My Musical Guest: DAN KING!

Here in the wake of the NFL’s biggest day, I feel it noteworthy to mention our good friend, Dan King (pictured here with his former (and much, much older) coach, has in fact been in a Super Bowl of his own – that as a member of Gloucester High’s famous and historic Fightin’ Fishermen. The place was Foxboro’s then Sullivan Stadium. The year was, I believe, 1987. But, you can ask him for details yourself when you get to the Rhumb Line this Wednesday at 7pm. And, guess what? You can also have a great, great time listening to him do his cool, cool thang. Rah-rah! Go Fishermen! ~ Fly
Dinner with great music!

Eric and Jim were flying their kites at Salisbury State Reservation on a perfect morning this week. These big ones are trilobites, which seems perfect. You couldn’t help but smile!

No good news to report. Early this morning there was some activity with a GFD rescue boat searching at Niles Pond but nothing was found.
For the remainder of the day, the area around Niles and Brace Cove was eerily quiet. Gloucester detectives are continuing to follow up on any leads. Residents are checking sheds and outbuildings and neighbors are continuing to walk the paths around the Point in hopes of some sign of Abbie. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Abbie’s family.
Abbie’s disappearance seemed tragically similar to that of Theresa Coen, who went missing from Penzance Road, Rockport, in March of 2018. However, that they both disappeared after heading out for a walk ends the similarity. Theresa’s death was determined to be a suicide.

As I was walking Shore Road the sun set as always never disappoints. Also love this couple of the beach waiting for the sun to set.

Coach Steeves is looking to fund raise for a professional outdoor portable batting cage used to cover home plate during batting practice. Secondly, new pitching machine technology today comes with 3 wheel technology that allows for real baseballs to be used with game like pitching speeds and pitches of multiple types. With that said these two items would cost $10,000 total.

Yesterday afternoon several of us made our way to Boston for lunch in Faneuil Hall and then over to the TD Bank Garden for the Beanpot. Two games back-to-back on a Monday night with 30 kids is kind of a lot, but we hung in until mid second period of the second game. With a double overtime win in the BU vs BC game, I am sad that we didn’t stay until the bitter end, but it was a fantastic evening for us all nonetheless. And, may I add, watching the college and alumni fans from Harvard, Northeaster, BU, and BC was almost as entertaining as the on ice action.
The semifinal round of the 2020 Beanpot, which includes Boston College, Boston University, Harvard and Northeastern — the reigning back-to-back champions — concluded with No. 12 Northeastern (15-7-2) and Boston University (10-8-7) earning both spots in the championship game. No. 17 Harvard (10-7-4) and No. 4 Boston College (10-7-1), the losers of the two semifinal games, respectively, will play each other in the consolation game prior to the championship game on Monday, Feb. 10 at TD Garden in Boston.
Northeastern opened the semifinal round with a 3-1 win over Harvard, 40 years to the day after securing the program’s first Beanpot title in 1980. In order for the Huskies to win their third-straight Beanpot title and seventh overall, they will have to outperform Boston University, which rallied from a three-goal deficit to defeat Boston College 5-4 in double overtime.
