“…In 1954, I met my husband Lars-Erik Wiberg outside my father’s Rockport studio while he was working on a car. Yes, in those days one could park there. We married in 1957 and lived at the Fish House, 27 Bearskin Neck, while I transferred to UMass Art…” – excerpt Betty Allenbrook Wiberg
The front page Cape Ann Beacon story, Rockport is show’s final stop: Betty Allenbrook Wiberg is featured artist for Cape Ann Reads picture book exhibit, published on February 14, 2020, includes a great note by Wiberg. You can read the complete piece on the Beacon’s website here https://gloucester.wickedlocal.com/news/20200214/rockport-to-host-once-upon-contest . The exhibit is on display at Rockport Public Library through Feburary 29, 2020. There is a reception February 29 starting at 11am. Wiberg installed a concurrent temporary installation in the children’s room and display case in the hall, across from the wonderful Recchia Mother Goose sculpture.
A few of us went to the pool at the Mile Marker after a hockey game on Saturday night. I was surprised to find the bar area inside the Aqua Room closed and renovations under way. Dinner and cocktails are still served at the tables surrounding the pool…..so, have no fear. I took a walk out to the River View dining room to see what was going on. The bar that was at the far end is now also closed and a new bar has been built closer to the entrance. They did a really nice job and the new bar looks tremendous. It will be nice to have the bar closer to the kitchen so food can be passed through to the guests who are dining at the bar. Makes sense to me.

Over this Presidents Day weekend, First Ipswich Bank changed over to Brookline Bank. I expect customers were prepared but the new signage in the Walgreens plaza on Rogers Street caught my eye.

Struggling today to figure out whether my internet and computer shutting on and off all day are a computer or power problem. I met a ‘laughing’ fox at dawn this morning and hopefully can post those photos tomorrow. In the meantime, I grabbed this Instagram link of Charlotte jumping for joy over her new hat 🙂

The prolific artist Sam Nigro turns oars and rudders everyday into beautiful pieces of art. Many businesses and homes over the years have been recipients of oars to hang and display.
He took a picture of the Sylvina W. Beal leaving Gloucester for rehabilitation in Essex and turned it into this beautiful piece of art painted on an antique rudder.

The Schooner Sylvina W. Beal is the oldest existing auxiliary knockabout fishing Schooner in North America. She was built in 1911 in the Adams Yard in Boothbay, Maine. She currently sits in the creek in Essex as Harold Burnham prepares the drawing and wood required for her rehabilitation. Donate to the rehabilitation of Sylvina W Beal, LLC, P.O. Box 541, Essex, Ma. 01929.
If you would like a Sam Nigro Oar visit his Facebook page Sam Nigro and message him. You won’t be disappointed.

It was a very cold but pretty day at the beach yesterday.

If anyone can duplicate this needlepoint for me there’s $35 in it for you.

On Friday it was so cold the sunset was different with a ring around the sun.

We had the pleasure of visiting Oliver’s Harbor for our Valentine’s Day dinner. So happy to see them back in the game! We did not experience normal new-opening difficulties. My steak was awesome and GMG Jimmy had sushi he enjoyed. Great evening. Thank you Hannah and Scott. We are looking forward to a return visit.
