The trio’s music spans the range from emotional slow airs to high-energy, toe-tapping reels and jigs.  Selections will be announced from the stage, inviting the audience to know more about the music of the day. It is rumored that the concert will include a bit of dancing and piping, as well, with plenty of kilts and tartans about!  Shortbread and tea follow the concert. The historic Annisquam Village Church, known for its superb acoustics, is at 820 Washington Street in Gloucester at the head of Lobster Cove.

Tickets at the door only:  $15. / $5. child accompanied by adult.

Good Egg Report From Martin Del Vecchio

Martin writes-

Gloucester residents Calvin Del Vecchio (9) and Treely Dowd (8) decided that they didn’t need any presents at their joint Ninja birthday party.  Instead, they asked each guest to bring a small donation for The Open Door.

They raised a total of $87, which they presented to Julie LaFontaine, Executive Director of The Open Door.  She said, "Donations like this touch the heart and inspire us all to give what we can to help make a difference in our community."

City Hall Mural ID Help

Hey Joey,
Tim Moran here.  I am the one who posted all of the pictures of the “Magnolia Kids” reunion last September.
http://themorans.org/themorans/Magnolia/Magnolia.htm
Regarding the restored murals in the City Hall, specifically the one where there is a group of men gathered around a conference table in a meeting.
My sisters, Marcia, Sunny, and I are wondering if the man with the gavel at the head of the table might be ouir grandfather Wilfred H Ringer.  Wilfred H Ringer was the principal of Gloucester High through much of the 30s.
Here are a crop from the mural and a picture of our grandfather.
