WHAT & WHY: With everything Holidays in mind, with a spotlight on the moments where special family recipes and entertaining are front and center, the timely occasion to welcome back, wine, food specialist and chef Anthony Sciarappa who oversee the Connoisseur Portfolio of select, fine wines, and the opportunity to sip, experience and learn about wines expressly selected for holiday fare …aperitifs to snacks (Champagne & popcorn), hors ‘d to small plates to dinner parties.  The chance to equip your holiday events with added enjoyment.       

WHO: For this tasting guest host, wine and food specialist and chef Anthony Sciarappa together with Savour’s Kathleen Morgan, have selected wines of South Africa, Champagne, the Piedmont and San Luis Obispo, USA that pair well to holiday culinary season…

Saturday’s December Holiday Pourings include:
Drappier Cote d’Or, Brut, Champagne, Alc. 12%, Varietal: Pinot Noir / Pinot Nero, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Tasting: full-bodied and long, with a lovely texture from red wine tannins and oak-matured portion. An enticing blend of red cherry, nectarine and Asian pear fruit, round in body, pleasantly focused by its acidity and small bubbles. Pairs Well: shellfish, caviar, rich fish (salmon, tuna), and yes…popcorn. Savour cheese: Delice-de-Bourgogne, Fr. – full btl. $52.99, half btl., – $29.99,      

Hamilton-Russell, Estate Hemel-En-A-Aarde Valley, So.Africa, 2020, Alc. 13%, Varietal: Chardonnay, Tasting: Classical full-bodied, nose is delicate yellow fruit, pear, white stone fruit.

Hamilton-Russell “Ashbourne”, Swartland, So. Africa, 2019, Varietal: Pinotage / Cinsault, Alc. 14%, Tasting: surprisingly delicate, very pinot noir like; on the palette earthy,  medium bodied, with berries, spices, minerals and smoke, bright acidity to a dry finish.    
Pairs well: lamb chops & creamy spinach , game (elk, venison), grilled Cornish game hens, Savour cheese: Mousse Truffee, US, – $17.99

Tintero Rosso, Azienda Agricola Tintero Elvio, Mango, Piedmonte, It, Kermit Lynch, 2019  Alc. 12.5%, Varietal: Nebbiolo, Cabernet Franc, Barbera, Dolcetto, Tasting: Well-balanced medium body, slightly jammy with cassis, black cheery, a touch of black plum, with leather, oak and vanilla, a long finish and round tannins. Pairs well: juicy ribeye, pasta, grilled lamb chops, game-venison, Savour cheese: Swiss Gruyere, – $14.99

Iron and Sand, Paso Robles, Central Coast, San  Luis Obispo, CA, 2019, Alc. 14%, Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon, Tasting: Oak and tannins harmonious and balanced, black fruit-vanilla -clove-spices on the nose, full body, fruit forward, blackberry & red currant at the core, tannin spice to a vanilla finish. Pairs well:  roasted leg of lamb to burgers, game / venison. Savour cheese: Pitchfork Cheddar, UK, – $25.99
