I am a live music advocate and seek to share the news of bands playing at local venues in my home town. Being drawn to blues mostly but embrace all kinds of music. One does not have to go over the bridge to hear some real fine tunes, however there are some bands that draw you elsewhere. I hope this blog is a good use to you as it is to me.
Enjoy,
Joanne
Community Sing-a-Long in Celebration of the Life, Spirit and Music of Pete Seeger

Pete Seeger, one of America’s best-loved folksingers, an untiring activist, environmentalist, and an inspiration to many, passed away on January 27th, 2014.
Folk Life Studio and members of the Cape Ann folk-singing community invite all to an open community sing-a-long to celebrate the life, spirit and music of Pete Seeger.
Come as you are! Bring a song or a story, a snack or non-alcoholic beverage to share if you wish.
Acoustic musical instruments are welcome, too! This will be a participatory evening, as what could be a more appropriate way to remember and honor Pete?
We’ll start at 7 to be more accessible to families with young children. Song sheets will be available. Spread the word! Bring your friends! Bring your family! There is no charge for admission.

This week Johnny Carwash joins The Dave Sag’s Thursday Night Blues Party! 8 – 11pm 1.30.2014
Dave says,
First, let me thank you all for allowing me to present the good Old Salty Jazz Band last week.It was a huge success. People were weeping in the aisles. Took me two days to recover. I think i’ll do it again this summer.
Now, back to reality. This week is yet another shootout at the ofay corral as we feature two ghastly titans of instrumental guitar, Mr. Bobby Davis, old Johnny Carwash himself,
and Mr. Billy Loosigian. Last time Bobby was here, the cleanup crew were wailing and gnashing their dentures for a week. Tore the place apart. Billy has been practicing his three chords necessary for the attainment of bliss for some time now and will prove to be the perfect shiny mirror to Bob’s succinct style. Jeff Casper, the friendly drumbler, will be on hand to answer any questions. I won’t have any answers. This is going to be big fun.
Don’t forget winter hours: 8 to 11. You can get 10 to life if you’re not careful.

Discovery Auction (Walk-a-Round Style) Today January 20th – Monday night – 6pm (Inspection 3-6) 1 Lexington Ave. Magnolia Village in Gloucester, MA 01930
Discovery Auction
Extreme Snow Date Tues. Jan. 21st
Those of you who’ve attended our most recent events, know that well, we haven’t really had any RECENT events, because we’ve been very busy stocking up the old warehouse and this Discovery Auction is going to be jam packed with treasures!
What exactly IS a Discovery Auction?
A discovery auction is probably the most exciting and fun of all types of auctions to attend! No one really knows what’s going to be there. OK, so we have an idea, but up until the day of the sale, even we don’t know everything that the auction will include. That’s because we’re going to pack it with the best, most unusual, profitable loot we can find, right up until the day of the sale!
What! No listing? No pictures?!
Nope. We may post a few on our Facebook Page or on www.capeannauction.com
You don’t really have any stuff yet do you? That’s why there are no pictures.
Wanna bet? 🙂 Seriously, we are packed for this sale. But posting tons of pics and posting a detailed listing is time consuming, time better spent on getting the sale ready!
What will the cat drag in…
While we won’t give you specifics, we can tell you that there will be lots of antiques, glass & china, ephemera, furniture, box-lots & surprises!
Food?
A light snack bar & coffee by Glosta Joes!
Terms:
Cash, checks & credit cards accepted w/ID
Helpful tips:
Bring boxes & packing, get there early enough to inspect, and be prepared to be on your feet for a while. This is a walk-a-round auction with no seating. (Be wary of standing too close to friends who may want to bid on the same things you do!)
Buyer’s Premium?
N-O-P-E!
What do you mean by Extreme Snow date?
We will have the auction unless there are severe, unsafe driving conditions. Check our website or our Facebook page if you have questions about cancellation

Chris Stovall Brown to play the Blues Party tonight @ The Rhumb Line 8-11
Thank god Chris “Stovall” Brown is coming in this Thursday nite: it’s been a while since I had to deflect a whole boatload of invective, innuendo and out the other. Chris, besides being a fabulous guitarist ,uvula-waggler, and eidetic librarian of all things recordable, is simply a joy to work with. Plus, he makes me laugh. You may wet your pants watching this guy sing whilst playing his axe with his dentures. I’m always amazed. Eardrum duties by our fallow-headed buddy, Mr. Steevee Chaggaris. I’m on base. We’re keeping this a trio so that we can flood the stage next week with the likes of the Good Old Salty Jazz Band. Sex after menopause? I can’t remember….
