I am a live music advocate and seek to share the news of bands playing at local venues in my home town. Being drawn to blues mostly but embrace all kinds of music. One does not have to go over the bridge to hear some real fine tunes, however there are some bands that draw you elsewhere. I hope this blog is a good use to you as it is to me.
Enjoy,
Joanne

Dave Sag’s post Christmas Blues Party 8-11@The Rhumb Line ~12.26.2013
Before I even start, let me please thank you all for very nice year of playing music and for allowing me to invade your brainstems weekly with potentially dangerous information. I wish you and yours the very nicest Holiday Season. and hope for many more!
Okay, now back to it: Our post-xMas healing process begins Thursday night with the arrival of Ms. Lydia Warren. This lady knocked the fillings out of my teeth at this summer’s Glou. Blues Festival. A wonderful songstress, vocalist and ornery guitarist, she’ll have you cavorting and gavotting in the aisles, whatever that means. She’ll be bringing along her insignificant other, too, in the form of Mr. Matt Kelley, a dynamic and road-worthy guitarist, to fill in the blanks. Squeeks and other percussion by that tonsorially-challenged Drumbo, Mr. Steevee Chaggaris. I will have gained 5 pounds.
http://www.lydiawarren.com/Lydia_Warren/Oh,_hi.html
And here are distant early warnings about upcoming events:
Jan.2 Rik and Alec Razdan with the A-minus orchestra, includes me. Come celebrate the beginning of suicide season!
Jan.9 Andrew Clark. The tootin’ Torquemada of the tenor is out to destroy your will! Billy Loosigian rocks out!
Jan.16 Chris “Stovall” Brown and his tooth-biting glitar!
Jan.23 The Good Old Salty Jazz Band. We get encores at the Senior center all the time. Come see what you’ve been missing whilst you doze in your Barcalounger.
Jan.30 Johnny Carwash aka Bob Davis steps up to your upper plate and knocks your teeth out. Pyrotechnics (again) by Billy Loosigian, who was forced to learn a jazz chord for this date. Instrumental and surf madness ensues.

Gordon Sax joins The Thursday night blues party tonight @ The Rhumb Line 8-11 ~ 12.19.2013

Dave says,
Well, this is it. The high point of my year. My therapist, me, warns me not to believe everything I think. I’m going with that one. And you should too. So, come out this Thursday to witness the Star in the East who’s gonna fall out of the sky and land on his ass just for you. Not Fred, I’m talking about that formidable pied piper Mr. Gordon “Sax” Beadle. Frontman, and master of the tenor honk-a-phonium, this guy is the drill sergeant of the blues. He’ll have you quaking and reaching for the brass ring all night long. Sax Gordon is my personal favorite blasting cap. Fire in the hole!!
But wait! There’s more. Knot only is Gordie on the bill, but also my favorite drumbler and comedy partner, Mr. Edd Scheer. Known for his incredible understanding of my random mutterings, Edd’s sure to raise your blood pressure by 30 PSI. We both suffer from riposte traumatic stress disorder, leaving our incredible Qatarist, Mr. Mike DiBari, lurching in the wake of the verbal tsunami. It’ll be the best night of the year! You’ll quake, you’ll shake, you’ll need some kind of crutch. Bring Diaperine®.

The are still some seats left for this show! Guest Presentation Friday, December 13, 8 PM Presented by M.E. Productions ROCKPORT BLUES SUMMIT —LUTHER “GUITAR JUNIOR” JOHNSON, SUGAR RAY NORCIA, & “MONSTER” MIKE WELCH
ROCKPORT BLUES SUMMIT
Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson has emerged as the bona fide leader of the West Side guitar style with his unique blend of blues, soul and funk. His blazing guitar riffs and plaintive vocals leave no doubt that Johnson is a blues master at the top of his game. He served an apprenticeship with Muddy Waters (one of the last direct links!) and Magic Sam before developing his own signature style. “Guitar Junior” earned his moniker by performing blistering blends of single string playing on the electric guitar. Magic Sam immediately signed him upon hearing the teenage “Little Junior” sing Sam Cooke’s “Somebody Have Mercy” at a club on Chicago’s West Side in the early ’60s.
Singer and harp man Sugar Ray Norcia’s career kicked into high gear in 1979 when he formed the original Sugar Ray & the Bluetones with guitar giant Ronnie Earl, and it has stayed there ever since. They backed Big Walter Horton, Big Joe Turner, Jimmie Rogers, Otis Rush, JB Hutto & countless others in the early ’80s all over the North East. In 1991 Norcia hooked up with Roomful of Blues and toured the world with the 11 piece band, appearing on their Grammy-nominated Turn It On, Turn It Up!
Mike Welch has been on the international blues scene for 15 years, and he’s only about 30!! Dubbed “Monster Mike” by Dan Ackroyd at the opening of the first House of Blues club some 15 years ago, Mike has seen his career move through three distinct phases already, from young teen phenom in the mid 1990s, to in-demand session guitarist, to a deep, soulful artist whose early promise has been fully realized working with Sugar Ray and solo projects.
Luther is at the top of his game and the pinnacle of his legendary career. Sugar Ray is nothing short of an icon in the New England blues scene, and “Monster Mike” is blazing his own distinct path. It’s the Blues baby, don’t miss it!

Dave Sag’s Blues Party tonight with Dennis Brennan, Matt Stubbs and Chris Rivelli and dear Ol’ Dave @ The Rhumb Line tonight 8-11 12.12.2013
Dave says,
Let’s welcome the Boston Brain Trust back to Gloucester in the form of the incandescent Dennis Brennan with his cohorts Matt Stubbs and Chris Rivelli. Another close shave with three chords and the truth. Every time these guys show up, I feel like I’ve been reborn into a higher form of reptile! Someday, I won’t need the sun to make my aorta pop with rhythm. But for now,I’ll get out of the house before it’s too late. Put on your Keds and come out swinging.
Dennis, of the oleaginous windpipes and great collection of hats, is truly a master of the blues. Not only that, but of many other styles, too. Why am I telling you this?? You should already know! His gunzel Matt Stubbs has travelled the world many times around backing up many famous cats. A sizzling guitarist, watch his fingers: now you see it, now you don’t. And Chris? Well, he’s the de facto Rheumful o’ Blooz agitprop, reedy to scramble your eggs with his whisking style.
Truly one of my favorite agglomerations, I can’t wait to see how it ends! Remember: Winter hours now 8 to 11

- There won’t be any seating.
- It will be a “cash only” auction, meaning that each item will be paid for in cash, immediately after we sell it. (So bring plenty of change!)
- After Cape Ann Auction is finished selling it’s auction lots, it will open up the floor to flea market vendors who want to sell some of their items at auction.

A whole lotta shakin goin on…Thursday Night Blues Party with Dave Sag’s To host Lisa Marie and Silvertone Steve ~ Tonight 8-11 @ The Rhumb Line
Man, I had a great Thanksgiving. I put on 2 pounds, lost my cell phone, and held a detailed argument with myself over adherence to the itmosphere. I found my phone and lost my mind and the argument. Now I’m ready for wellness with the addition of Ms. Lisa Marie to the show tonight. And may I say, I can’t wait! The Divine Miss LM is one of the most beloved and heuristically hot smoking pals i’ve got. I’m talking lineups. She tends to bring out the best in her fans and the worst in my digestion, which is fine with me. Nothing three martinis can’t cure.
She’ll and her compadres will be dropped off by a series of drones supplied by Jeff Beezlebub, late of Amazon. Com. These include a version of Mr. Silvertone Steve, guitarist non pareil, and Mr. Dana Bonardi, goatskin whisker, on bongos. These specimens have just been released from MGH after a thorough investigation into their unusual growth of a third cojóne.I’Il be in the corner, wearing a full-face respirator, and looking like Vincent Price. Eat lots of garlic.
And, again, for those of you into Jello® and Depends®, I’ll be at the Rose Baker Senior Center next Two Mondays from 1 to 3, with the Good Old salty Jazz Band.you gotta see this. Forget Woodstock; this is more appropriate.
