Sunset over the Moraine Farm greenhouse

Beverly, MA –October 13, 2014 – Moraine Farm, a property of The Trustees of Reservations, is offering Fall Farm Shares. Located in North Beverly, just minutes off 128 at exit 20, the farm provides local residents, area school children, and local food pantries with seasonal farm-fresh produce and provides community members of all ages meaningful volunteer opportunities.

With a successful summer growing season behind them, the Moraine farmers are turning their attention to feeding local communities into the chilly months of November and December. Farm Manager Gretta Anderson notes, “Most folks who appreciate locally-grown produce in the summer, dread returning to the grocery store in the fall. The quality, flavor and nutrition of local veggies just can’t be matched. Our long-term goal is to supply our members with local vegetable year-round.” Moraine Farm’s customers include the Beverly and Salem public schools, as well as members of their Community Supported Agriculture program.

Farm Shares, also known as Community Supported Agriculture or CSA shares, are available for November and December on-farm pick ups. Members purchase a “share” of the fall harvest now.  Then they come to the farm to pick up their share of the harvest and enjoy the historic Olmsted designed landscape. Fall Farm Shares are distributed every-other-Saturday afternoon beginning November 8. Friday afternoon pick ups are also available.

Sign on today to be a part of the Moraine Farm community! To purchase your Fall Farm Share and to learn more about the farm visit http://www.thetrustees.org/morainefarm or email Farm Manager Gretta Anderson, ganderson@ttor.org

The height of the ice is about 3,000 feet, 300-400 feet above water and the rest below water.

Chasing Ice won the award for Excellence in Cinematography at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and the Best Documentary from the International Press Association. It has won over 30 awards at festivals worldwide. Still playing in theaters worldwide.

Steve Immerman - Montserrat

Free to the public

Gloucester MA—Please join the Rocky Neck Art Colony and seARTS in welcoming Stephen Immerman, to the Cultural Center at 6 Wonson St, Wednesday, October 22 at 6:00 PM when the president of Monserrat College of Art talks about the importance of the creative economy to the North Shore.

Creative economy companies include for-profit businesses, such as video game makers, architectural firms, musicians, and promotional product companies, as well as non-profits, like museums and theater companies. Over 120,000 people work for creative economy firms in Massachusetts, with an estimated economic impact of $1 billion.

Montserrat College of Art was named a North Shore regional leader in February 2014 as part of a statewide Creative Economy Network begun by Massachusetts State Secretary of Housing and Economic Development, Greg Bialecki and Economy Industry director, Helena Fruscio. The network is meant to help creative companies find resources, such as space, talent, access to capital and tracking progress.

Rocky Neck Art Colony and seARTS are partners with Montserrat in this regional effort that also includes Salem State University’s Enterprise Center, the Salem Partnership, North of Boston Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, North Shore Chamber of Commerce, Beverly Main Streets and many others. Poll- With Giusepppes Closed What Kind Of Restaurant Would You Like To Fill That Space

I think the only void we have in the dining scene on Cape Ann is Indian Food. If you’ve been to Anmol in Beverly you know it’s really fantastic. If we could lure the owners of Anmol to open up in the space in the basement of the Blackburn Building that would be round out Gloucester’s dining menu.

What type of restaurant would you like to see there?

Edit: After thinking about this I’m not sure that we have a true Steak House here. That would be something that could add to our dining options. However with the crazy high price of good beef I’m not sure that we could support a real deal Steak House. We could have a place that serves steak obviously but to get real aged beef after you triple your food cost (how most restaurants come up with their pricing) I don’t think we have enough people having business meetings on company credit cards that don’t care that they are spending $40 for a steak and $100 bottle of wine. That’s big city stuff.

So I stand by my original choice of Indian food. Oh and for the people that have never tried Indian food, you’re really missing out. Anmol is a treasure for the people in Beverly.

What’s Happening at GHS

What’s Happening at GHS 10/8/14

Senior College Planning Night will be offered in the lecture hall at Gloucester High School on Thursday October 9, at 6:30pm. The Guidance Staff will present valuable information on the college selection and admission process. All Senior’s and their parents are requested to attend.

The Guidance Counselors have begun meeting with all seniors to ensure all of the planning and preparation of last year is progressing on target and make any changes or modifications to their college and career plans.

The PSAT’s will be offered at GHS on October 15, 2014 for all juniors and any sophomores who may be interested. This practice opportunity for the SAT’s is a wonderful time to begin thinking about the entire college application and acceptance process. To register for the PSAT, a payment of $22 (cash only) may be deposited with Mrs. Mondello before school, during lunch or after school.

Any parent interested in their own log on and account for our Naviance Family Connection on line website may call their child’s Guidance Counselor for log on access to assist your students in the College search and application process.

SAT’s will be offered at Gloucester High School this Saturday. Please ensure that your students are
well rested, have their admission ticket, a valid picture ID, at least two pencils, a calculator, a small snack, and are on time for this College Admissions testing experience.

“A new social media app has just come to our attention.  The app is called Street Chat.  Anyone can post photographs and messages, and anyone nearby can make comments, anonymously, and post on it. If people were to use this app with compassion, empathy and thoughtful reflection, this could be a pretty cool app that fosters positive creativity and cooperation, but just like other social media sites and apps, when used irresponsibly it becomes a social media problem. Unfortunately, it is being used to post hurtful and offensive messages. While I hope we will soon have it shut down from within, at present we have no way to shut it down from without.  However, we are actively partnering with the Gloucester police department and other authorities to expose, and hold accountable, users of this app who may have bullied or harassed another, or have otherwise broken the law.  Violators will be subject to both school and legal consequences.” Erik Anderson, Principal GHS
